Some years ago 8 of us went to 2941 Restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a horrific experience. The portions were minuscule and the prices gargantuan. We vowed never to return, and for some 10 years we did not. Then, last week, I had the opportunity of using an OpenTable reward coupon and I decided to try 2941 Restaurant again, partly because we heard that ownership had changed since we were there last. As to appearance, they did away with the magnificent sculpture that had adorned the entry, removed part of the outdoor fish pond and repainted. Still, the restaurant ambiance was lovely, and despite a lot of people not noisy. That's probably because there were no babies and the volume of the room is so large is does not reflect noise efficiently. We had gazpacho, halibut and baked Alaska (and wine). All really good, and I am a harsh critic when it comes to restaurants. It was second only to Chez Auberge Francoise in this area, in my opinion. Even the bread was quite good, and the service was excellent. There are times when you hit a restaurant on an off night. Well, this was an on night! The only downside is that what I just described came to $180 (which my coupon helped defer). That's decidedly on the steep side, but as a special occasion restaurant it warrants consideration. On the other hand, apparently a lot of people are doing all right because the restaurant Friday night was quite crowded.
Delicious and flavorful food. Sitting near the bar was ok. Bar was not crowded and service seemed slow at times. The complimentary champagne for our anniversary was a very nice touch!
The service was non-existent for the first 30 minutes while all other tables were being served. After complaining to the manager three times at last it got to the level it should have been at when we sat down.
I recommend with the qualification that for some reason they dont get it-- on service and that waiting 30 minutes for your first drink is totally unacceptable.
Absolutely fabulous! I try to get away from the downtown DC grind, traffic, parking headaches, and rampant crime by exploring Northern Virginia options. My friend was in town from Germany and I wanted to take her to dinner for her birthday. I'd been to 2941 before and I knew she'd love it.
We were even more excited when we saw that 2941 hired Nikki, our favorite mixologist who formerly worked at Majestic. She made subtle tweaks to the cocktails (my favorite, the "Bee's Knees" got a spicy addition to the formula) and she knew what to make us to match our food selection.
As for the food, I was hugging myself and making yummy sounds the entire time.
The servers are top shelf, and I would easily rate the restaurant as the top in the National Capital Region.
Don't wait. Reserve a table now!
The staff provided a wonderful dining experience for my wife and I.
Exquisite tasting menu. Our server Veronica was terrific and made the evening exceptional. The sommelier, Keith, was extremely knowledgeable and fun.
Would recommend the tasting menu with pairings, 10/10.
Tasting menu was a step above prior visits. We were well taken care of by Julio and Keith.
Wonderful as usual
Love dinners at 2941! The food is amazing and Jean Marc (sp?) and Veronique are superb!
A wonderful establishment for celebrating special occasions. Service was superb. Calamari is always done so well. Branzino was delicious. 14 oz Creekstone Ribeye was very good but not sure it warranted the hefty price tag. Special touches--personalized menu and dessert for our anniversary celebration--always make us want to come back again.
Wonderful experience and I will definitely come back the next time I am in the area!
The food this evening was lack luster. I'm surprised, as the menu and descriptions sounded so flavorful. Great service, nice setting. I had not been there before, but my husband has. We were somewhat underwhelmed with the flavors/meal.
2941 is a mere 4-minute drive (20-minute) walk from our home and after living here nearly 3 years, we are just now discovering it. One of the best dining experiences we've had in the entire DC metro area. We chose the chef's tasting menu (4 courses for me, 8 for husband). Not one single course was less than fabulous. The staff was exceptional as well. JeanMarc attended us with knowledge, ideas, and absolute professionalism. Keith filled our evening with his passion for pairing. The ambiance is also noteworthy: a gorgeous restaurant in a gorgeous setting with a small collection of fine art. We simply cannot believe we did not know about this before now. Anxiously look forward to our next visit.
It was wonderful in every way!! The setting was gorgeous, the service outstanding, the food exceptional. The special touches like the personalized menu header made my daughter feel extra special on her birthday.
We drove an hour to get her and it was great. People who work there are great and it would be a great place for the gathering I was planning except it is too far away for most of us who live in Maryland. Michelle, who organizes these things, was lovely. We will be back.
Have been a customer for 18 years. Always a delight.
Been here a few times. Food is always good but this time the lobster and fettuccini was a bit under seasoned. Price is a bit high for lunch for three people, $110 including tips. Otherwise, service and ambiance is great.
Great, as always. It was a birthday celebration, and a very nice
place to have it. Great food, waiter, and ambience.
Had a business lunch here this week and I love this place. Gorgeous setting, excellent service and the food was amazing. This was my first time here and I will be coming more often.
Food was awesome.
Good seats, we had a better view of the water than last year.
Same waiter as before and he did a great job.
Bathroom was clean and had paper towels.
The dessert was great.
My wife was happy so I am happy.
Nice as always.
Wow! Been waiting 25 years to get here, and we were totally wowed. Excellent service, lots of menu options, gorgeous presentation. It is really hard to get duck right, and it was on the mark. Filet Mignon melted in my mouth. 3 courses each, with 3 wine pairings, came in just under $200 which we thought was perfect.
I have had many pleasant dining experiences at 2941 and last evening had a very disappointing experience.
I dined with 2 other women and noticed right off that we were not given a wine list with the menus. We sat for quite a long time waiting for either waiter or sommelier to greet us and also to bring a wine list. We finally had to summons a busperson to bring us one. The bottled wine prices were very high for the level of service. In general the service was inattentive (i.e. no refilling of water glasses, difficult to get our server's attention) during our 2 hour visit.. a real change from what I have normally experienced there.
Always a pleasure to lunch at this delightful restaurant!
Really nice dinner, outstanding service. We enjoyed the chef's tasting menu with wine. The one negative would be the wine pours, they were short.
I had 5 guests with me on the last day of the restaurant's participation in Alexandria's Restaurant Week, and our experience was really good overall. All my guests were satisfied with their food, but were most impressed by the quality of the service and the ambiance. Keith professionally assisted in the wine selection. Perhaps once I try items in the regular menu I will be able to fully assess the food quality. For now, the food only ranks somewhere between 3-4 (out of 5).
The waiter was in rush.....we had eating in this restrurant many times. However other helper was very nice
The most disappointment is the strawberry short cake. The cake was hard like stale cookie..usually they have very nice desserts .
This is one of our favorite restaurants but this visit was not as good. Caveat, this was restaurant week and we ordered the fixed priced meal with three courses; appetizers, entree and dessert. The food was excellent, but our cocktails arrived after we were half through our appetizer. I had planned on having a glass of wine with my entree but because of its late arrival, I still had half my cocktail. I did not order the wine. When dessert came, the waiter asked if we would like coffee or anything but did not provide a menu. All, evening we felt rushed and if we were being pushed out. I would still go back but this was not one of the best experiences we have had there.
Perfect place to celebrate special occasions. Delicious food, professional staff, and lovely ambiance.
For times when you want to feel special and enjoy first-rate food, 2941 is the place to go. Service is impeccable, food is exceptional, and the ambiance makes it worth the drive!
It's 2941 - for us always an outstanding visit from service to food to atmosphere.
2941 extended its restaurant week menu, so we came back to enjoy an inexpensive, yet exceptional, 3-course meal. The appetizers were varied, seasonal selections, and truly remarkable. Their pastry chef deserves high praise for extraordinary desserts that perfectly finish a spectacular meal.
I was celebrating my friend's BD and we both enjoyed our appetizer, dinner and Peach Melba. The best thing was that the Chef made a special BD Dessert that was out of this world. I have had lunch and dinner at 2941 numerous times and have always been extremely happy about everything.
Another excellent dinner. I have not been disappointed yet. Looking forward to the next meal.
We have been dining there foe years and the quality has always been
The food is usually outstanding when there are special "themed" dinners. For a Restaurant Week "prix fixe" lunch, the food was Excellent; so we went twice! Love this restaurant for its steadiness and beautiful setting. Service is very good.
We came during restaurant week. The special menu was equal to, or better than, he usual one. The wine list was thoroughly explained by the sommelier, and the choices were many and varied. The beef, the ribs, and the vegetarian pasta were all excellent . The dining room was spacious, the view was pleasant, and the experience was memorable. We didn’t share our desserts, we liked them too much.
Went for restaurant week with a friend: The appetizers and desserts were stellar. The main courses were not as good. I had the chicken which was dry and my friend had the salmon which was also dry (and paired oddly with a red wine mussel sauce). The service was extremely efficient, but none of the waitstaff or support staff looked happy to be there. The only person who smiled at us was the hostess. This definitely impacted the experience. It wasn't a bad experience, but we've been there a few times and this was the first time I have not been extremely impressed with the food and atmosphere.
This is one of my favorite places and make certain I visit during restaurant week. A superb selection that seldom disappoints. Service was fine but a bit sluggish. Sommelier very good.
Two things I wish had been better: my piece of short ribs was very fatty and small and they charged an extra $8 for it. This had not happened before and there was no justification.
Fabulous as always! Restaurant week prices a nice bonus!
