29 States The Indian Kitchen
This is not a review I wanted to write. The food was very very good. When it came and when it was correct.
We didn't have our food order taken for over 40 mins after arriving despite there being a pair of waitresses not seening to do a lot. The manager was the only one doing ANYTHING. he took arders (eventually) ran the food, gave bills and took payment.
One of our starters was wrong. It did get replaced. The mains were there on time and were good. The service was so slow and erratic.
Also the decor felt very basic and the toilets were frightful. No loo paper and what looked like a doggy poo bag (full) hanging from the toilet roll holder. That was still there after the loo rolls had been replaced.
Not a great experience and will not be recommended.
The staffs were great and friendly and helpful also the food was great and great value for money the place was very friendly and great surrounding to relax and enjoy yourself
We had an early evening booking, so there were only a few tables occupied.
Nice atmosphere and attentive service.
The food was beautifully flavoured and well presented.
Visited for our anniversary because the other half ‘desperately’ wanted a decent curry - and didn’t disappoint, we ordered whatever we wanted, didn’t skimp on anything and was still under budget having thoroughly enjoyed our meal ! Would definitely recommend
Incredible food, service a little slow, but worth the wait. Very good value for money.
Excellent food and service, attentive to requests. Portion sizes really good too. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a good curry in York that’s isn’t ‘run of the mill’.
Visited the estates on various occasions, always good food. Will revisit in the future.
The food was excellent. Service was good waited a while to pay the bill as only one server on the floor but once we requested the bill it was sorted out quickly
Have been before and the food and ambience was very disappointing. Probably better had we gone earlier ( we booked for 10pm) and just got the feeling that they wanted rid! My partner order a curry with mince meat as the main and it tasted like shepherds pie without the mash. Have been many times before and the chef usually comes and has a chat at the table but we were told he was too busy counting the money. Very disappointed with visit which was a real shame as I sold it so high to my partner who hadn’t been before.
Great place excellent food and service was priceless made us feel very welcome don’t miss out or you will
Far too noisy from one all male party. Unable to hear people across the table. Waiters reluctant to ask them to quieten down.
Food OK but not usual standard
Shame as we really like this restaurant but this experience has put us off
Service was slow at best and inattentive as the meal progressed, the food although tasteful on the night had an over night affect on both of us and the over use of salt became apparent ! We dined here on the back of good reviews but sadly the experience came nowhere near .
Poor service, small portions and not much atmosphere. Quite expensive for 3 people even with discount.
Food was absolutely superb waiter and chef very pleasant and professional. Will definitely be returning.
Amazing food. Extremely busy Saturday night but still fab service. Value for money, would def recommend
Good authentic food, decent pricing, pleasant service.
Unfortunately , the food looked and tasted as if it was a " ready meal " ...Naan bread ; undercooked , and microwaved rice !
We were rushed through our meal at every course , and even asked to move to another table at the end of the meal , before we had finished our drinks !
I'm sorry to say this , but the restaurant hype did not deliver 😟.
29 States offers a more authentic Indian Dining Exoerience than can be found in most Indian Restaurants. Dishes are individually prepared from a relatively small menu.
On each occasion we have been, the Chef has made a personal tour of the tables, a sign that he enjoys his work.
The ambient temperature of the Restaurant on this last visit was on the cool side.
I have a severe nut allergy and the staff were incredibly helpful, even sending out the chef to talk me through the menu and make his recommendations as to what was best to eat for my palette. He also popped out after the meal to check that everything was ok. Very attentive staff , in fact I've never had so much interest taken, usually people, just say that they cannot be certain as the ingredients states that it "may contain nuts" so you are never completely certain- but these guys were awesome!
We were a small group who hadn't seen each other for ten years, the waiter was very efficient to start with and then, seeing we were more than happy, he left us to our own devices- which was just what was needed. Food was very tasty and well priced - thanks for a great evening!
This was not our first visit. The food is usually very good but the service slow. However on this occasion, the restaurant was very busy with obviously not enough staff to cope. We left without eating as after more than 15 minutes had passed there was no sign of our order being taken.
Excellent food at good prices with knowledgeable recommendations by the staff.
First visit last Saturday - not particularly busy, so service was good. Food was lovely and the menu is a little bit different to your normal Indian. Will certainly return.
I booked a table for 8 as we were on a long weekend from Montrose in Scotland. I had been the last time I was in York and was really impressed with the choice available. One of our party is a vegetarian and the options available were superb for him. At the end of our meal the chef came to the table with complimentary saffron and pistachio ice creams. I cannot praise the restaurant enough.
Not enough staff
Service was great - very friendly and accommodating. Food was incredible - dishes were very flavoursome, would definitely recommend!
If asked for a view of Clifford’s tower and this request was granted as we had a great view- and fireworks later to celebrate the Viking festival! The food was amazing- authentic Indian rather than Pakistani so we tried some new dishes. Fabulous Goan king prawn curry and a lamb shank in rum. Yum! Good service too. The interior was a little tired and not as dressy as I’d imagined from the photos, but all in all a great night.
We had the restaurant recommended and it certainly lived up to the recommed. Food very good and good value for money.
Brilliant meal, service, never been before the food was excellent and a diffferent menu than normal Indian restaurants
Would recommend to friends and family and will be back again
Great Indian food , well presented. Good service ,central location.
Probably the best Indian food in the country, consistently great food
Food was ok. Nothing special. I thought a bit too sweet. Nice enough standard Indian restaurant though.
A brilliant restaurant. Amazing food and excellent views of Clifford’s Tower.
The staff were very accommodating and helped us with the menu.
We will definetly go again.
Really tasty curry, all dishes ordered were delicious.
Good value for money.
Fantastic view of Clifford's Tower.
Easy to book online.
I have been several times before and find the staff welcoming and helpful if you're unsure what to order. My friend was visiting for the first time and was very impressed.
The menu is a little different from others which is refreshing and the portions are just right.
Nice atmosphere, never rushed.
Retirement celebration. Excellent service, food lovely and staff attentive and helpful.
Our second visit to 29 States in York. Great view to Clifford's Tower across the road. Excellent food. Good service and very reasonable prices. It race day in York so it was busy and some tables were a bit rowdy.
Great food and friendly atmosphere -will definitely visit again when next in York
