Open Table had confirmed my reservation but when I arrived in Nantucket I learned that the restaurant had gone out of business!
It was the Christmas Stroll weekend and all the better restaurants were booked solid but my wife was able to convince one of them to accommodate us. Unfortunately we had order from an overly expensive fixed price menu ($150 pp).
It is mind boggling to think that, after dropping the ball, Open Table has now requested feedback on how our evening turned out!
Can’t rate it! It was closed when we went and WE NEVER GOT A CANCELLATION NOTE. On the contrary, we received two reminders the day before and the restaurant was closed. Awful!
Don't know how to write this review since I made a reservation on Open Table and when we got to the restaurant it was closed and boarded up for the season -- someone at either Open Table or the restaurant made a very big mistake!!!
Restaurant was closed, clearly they forgot to shut off their reservation system.
Why is this restaurant still listed on Open Table when it is closed for the season??
There’s no review because The restaurant was closed!! We had no warning whatsoever.
I made the reservation on Open table. Two days before, I received a text from 29 Fair asking me to confirm. I confirmed and received a reply that my reservation was confirmed. We arrived at 29 Fair only to find that it was dark. I called the number and got an answering machine stating that they had closed. This was Stroll weekend so there was no chance of getting in anywhere else. They ruined our night.
Took and confirmed reservation through open table and they were closed for the season. Frustrating
Got to the restaurant at to reserved time and it is closed for the winter. Open Table better get their act together, making reservations for closed restaurants indeed!
Horrible experience! We booked a week ago, got confirmation the day before, got to the restaurant and it was closed for the season! How could a restaurant be so rude to allow reservations to be made and then not notify guests?! And then we had a tough time finding availability at another restaurant at the last minute! We won't be recommending this place for sure!
It was closed - thankfully I had concierge check because Opentable gave me a reservation
My wife has bolognese in a lot of restaurants and this place makes her favorite. The menu is not big,but
Love 29 Fair! We enjoyed several delicious dinners this summer and highly recommend this restaurant for a place that retains the true feeling of Nantucket. The menu is terrific, seasonal and doesn't try too hard to be unusual. Food presentation is lovely and staff couldn't be nicer or welcoming. You won't be disappointed.
Loved the ambiance in this cozy, intimate restaurant. The setting puts you back in time. The food was delicious. Only concern....we were a bit rushed. Food came out too fast. May have been our server not knowing how to pace the meal. Too bad. I would have wished to linger a bit longer to saver the setting and food.
Excellent wait staff and decore. A bit pricy but would definitely go again.
Our team able of seven enjoy d our expero nice at the historic 29 Fair. Aft r initial confusion over our table, the service was speedy and the food was delicious. The menu isn't large but had intr sting options for everyone. We thought the wine list was a little too limited but that was the only complaint in a group of seasoned diners. I'd definitely return!
The Food was fantastic and the ambiance was wonderful! Will be back!
What happens when someone comes in and takes your reservation? Well, here, they say you don't have one until you point it out, (even though you received a confirmation phone call earlier in the day.) Then they say someone else came in, said it was theirs, and reduced the number of people. Hmmmmm. Luckily, they were able to get me in. The rest of the experience was ok. Our server wasn't particularly attentive or friendly. The salmon was good. Not excited about the wines available by the glass.
Scallop special sounded great but arrived with two scallops. Melon was crunchy. Kids screaming all through dinner. Won't repeat
We had never tried this restaurant before even though we've been coming to Nantucket for quite awhile. It is a bit off the beaten path but worth the trip. The ambiance is cozy Nantucket in a kind of antique setting. The food was great. I had the special scallops over polenta and they were great. Another member of our party had the lobster risotto and loved it. My husband had salmon and really enjoyed it but thought the portion was very small.
All in all, a great find. We will return!
We were very happy with the food and service. It was as good as Figs its sister restaurant located in Boston
Delicious! I can't believe this is the first time I have tried. One of Nantucket's best dining secrets. The bolognese was amazing as were the sea scallops (special).
Very disappointing-- wildly overpriced even for Nantucket. I've eaten at many of Todd englihes restaurants & always been pleased but 29 Fair was a big disappointment-- even the flatbreads were bad. Never again
We dined here to celebrate our anniversary. Great service and food. Throwback decor to old Nantucket. Best lobster risotto ever.
Love this place in all respects, highly recommend!!
My wife and friend were very happy with the risotto and chicken. Unfortunately my steak was served lukewarm and the mashed potatoes were cold. I would give them another chance. They are good people
29 Fair is quintessential Nantucket. The food and service were outstanding, and the ambience of dining in a 200 plus year, lovingly maintained restaurant was really special.
7 Lifelong friends from high school gathered at Figs to celebrate seven b-days Saturday night. We had phenominal service, a wondeful wine selection (we chose several Montrachets & Caymus) & 7 outstanding meals. The Scallops were lovely, the Lobster spaghetti or frav diavolo, was spicey but wonderful, fillet was cooked to perfection. Potenially a loud & demanding group the staff placed us in a room almost to ourselves & tended to our every need. After a week on the island eating out almost every night it was a great dining experience & a great wrap up to our week. The atmosphere is cozy and decor rustic: overall great evening
Many Nantucket restaurants have replaced their rustic, colonial atmospheres with a sleek, modern look and feel. Not here, though. The restaurant features dark wood and antique fixtures. We sat almost in the old hearth. The look is quaint and charming, the food, delicious. This is the place to go for romance -- no noisy bar to compete with your intimate conversation (Ask for the inside room, though, if you want the full experience.) The service was excellent, and the prices are reasonable by Nantucket standards. I checked "notable wine list," though I didn't actually look at it. With Tracy Root (formerly of Cioppino's) involved, though, it must be good. In season, it may be hard to reserve a good time (The restaurant is quite small.)
The candlelit tables gave the dining rooms a cozy and romantic feel. We dined with another couple in a booth tucked in a corner which gave way for a feeling of intimacy. We started with two pizzas as appetizers and both were delicious. Everyone enjoyed their entrees which consisted of Halibut, Chicken Milanese and Meatballs. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a romantic dinner for two or for a group of friends.
Cute restaurant with romantic flair. Food was okay; pricey and a limited menu. They only serve beer and wine as well. I went as a large group and it wasn't really comfortable for a party of 6. Service was alright. Waiter seemed bothered by us throughout the dinner even when one asked for ketchup to go with his fries. Waiter was annoyed and irritated for the request.
I would keep it to a small, intimate dinner.
Spent a week on Nantucket and ate dinner out six nights. This was by far the best food, atmosphere, and service of any restaurant we visited on the island, truly an exceptional experience.
Atmosphere is quiet and lovely. Rob was an outstanding server. Salmon in the nicoise entree was over cooked and a little dry but all appetizers and halibut entree were exquisite. Recommend the beet salad also.
Quiet, out of the way find. The perfect spot for an intimate dinner. Food was great, I had a chicken dish that was delicious . I would certainly go back.
This place is a gem. Always great! Rob, the manager and head waiter, is one of the best waiters we have ever had. He makes the experience outstanding.
Great spot - Excellent menu - Family of 5 loved it !
The local fresh produce was fantastic... visit Bartlett to see it grow.
Entree choices created tough choices - All great.
Our kids can give noteworthy guidance to any foodie.
They loved it.
Great space - if you get some overly loud Giants fans at the next table just focus on the Sinatra tunes and relax
One more thing ....DUCK !
Great food and service in a charming atmosphere. Short ribs were amazing as were the pasta dishes!
Figs was one of my favorite dinners in Nantucket. A nice change to all the seafood, my husband and I both ordered pasta and it was amazing! Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, we both stuffed ourselves til we couldn't move because we couldn't let even one bite go to waste! We also got beet salad which was way better than we had at another restaurant and the calamari was tender and had a delicious sauce on top. Oh and they kept brining us fresh warm focaccia that was to die for. For dessert, our waiter surprised us with white chocolate bread pudding which was beyond heavenly and big enough to share. I would definitely go back here the next time I'm on the island!
The waitress rushed the 5 of us. When we asked for a bottle of white wine, she could not accommodate us and said they only served Italian wine. When we gave her several Italian wines, she said she did not have those. So, we asked for a wine list. Instead she poured our glasses with the house white, never brought us a bottle or refills.
She rushed us through the rest of the meal!
The food was fantastic as usual, and we had a laugh over the antics of this waitress. ( who, by the way, has served us before, and was just fine the first time!)
We selected this restaurant based on past experience with other Figs that we liked (Wellesley and Beacon Hill) as well as Olives in Charlestown. We had a very good dinner with very good service - but what I loved most was the building and rooms themselves - it's an old house on a quiet side street in town - several small but quaint rooms with only a few tables in each. Candles everywhere, low beamed ceilings, fireplaces, etc. Would definitively recommend and would definitely come back.
