I was very pleased with the service and ambiance. The food was very tasty as well. It was a cold night when we dined, so we chose to sit inside. One problem we had was the temperature was chilly inside, and the servers kept leaving the doors open when they walked through them. Other than that it was a great experience.
I've only refused to tip the waiter on two occasions, and this dining experience was one of them. The bus boy did a better job of taking our check and bringing our food than the actual waiter. While we did catch the waiter chatting it up with other customers for well over 15 min at one point, we only ever talked to him twice. Once to tell him we needed more time and the second to give him our orders.
I've been to this restaurant once before and the service was awesome, but this guy was just a horrible waiter. I won't be coming back.
This is a really nice restaurant remodeled with a very urban chic atmosphere. Inside is very loud when busy but outside is lovely with nice heaters when it’s cold. This food is not cheap but top of the line home made dishes. The portions are reasonable mostly with salads being very large and shareable. We love it and are locals so frequent often.
Fresco was unbelievable. Free valet parking, loud bar but very quiet table, great service and the best shrimp/scallop fettuccini I think I've ever had. My wife said her chicken risotto was just as good. And everything was reasonable. Would go back in a second.
Meals were great. Server was attentive but not intrusive. For her birthday, daughter was given a cannoli dessert with a sparkler. The remodel is nice, lighter than before. We sat inside, but outside there is a patio for dining. A little loud, but we were able to hear each other...sometimes in the newer restaurants we are finding that the acoustics are so bad that you can't visit with your own dining mates because it's too loud. In this case we could definitely hear each other even with the energetic crowd.
I had the seafood with pasta dish (forget what it's called). The sauce was delicious and pasta was cooked al dente. However, while the 1 piece of shrimp on the top of the dish was very fresh, the calamari, clams were tough and the fish had a dry texture and no taste. I would not order this again.
My husband had the flat pasta with meat sauce and meatballs. He said it was very good.
Both portions were generous and the price was reasonable.
We did not like the noise level even though there weren't very many people there, but this is the case of many restaurants. They are deafeningly loud. Also, the wood chairs were very uncomfortable (suggest tie on cushions for diners' comfort.
Really wanted to love this place because the aesthetic is so cute! I've run by it a few times and had a chance to come by for lunch. It was a Monday. Reservation was for 1:30, but the rest of my party arrived late, so we were sat around 2:15. Definitely not the lunch rush. It took at least 20 minutes to get a server and when he did come by, he was harried and short, asking what we wanted without even explaining the specials (the menu had a number of X of the day items). We had to ask numerous times for things like oil and vinegar for the bread (while the table beside us had it sitting there, ours did not), beverages, refills, etc. We really wanted to try some appetizers, but as long as it took just to get a server to greet us, we knew we didn't have time. The food came out fairly quickly, so it's a service issue that should be able to be remedied but, unfortunately, with so many other great dining options in North County San Diego, this is one we won't be trying again.
Excellent NYE menu 3 course ! Had rack of lamb with the purple potato mash, Noci salad,(which was much nicer then the almond salad),and the lemoncello dessert which was a great surprise in a champagne flute from an Italian company I've had before. The noise level was more then "energetic" it really killed giving this restaurant a perfect rating, and it was quite cold with the patio doors opening & closing, and our table was in the middle of the room of walls of windows and concrete bare floors. Will dine again because the food , service & wine list was fantastic, but will opt for the patio and possibly a late lunch/early dinner next time.
Our 1st dining experience was New years eve 2017. As expected to be crazy and busy . We had a 645 reservation and were promptly seated by 630. KUDOS.
Complimentary VALET was available to us as patrons so we did not have to deal with parking. KUDOS!!.
We will be back as we are locals living in CARLSBAD for Happy Hour! Cheers 🍷
First time at Fresco since the remodel was completed. Used to be really old school Italian restaurant feel. Updated the look and feel of the entire experience yet maintained the traditional fare that is on offering. I had their lasagna. My favorite dish! My wife had the Chicken Portofino with a butter-wine saucw, artichokes and pine nuts. Amazing dish. I'll be ordering that next time. Enjoyed their sangria with dinner. Very tastey and reasonably priced. I would recommend to everyone.
Went to Fresco for holiday dinner with friends who had never been. Great ambiance. Food is wonderful; a bit pricey, but worth it. Service was great. Both previous lunch and happy hour were equally good. We will be making this a local spot for dinner in Carlsbad.
Although not a upscale five star resteraunt..I thought the food was quite good. The only exception ... we asked for the salad to be lightly dressed, and it came, I'm guessing how they normally serve it.... which for me, was overdressed! Still quite good though. There was also a lil mini drama where the manager did not have the reservation for a party of 15 and we had to move to accommodate them, kinda weird but not really a big deal because the waitress in the new section was so pleasant and professional.
