23Hoyt Ratings and Reviews
This is now a go-to spot for me and my family. They were great with our party of 6 plus baby. The food is terrific and service is great. I love all of the live trees they have on the inside and it's vibrant but quiet enough to hear everyone at the table. It's also around great shopping areas.
Great place to go for "off the menu" weekend brunch. I thought it was terrific. Opens at 10am, which was the perfect time to arrive.
The only hitch I had was that the server immediately brought our table a plate of delicious donut holes in caramel. I don't believe anyone ordered it. I wrongly assumed it was a complimentary offering. However it materialized as $8 on the bill.
This is the second time I ate at 23Hoyt. The experience was the same. The service was excellent - by excellent, I mean the wait staff was friendly and attentive. It was Thanksgiving so the pre-fixe menu had sufficient options for a great meal. The recommended wine was also excellent (an Oregon Pinot Noir. We had a 7:00 pm reservations and got there a little early. We sat almost to the minute!!!! Love this restaurant. Friends may be visiting soon and my wife said, "we're definitely taking them to 23Hoyt to experience the best of Portland dining!!"
Note: my wife and I are not fine dining experts, but we've had the opportunity to dine is some very fine restaurant in NYC (11 Madison), Tokyo, Seattle, San Francisco, Seoul, etc. 23Hoyt ranks up there with restaurants in all of these cities.
Everything about this dinning experience was perfect! It was a great way to spend our Thanksgiving with friends and family. Our cocktails were fabulous and dinner was delicious. The service was excellent, perfectly paced, professional and friendly. We have eaten at 23Hoyt several times and always love it.
Bad night. Three for dinner. Steak and duck were good as were the apps. Salmon was flavorless and after waiting 20 mins for the Deseret it was so embarrassing the waiter (only bright spot of tne evening) took it off tbe bill before putting it on tne table. Clearly the kitchen was overwhelmed.
Won’t be going back anytime soon.
Our waiter, Beau, was really kind and exceptional. He had a lot of great advice about food choices. The food was really hearty and delicious, yet very healthy and fresh. I could tell everything was made fresh to order. The ambiance is beautiful and I will definitely be back for another round. We had the Veal Marsala and it was delish, but I want to try the cod next time!
Very nice dining experience! We had the cornmeal fried oysters, heirloom tomato salad, duck breast, and salmon. Everything was great! The Duck Breast was a bit rare but still very good. Just something to be aware of. Our waiter was great! We really enjoyed the restaurant and the value of the meal was excellent!
My wife and I had to be in Portland, so we decided to make a date out of it and we were very happy we did. The salad (heirloom), entrees (risotto and veal Marsala) and wines were exceptional. Staff cordial, outgoing and "just nice" and treated us very well. Will certainly be back again. Thank you 23Hoyt!!!
We had a very nice dinner at 23Hoyt. We asked for a quiet table, and while there may be no truly quiet table at this restaurant, we were seated in a distant corner of the dining room. Our server was attentive, friendly, informative, and appropriate. Food prices were good, considering the rising operating costs at Portland's restaurants, and the portions were both generous and delicious. Cocktails were outstanding. 23Hoyt does not pretend to be a temple of haute cuisine, but we had a very good time; it was a memorable meal, and we shall return.
My husband and I love this place! Jill was our server and she is outstanding. All of the staff is friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome. The food is always delicious. We tried a new item on the menu -- a stuffed poblano pepper. It was lively in flavor and beautiful in presentation. If you've never dined at 23Hoyt, stop reading this and make your Open Table reservation now. You won't be disappointed.
Overall it was a good experience, however the service was slow at times and the duck breast was not worth the $30. It lacked flavor and for what you pay for it is simply not worth it. The interior decor of the restaurant is hip and modern, and I would recommend their rosemary fries and BLT sandwich
2nd visit to this restaurant which I wish could have been better. My first visit I had clams which were delicious, my son had a pasta dish which was small but tasty so size was forgivable. On this visit I opted for the fried oysters as clams were off the menu, I didn't enjoy them at all, sloshy oysters, too much cornmeal batter. The fried chicken was one piece, mainly bones, on a bed of difficult to chew leaves. Maybe I chose the wrong things, perhaps the kitchen was having a bad day, whatever the reason I'm sad this place isn't producing consistently good food, because if it did it would be incredible.
23Hoyt is a gorgeous restaurant with a friendly and attentive waitstaff. The food is outstanding. I had the Columbia River King Salmon on forbidden rice - it was perfectly prepared and delicious. Oh, and the cornbread was amazing - some of the best I've ever had!
The ambiance is terrific. The decor is upscale, without being pretentious. And they have live music that is not too loud (so you don't have to shout over it).
I would highly recommend this restaurant!
We visit Portland often for our anniversary week and dinner at 23Hoyt is a "must" for us! Once again this place knocked it out of the park. While it tended to get noisy at times (a sign of everyone having a wonderful time), we were seated a bit apart from the crowd so we were able to enjoy our special night. Food was fantastic, our server was outstanding and very attentive, and the doughnut holes were simply divine!
We were celebrating family being back in town and had a lovely large table tucked in to a corner all to ourselves. Our server, Beau, was a gem. We loved having the caesar salad we remember from Zefiro's, a much beloved closed Portland restaurant, with same ownership as 23Hoyt. We'll be back!
The food was fantastic. A great melding of flavors that complimented each other.
This was a quiet Sunday dinner and there were not a lot of other guests. The high ceilings make it seem even more vacant when there aren't very many people there. Not exactly a downer but it did detract from the experience.
The service was good but not great. This was mostly because the wine service was pretty awkward. The waiter placed a decanter on the far side of the table and then, after a fairly low skilled opening of the bottle, had to reach across the table again to retrieve the decanter. Not a horrible thing but not first class, either.
We have eaten here before and had a great experience. But this time the service was terrible. When we got to the restaurant and checked in for our reservation the host pointed to corner and said your table is up there and someone will be with you soon. We waited a long time before waiter came over to greet us. The waiter then asked if we were ready to order our food and we said no we would like a cocktail first. He was extremely rude. At the end of the meal he dropped down dessert menus and didn't say a word...just walked away. To pay our bill at the very end I couldn't find the waiter and had to take to the host. Don't think we will go back.
