We had planned for a lovely brunch to catch up with friends which we had not seen for some time: however, 23Hoyt had a disgusting drag show which was so loud that we could not have a conversation! It was so out of place for a Sunday afternoon and there was no notice of any kind.....it will be our last time at this restaurant and it truly took NW 23rd area to a new low!
Absolutely loved New Years dinner here with our big group. It's hard I think for a place to accommodate 14 on a holiday but with their prefix and the double server action, their people got it done. We have a big, loud, annoying family (and we know it) but everyone was soooo nice to us and there were no waits, no probs, a lot of laughter with Ashley their manager too. Food was above and beyond. I think we must have gone through 5 bottles of wine, I didn't like the merlot that my aunt picked but that's just because I don't like merlot. This was my first time but I think Valentines day is definitely in the cars, based on their holiday smoothness.
Another nice night at 23Hoyt begins with candle light, the Blazers game is on, happy hour is the bomb, etcetcetc. I don't know of another place that is landing it this hard. Y'all gonna make me go broke! The bar was packed//busy but we got great service from the bartender and stayed after the game for plenty more. Yum!
I love this place! Great drinks, scrumptious food, good people! Can you ask for more? Nice stop while shopping on 23rd. Thank you!
My wife and I had their taggliatelle with pork and their lamb. Oy Vey what a choice. Juicy cut, the noodles were so slurpable and covered in a brothy, stewy gravy. We each also ordered their ceasar salads and some of the fried risotto. All of the food was very good and service was fast, server was presentable and clean looking-- also FRIENDLY, which is rare in Portland.
New year day brunch! Great atmosphere and excellent food paired with Mimosas
My husband and I went for New Year’s brunch and it was incredible! Andrew was our server and we love him - he’s our favorite! The food was amazing, the service impeccable, and the whole experience was very relaxed and chill. We highly recommend 23 Hoyt to all of our friends and family, as it’s a very special spot for us. We were engaged there on July 3, 2016, and we go to every major holiday/special occasion, for their one-of-a-kind meals. Thank you!!
Decided to spend NYE at 23Hoyt since they had a good looking prix fixe menu and live jazz. We were disappointed by the service, didn't receive our drinks for 40 minutes after sitting down. When we asked the server for non-alcoholic cocktails for my pregnant wife, we were told "sure, I guess the bartender can make a mocktail", but no options we're given. The poor service was continued for the rest of the evening; it wasn't uncommon for us to go 15 min or longer with our drinks and water completely empty.
The food itself looked good on paper, but was mediocre at best. The prawn and salad were good, but the entrees were not very flavorful. Overall it was a very disappointing dinner for $85 per person.
NYE dinner. Service was very slow. Food was mediocre. No water throughout dinner. Very expensive bad dinner
Sorry but for a $85/person price I expect really great food. We turned back 3 of the 4 courses due to unappealing flavor/texture, tough thin steak, unappealing flavor/consistency of dessert. Not great.
Great food on a late night visit after a long day of holiday travel. Just the best food!
Jazz here is fantastic. Randomly ended up here while shopping on 23rd ave and truly enjoyed our 2 1/2 hours in their lounge, listening to the live show and having dinner. At first we were just peckish, but after a few glasses of wine, we did end up eating a full meal. I was very impressed with their home-made pastas and really the filet was one of the better steaks we have had in nw portland. Our server mentioned that new years eve was going to be a big show there so we will definitely come back to see it. Love that there is live music coming back to this city again!
We came back after a few months and gotta say I am really impressed with what 23&hoyt has got going on. Was my cousin's b day and they made everything really perfect, including allowing us to decorate the table a little bit before the reservation. My mom can be picky and even she was having a grerat time. I ordered their aranchini, a happy hour caesar salad, and got their pork chop as the entree. All very good. No one was upset with service, which was friendly and prompt--I think Rusty was his name. Very sexy vibe with the music and candle light. Will be back more often!
Great consistent service, food presentation is spot on!
I chose a vegan dish (squash, beans, pear “salad”). It was exceptionally salty and I couldn’t eat any of it 😞 Pear salad turned out to be 6 matchsticks of pear on 7 sprigs of frisée. I was sad 😔 and they compensated us.
How nice to be open for Xmas eve! We shared some time with the folks here at 23 Hoyt for the big day, not wanting to cook/clean until Christmas proper and I am glad we did. Menu was a pre-fixed chef special and there was a little something for everyone. I really loved their steak on the list and had a few glasses of their house pinot. I will be buying that bottle for home, thank YOU! ;) Servers were also very nice and we tipped alittle extra since they worked on the holiday. Gotta do it!
I am mainly writing this due to a knock out performance I witnessed here from a singer named Joanna Lee but will go into the rest a bit. We were there for a weekend night, enjoying dinner and I suppose they do live music sessions during December and Jan on the weekends. Server was nice, food great, ordered their Tagleatelle pasta and it was really wholesome, filling, and tasty. We were brought warm bread and our appetizers were the Arancini, the raddichio salad, and their tartare. The tartare was elk, to my recollection and it was perfectly made with a yolk, citrus zest, and really delicious spice profile. I would have ordered a 2nd round had the entrees not arrived so quickly. ANYWAY, I want to just sing the praises of this performance because we were not expecting that kind of night but were SO SO SO impressed. Her voice is beyond pro and it was such a delight to be right there, sitting next to the stage as she sang some really catchy tunes we all could enjoy. A lot of times you see a performer and it's like "ok..." but this was above and beyond. Thank you to 23Hoyt for making that night so special!
Christmas Eve dinner was great. There was a menu specifically for the occasion. The dessert was a little lackluster comparatively.
What a disappointing Christmas Eve dinner. The price was OUTRAGEOUS for the quality and quantity of food served. I knew it seemed a bit expensive going into it but I thought that if the food was amazing it might be worth it. $65 for three small courses! With one of those courses being a dessert choice between a small lemon tart (literally the size of my middle finger and thumb making a circle) or eggnog and cookies! Not real restaurant quality desserts. And if the entrees were even considered to be in the $30 range, that would leave the starter (in my case this was a bowl of soup) and dessert to have cost $35 between the two of them, so $17.50 each. Again, if the quality had been good I might have been okay with all of this but it wasn't. And the service wasn't top quality, either. Not horrible but our entrees came out while we were still eating our starters. Soup came out without a spoon and then took several minutes to finally arrive. And then they kept coming back while we we're eating the entrees to see if we were done so they could bring the desserts out. And clearing the plates was very sloppily done. Honestly, there isn't enough room here to go into all of the details other than to say I would definitely not recommend someone to come here for Christmas again. Can't say what it's like on a regular night but not sure I can imagine it's much better.
We appreciate the people working on Christmas Eve. This was our first adventure without our kids and we wanted to do something fun which we did and we enjoyed the food we enjoyed the ambience beautiful trees and wonderful staff thank you
They were closed, even though the app took our reservation.
We have a standing date with our granddaughter since she was little to see the Nutcracker then dinner. It was a great evening!
We arrived early for our reservation, checked in with the hostess & had a lovely drink at the bar, though we found the timing and attentiveness of the bartender to be lackluster at best. When it was time for our reservation we checked back in, the hostess had clearly given our table away. Once seated, next to the door, we waited 10-15 minutes before being approached by a harried server who said “we’re really busy and it will be a while” then walked away. To add insult to injury, as the server placed his hand on the back of the chair to deliver the news, his fingers were in my armpit. We actually walked out, unable to find the hostess to let her know we’d be leaving, and went to a restaurant down the street. We have had two lovely dinners at 23Hoyt and are quite disappointed by the recent experience.
Ok Benedict- expected big salmon chunks- overwhelmed by poached eggs-
This is a great restaurant. We’ve celebrated several special occasions here and this was the first time we went for brunch. The ambiance, food and service were great. Loved that there was paper on the table for my son to draw on and of course a carafe of mimosas for the adults ;)
We came in with family for dinner this weekend. The people here are very nice. I ordered a pasta dish which tasted much like the seasonal spices of autumn. I believe it was the tagliatelle. There was no real wait at the door which was nice. I had a bottle of wine delivered to the table and most of their selection is local, from nw regions like Willamette Valley, Yamhill, some was from WA and CA but not many. Seems to be more of a local style. I enjoyted 23 & Hoyt and will be back again I'm sure.
Really enjoy a place on the block that is just relaxing, good vibes, good food, interesting drinks. I feel like I look far and wide in Portland for a drink menu that is actually interesting and not just 50 kinds of bitters plus ancho reyes--23&hoyt delivers this. Each drink is silky smooth, inspired by bigger menus in the country, obviously build for wide net, plus "hmmm..." I now hang out here and just chill about twice or three nights a week. Food is italian inspired American food, so no junk. Everything is really healthy and staff seems to also like the food which is a good sign lol
Will keep coming back!
Mediocre experience. Not worth the price. Food was ok, but nothing to rave about. Started off with a margarita that was 75% ice andctasted like it was made with a mix. Thr risotto had a good flavor, but was a tad undercooked. The acorn squash (actually delicata squash, but I like delicata) was odd...cold cooked squash with pinenuts and radicchio? The mussels & clams tasted fine, but half of them were so tiny they weren't worth the effort. I dined at 23 Hoyt at the recommendation of a friend. My overall experience was just "ok", but didn't live up to my friend's hype.
Still in love with this space, all these years later. Absolutely magical experience. The food, the cocktails, the people. Big love for Rustin, our server! Made the night extra "North west".
Thank you 23H for making my birthday special :) -Sarah O
Had a great time at Drag Brunch this past Sunday, the queens were dazzling and the brunch for 12 I hosted went very well. We worked with Ashley, the GM there and she was very accommodating and her crew made things come out fast and delicious. My favorite thing had to have been their salmon benedict. Very delicious and fresh salmon. Sometimes you go to a breakfast place and they are serving what did not sell regarding fish but I liked this a lot, very good representation of the northwest and her bounty!
Santa Brunch was fabulous as always!
It took us an hour and a half to get our food and the food wasn’t even good (not to mention cold).
Great dinner as usual, great new cocktail menu with some hot stuff for the season. We ordered a few of the Kenwoods Places and hung out in their lounge, ordering small bites here and there--Aranchini being one, we shared their grilled beets, and also the tartare. Our server was nice, I believe his name was Zach.
Menu changes from week to week for brunch. which is great. Food is always great as is the service. Would highly recommend this to all.
Attended the Drag Brunch at the venue. Arrived early, just after my reservation time, and was seated right away. The server showed up fair soon to take our drink orders. I ordered the mimosa pitcher, and my husband ordered a classic margarita. It then took almost 25 minutes from when that order was placed, before receiving the drink. During that time, our server was busy, but not overly so. However, I do not believe it was the server, but the bartender who took forever before I finally saw them make the drink. It was delivered soon after it was made, but it was not made for over 20 minutes.
I ordered food, the standard breakfast. It came out in a reasonable amount of time. However, we had no salt and pepper at our table. No offer was made for ketchup, and I received very dry toast, and nothing to put on it. I have ordered the classic bacon-eggs-toast breakfast at a lot of restaurants over the years, but I have never received toast with nothing to put on it. I finally had to ask the table next to ours to borrow their salt and pepper, so I could eat the rest of my food while it was warm. I had also ordered coffee some time ago, which never arrived. When the server came by again, after I was mostly finished with my meal, I asked about jam. After about 10 minutes, while I was using the restroom, jam was left for me. Never did get the coffee.
When I received the bill, I noticed a $2 service charge with no indication why. Was it for the jam? Or was it because we asked for change for change for a $20 bill, twice, so we could tip the drag queens? I paid the bill as it was, and left a reasonable tip, but if you are charging for either jam that should be included with an overpriced regular breakfast, or to make change in order to support your entertainment, both are reasons to keep me away from this establishment.
One note, the drag show was fantastic, even if the venue had terrible sound. I would see those queens again, anywhere.
We were super excited to do drag brunch again and I had some new people along. It was pretty disappointing. The first time I brought a friend with food allergies it was a great experience; the second time was expensive the way they billed her so it was so-so. This time the plate that came out had food for maybe a toddler on it and our server comped it when we commented. New attendee said her salmon benedict was overpowered by spinach, those of us with monte cristo basically tasted a pizza sandwich, and there was no sound. The "herbed potatoes" per chef were unsafe for allergen friend and yet the potatoes that came out for the people that had them on their plate had no seasoning to speak of. I've spoken very highly of the food at 23hoyt and drag brunch, so people were excited, and it was underwhelming on all levels. I know at least 2 of them won't be back and I'm honestly unsure about the rest of us.
