We enjoyed our meal last night! Service was great and staff was friendly.
They seem to be working out a new menu. It is interesting and tasty and looking forward to getting back when they have their new items worked out.
We went for Mother’s Day. Food was overpriced and very disappointing. Everything was lukewarm, as though it had been sitting under heat lamps. Ended up costing us $200 for four people with only two drinking. I have never been so appalled at the quality of the food at the price it was marked. We will not be returning.
Terrific, friendly service! The staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable.
Whenever extra points are available (1000 pt bonus) I am always suspicious but the location and ambiance of this restaurant made us want to try it. We went here for our anniversary dinner and from the beginning, the service was awkward, I’ll-timed and uncomfortable. We were seated next to the only other couple in the restaurant and had hoped to have a more private experience. The server was not knowledgeable about the menu (hadn’t tried any dishes) and we felt like an after thought. We ordered a starter a piece and two entrees. Mine was forgotten and had to be “rushed” out. My second glass of wine came at the end of my second course and only when I asked if it was actually coming. The food was bland and tasteless and too oily. Despite some good ideas and a nice atmosphere as you walk in the execution of the food and service were poor. Apologies were offered but nothing comped. Wouldn’t recommend won’t be back.
Andrew was amazing and gave us great local advice!
First, let me say that we will be back. The ambiance alone is worth a visit. We loved the tall glass windows that turned the interior into something of an atrium. Plants abound in the dining area, which we loved. That being said, we were a little disappointed with the speed of service we received. A family of four and another couple came in after us, but bother received food before us. One of the tables even ordered the same food. I had a double-bone pork chop that was pretty good. The meat was a little dry/overcooked, but everything had good flavor and overall, I would try it again. My wife had the salmon, which was very tasty and well done. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. We'll be back for round two, perhaps to try out the happy hour specials.
They have a wonderful brunch! Great location and convenient for medium-sized groups.
Food was terrible, overpriced. The service was nice, however.
Nice Easter Brunch, loves the bunny!
Drag Brunch is a must, and so fun! Please keep this going. :)
We were a tad disappointed. it's a very nice spot, hadn't been there in awhile, and was looking forward to it. We were welcomed, server came immediately - all good. My husband had the bavatte; really liked it, accompanying French fries were hot, tasty. I had the rabbit with spatzele, not good! meat stringy, not freshly made. But, here's the thing - we began to feel they were very anxious to get us out - cleared my plate, boxed the rabbit mess before my husband was finished. At end of meal, while I was away from the table, poured the rest of the bottle of wine as if to say, drink up and leave. The greeter kept hovering around our table - I finally asked, how often do you hope to turn tables. He replied after an hour and half. I was astounded! I didn't come to eat, but to dine, talk to my husband, share an evening out. And, no, I wouldn't have stayed three hours. But, we felt as though, for some reason, maybe our age?, they were very anxious for us to leave. We will go back and give it another try. The jazz trio was lovely, but something was amiss.
The menu options are quite creative, and the food itself was delicious. The have a pretty long wine list and they do great cocktails. We'll go there again!
Very nice. Caesar salad and pork chop was excellent
23Hoyt was delicious, and making a reservation made it a worry-free experience. The food was fantastic, cocktails were excellent, and the ambiance is fun - Portland rustic, with some modern flair.
Sadly Devin Philips was not here tonight which was the reason we came with another couple. There should be more notice when the music act is not as promised. We had a good time and the trio was lovely but not what we were expecting.
Great restaurant, wonderful food and service, but you better love loud jazz on Friday nights!
A lovely spot in this part of Portland. The halibut I had was cooked to perfection and so delicate, it was amazing! The ambience is nice, I just wish the noise level could be taken down a notch. Definitely worth a visit though.
It was fine. I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend if they asked me where to eat. But if they asked me about 23Hoyt specifically, I’d have no real complaints. It was a very common feeling place. The food was terribly inspired, the server was almost stand-offish, it was loud at first (on a Monday) and got louder when the salsa music started, they were out of half the desserts. There was just nothing about the experience that made me think I’d really like to go back.
Good food but very slow service (we waited about 40 min between finishing our appetizer and getting our entree). Waitress did a good job, but the kitchen was extremely slow.
Loved it. The Wagyu Burger was fantastic. We were next to the jazz music they play on Friday evenings. I highly recommend.
Great meal for Portland Dining Month. Well prepared, well presented, excellent value. The musical trio was a lovely addition. The service was friendly and prompt. Couldn't fault it. And, I just found out they will be extending the special $33 three-course special through April. Excellent!
Took advantage of the Portland dining month menu which was delish. Also had a lovely bottle of wine.
I love the acoustics in your restaurant! We came especially to hear the fabulous Paul Mazzio and his trio and LOVE that we could hear him so well even with a full restaurant. Loved our food. LOVE that I can have a bonding experience with my twelve year old (an enthusiastic student of Paul) hearing jazz, while enjoying a drink and delicious food. As soon as you have Paul back, we'll be there!
Table for 2. We had a great first experience! Loved the decor and ambiance. Service was perfect- not too fast or too slow. Great quality dinner!
The noise level was exceptionally high, mostly because of a loud table or two of patrons nearby and in an alcove. The lighting level so low, I had to read the menu with a flashlight. The pork loin was delicious, but slightly over cooked. The pecan pie was excellent and service fantastic.
My partner and I chose 23 Hoyt for my birthday dinner venue and it was the perfect choice. We ordered all six options from the Portland Dining Month menu and were very impressed with the quality and presentation. The flavors were crisp, bright, and very distinct. The drink menu was creative and complimentary to our courses, and the drinks we ordered were delicious and well balanced.
Our server, Jill, was knowledgeable, friendly, warm, and very helpful. She was wonderful at making us feel welcome and attended to. It was such a pleasure to be waited on by her!
We've dined here for brunch several times but this was our first dinner and we were very impressed with the overall experience. Would highly recommend taking your business here as we will be returning ourselves!
Service and food was slow although the restaurant was not busy. First time there, thought we’d try it because they were part of Portland Dining Month. Food was ok, not was I was hoping for given the other participating restaurants that we’ve tried.
Great food at good prices. Good music (jazz trio). Great service too
Thank you aaronfldr!
It was date night for us. We dined on a Saturday and we sat on the far right of the restaurant. A live jazz band was playing that was not too loud (as long as you did not sit within 10 feet of the band). The service was excellent and he was attentive. The ambiance was a warm setting at 7 PM, tasty cocktails, and delicious entrees. The risotto was well prepared. I definitely recommend 23Hoyt for an intimate gathering. Sante'
Took advantage of the Portland Dining Month special. Food was terrific and presentation was outstanding. With a 7 pm Friday reservation, we had the live jazz during dinner. The group was excellent but the noise level with diners and band made it tough to carry on conversations at our table without leaning in. Enjoyed the place and the meal greatly.
Thank you JackW!
Why do people have to scream while dining?
This is quickly becoming our "go to" restaurant, which is meaningful in that we are foodies and love the restaurants in the 23rd and 21st St corridors. If you want the best fried oysters you've ever had, this is the place for you. We haven't had an entree we didn't love either. Desserts are not their strong suit but that just gives us an excuse to drop by another favorite along the walk home.
We have been to 23Hoyt several times and have enjoyed it. Unfortunately this last visit wasn't the same. Service and cocktails were fine but the food wasn't up to standards. The steak frites were good but the items off the Portland Dining Month menu were not. The radicchio salad was overly bitter, the pork dish was bland tough and dry and the desert was not appetizing. Overall disappointed in our meal.
Hi DanielZ, We are happy you have had many enjoyable experiences with us but sad your last was disappointing. We will send you a private message so we can get to the bottom of your last visit. We want to make you happy. Thank you
We had a reservation @ 1pm. We were seated on time but it took an hour to get our food. The restaurant was busy but by the time we got our food there were only a few customers left. We felt like we were the last to get served. Our server was nice but an hour is way to long to wait on food when you have a reservation. We were a party of 3.
Good Morning Janene, We are sorry you had this experience. It sounds like Sunday brunch was a busy one, but not a smooth service. We sent you a private message. Please try us again. What you experienced is not usual. Customers love our brunch! Thank you.
I have been to 23Hoyt for dinner, which was very enjoyable. However, I went for brunch with some friends, and none of us had a very positive experience. The waitress was uninviting and had an attitude with us. She also was very soft-spoken and not knowledgable about the menu. Additionally, our table's food took much longer to come out than those around us, and when it did it was cold. Finally, when the food did come out, I had asked for salsa to go with it, which took about 8 minutes to actually be brought to the table. By the time the salsa had arrived, all of the other people had finished eating.
While I enjoyed 23Hoyt for dinner the time that I went, I will not be returning after this negative experience and would not recommend it to a friend.
Good Morning Holli, We are sorry you had this experience. This is not typical at brunch. It is a very popular meal period. People love it. It would be helpful to get a clearer description of your waiter so we can coach her. Thank you for your feedback. We hope to see you again. We know we can do better for you!
Food and service good. But nothing stands out. There is nothing that sets this restaurant apart from the numerous dining options available.
Hello CalleeJ, Thank you for the feedback. We would appreciate details from your last visit. We regret you did not leave satisfied. We always welcome feedback on how we could have served you better. We have sent you a private message and hope to see you again soon!
Overall, very enjoyable!
