A nice night with the family at 23Hoyt. THank you for providing a good time for both the kids and my elderly mother/father. Friendly waiters and good food. A little something for everyone here.
My wife Caroll and I have enjoyed 23Hoyt for many years and will continue to do so. Sharp attention to guests, they even brought a round of champagne for our anniversary this afternoon without us ordering it. If you end up in the neighborhood, give them a shot.
Our favorite place to eat out while in Portland. Prices are very fair for the caliber of food, ambience, and service. Casual dress in an upscale restaurant. Kid's menu tops out at $8.50 which is nice. Entrees average about $30-$40. Just went for my birthday and couldn't be happier.
Excellent food; kind servers and staff. Great ambiance and they gave us crayons to draw!
So frustrated to be treated the way our party of 8 (we were hosting friends from out of town) was this evening! Table was so dark we had to pull out our phones to read the menu. We then were served drinks and appetizers followed. But then we sat for nearly 45 minutes before anyone came to check on us! We didn’t order more drinks but certainly would have. Food finally came out without an explanation. Then start disappeared again so to get our bill we all stood up and started putting our coats on. Waitress then came over and asked if we wanted dessert. We passed and paid and left. It may have been 1/2 full Thursday night when we went. No excuse for the way we were ignored, especially considering how much we spent there. Built in tip on the check so I didn’t bother to add anything extra. Very disappointed. Too many other options for good dinner and drinks to have to put up with this.
Second Time in a month I dined at 23 Hoyt service, the food, the cocktails and the ambience are fabulous thanks
Servers were annoyed that I had kids with me even though they feature a kids menu. The kids menus were not printed, they were out of rootbeer and fruit from the kids menu. While this restaurant is featured on OpenTable right now I chose it, for our one dinner in Portland during this quick trip it was a very disappointing experience.
Absolutely delicious brunch and generous mimosa. Staff was attentive but not intrusive.
Last minute selection did not disappoint especially with $4 mimosas. Biscuits and gravy and salmon Benedict bite outstanding. Worth stumbling into
Not too busy the evening we ate dinner there so were quite surprised at very slowly our main course was delivered. The drinks and appetizer arrived promptly and then we waited and waited. Our server did come over offering to sell us another round of drinks & did apologize for the slowness.... was it on purpose? Only about 20% of the tables were filled. We enjoyed the decor and the food, once it arrived -- but the scheduling seemed odd & could have been a problem if we'd had plans for after dinner.
Good food...interesting menu and lots of good foodie choices.
This place is a Gem.. Kyle whom we met at our wedding made our night here. He is an amazing person. This is our new go to place for food freinds and good times
My boyfriend and I had dinner reservations at 6, and we were seated promptly in a nice romantic dim corner with lots of candles. There was happy hour until 6:30 on Saturday and we took advantage of the menu. We shared hand dipped Onion Rings, a Bacon , Egg Cheeseburger, Cesar Salad and Shrimp and Grits with a Lemon Wine sauce. We absolutely loved everything we had. The service was stellar and personable and the food was delicious and served hot and quickly. We will be coming back for sure!
We enjoyed our evening at your restaurant. There were no raves a out our dinner and no disappointments other than our server was delayed in seeing us for fifteen minutes. Why? We don’t know. Thank you for a nice dinner. John and Anita
Online menu didn’t match in house menu. Out of a main dish early in the evening. Got a steak and it was incredibly over done.
Service was excellent and did did everything they could to fix it. Was entirely kitchen problems
As a former restaurant owner, it is great to see a place we have enjoyed for so many years continue to innovate and "keep up with the times" without changing the things we love. You guys have added to the experience with pleasant waiters, a nice new GM, and a bigger menu and it is noticeable. Loving the newest touches, glad you kept the Lewis and Clark on the cocktail list too :)
Still in love with this space, all these years later. Absolutely magical experience. The food, the cocktails, the people. Big love for Rustin, our server! Made the night extra "North west".
Thank you 23H for making my birthday special :) -Sarah O
Had to come back after the GREAT service we received for burger week. Honestly, the regular dinner menu looked very appealing from the window, but we were only there for a burger. This time around, I brought some business/work friends and each of us (4) were very impressed. Initially, we sat for Happy Hour and ordered a few items, spiced nuts, a few caesars, deviled eggs, and spicy mac. All of which very good. The caesar is interesting, whole leaf romaine hearts that you can pick up and crunch down on, fully dressed with parm and crutons. Very fresh and stood out to me.
A few steaks and a duck entree for the table, all temps checked out and the duck (mine) was particularly good. The roasted apple and carrot on top of farro is out of this world. Slightly tart, perfect "fatty" salt levels, farro is a great vehicle, less boring than wild rice or something.
No dessert this time around but only because we needed to skidattle! Seems there is a lot to experience here. We ordered a few bottles of Pinot, which I remember as being good but looking at what esle they offer, I would say I need to keep heading back for more.
I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at 23Hoyt. The hostess Ashley was excellent as was the entire wait staff. The yellow squash appetizer was a 1st time for me and I’ll definitely have it again. The hangar steak was cooked perfectly as well.
This was our 3rd time visiting 23rd and Hoyt. The tomato bruschetta was clunky and hard to eat with huge chunks of cucumber and tomatoes falling off the bread. The shrimp and grits were under seasoned and the mushroom pasta was undercooked and not very flavorful. Our server did not even offer us dessert and just dropped the check. Nothing was overly terrible but you expect more if you paying a lot for the food and experience. Our first time was fantastic but it has gone down hill since then. We won't be back, there are too many other places that are AMAZING!
Super cool location and vibe. Server was amazing and food came out quickly. Several dishes were not available and portions were average. Prices were on the high side. Overall we had a nice experience. Probably wouldn’t be someplace we go to regularly.
It's a more upscale restaurant. I had the salmon and it was a bit dry. The short ribs were excellent. Th bread is great. The kale side was some of the best kale ever. The gumbo was a good size and I was presently surprised. They even gave a good amount of shrimp. It's a good place fora date or business meeting. Very nice ambience.
Ive never really known about this place but stopped in yesterday for a little snack after hearing the smooth jams outside :) At first we thought it would be a little pricey btu looking at the menu, happy hour was going on and we got a good deal. For me, the spicy mac, our caesar, and that gigantic corn dog were easily good and plentiful--the wings were a little sweet but also good. I like that they brought out a warm napkin for hands too because you know it was all over the place. Very big wing too. I was actually surprized they had them on happyhour because they were so big. Had a good time, will try them again for dinner soon.
Visited 23Hoyt over the weekend and the service is still stellar, food is getting better by the week, and it seems they are really settling into their new menu! Patio was packed so we waited, then eventually sat on the 23rd side. Ordered their new smoked wings and some other items. Gotta mention those wings. Sweet and savory, gigantic an on the bone. Thanks again!
Nice people, quick with the drinks, really tasty salmon and a lot to choose from. Love that they are playing the US open on TV in their lounge too. No one does that! Very fun an interactive place to be. Will be back!
This was our 3rd time there and past 2 were not impressive. Apps were good and timely (bruschetta and ceased salad). Main meal was delivered 1.25 hours after sitting and was just okay. Ordered mushroom fettuccine and it was a smaller portion of fettuccine with about 6 pieces of mushroom, barbecue cauliflower was basic and kale was tough. Waiter was unapologetic about long wait for main course - did not visit table and ignored eye contact while we waited. Dining room was not busy so we are unsure why there was such a long wait.
Hello Anonymous, 3 visits. Thank you! It would be helpful to know who your server was, a description. When you visited, there was a large wedding reception in the mezzanine. It was a very busy night for the kitchen. It sounds like your table's timing may have been affected by the evening's event. I am sorry this was your experience. I will look into the vegetarian entree you describe here. It has been received well in the recent past. Please respond. I believe we can make this right for you. Thx
Was disappointed that there are TV’s in the primary dining area. For the price point we were certainly expecting more. Do not recommend. Too many other options in the neighborhood.
Hello Pdxoriginal, If you were sat in view of the televisions at the bar, you were actually in the bar area. We do seat the entire restaurant for dinner and given the openness of the space, I can see why you perceived where you were sitting as the primary dining area. There are 3 other places to sit away from the bar. We will gladly seat you where you prefer. We regret your experience did not meet expectation. We hope you will give us another try in the future. Thank you.
Great cheese, wine, and steak!
Food was really good. We ordered a steak and the spatzle. They had great drinks and cocktails as well. The one problem was the service. It was terribly slow and our waiter never refilled our water nor came for our bill or cleared our plates. The hostess saw us and helped clear the table and then got us the bill after we had to ask. On addition we came for happy hour yet the waiter didn't apply happy hour prices to our drinks. So...I wish I could give it better marks because the food was great. Service was just terrible. At least the hostess was gracious and conscientious.
Hey there Erik! We thank you for your review and hope that your next trip to see us is one which reflects our quality the entire way through. We can assure you that the server issue is being looked into and certainly will be remedied. Hope to see you soon!
Made a 10pm reservation for a friends birthday party. We showed up and they told us the kitchen has closed and they would not seat us. Huge let down and very unprofessional.
Hi Anonymous! I am so sorry this happened. I will look into this and get back to you privately. Thank you.
visited many times. this time green salad was excellent, hanger steak with fingerling potatoes was great, scallop risotto was mixed - scallops were good but risotto was not fully cooked.
We stopped in early on a hot day and they were accommodating for an early dinner arrival and put us at our table for almost an hour before our reservation where we had drinks and some warm olives. Our dinner was excellent. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and my wife had the rack of lamp with four outstanding chops. We finished off with a divine flour-less chocolate cake and coffee. Service is as good as it gets.
My wife and I missed out on 23 Hoyt's burger week, but were able to try their "build" thanks to our kind waitress who guided us to their main menu. We ordered a Lewis and Clark Cocktail and a glass of their house Pinot Grigio, both satisfying recommendations. When the burgers came out they were cooked at a perfect medium, fries were crispy and hot. It was busy here but we never felt ignored. We enjoyed our time.
Came back after a trip here last week for Burger week, which is what this review is actually about. We just walked in that day so I didn't get a chance to say thank you on the world wide web! I get there with a pretty big group, it's totally slammed. Host is running around like a crazy person but they get to us in good time. She was very nice and we had a laugh about the busy day ahead. We sat, ordered, received our burgers in like LITERALLY 4 minutes. It was an assmbly line! The whole place was packed so we didn't get a whole lot of extra time with our server but honestly we saw that every moment he DID have, he was checking in. Very very packed in there. Burgers were scrumptious, beer was flowing, and we enjoyed our real estate while we had it. The line was out the door and around the corner and the people next to us were verrrrry rude about the "wait for a table" so we scolded them and left. Lol! Don't mess with our fav place! Thank you to Rustin for doing a great job with our table and having angelic patience with theirs haha
Pretty bad service + Raw meat + Recycle food from a different table, so sad this was or the first time in this place but never returning
Hello CarolinaH! Thanks for your review. Rare or raw? You visited us during Burger Week which was overwhelming for the restaurant and did, in fact, not have us at our best in controlling the customer experience. We apologize you were affected. I am not sure what your are referring to about "Recycled food" please let us know. We can assure you that you are mistaken as to what you think you saw. It may be that food was mistakenly placed on the wrong customer's table and removed. Recycled?! Nope.
We got a good table on a busy night. Service was initially good then waited way too long to place the order and when it came (burgers) they were way undercooked. So not a good experience. Generally we expect better from 23 Hoyt!
Celebrate birthday before Timber game. Took forever to order and get food. Drinks very slow and out of everything we wanted at bar.
With all the fabulous selections of restaurants in PDX I doubt if I will dine at 23 Hoyt again.
The line was out the door and we waited to let them know we had a reservation. We waited for a moment as we were told they were running a bit behind on reservations. Not a big deal, then a different hostess came up and picked the name off the walk in list (the couple just came in) and sat them in front of us. The staff had no real handle on the situation. Once we were seated it took 4 minutes to even get a menu and be greeted. They took our order and we got apps and mains. They brought all the food at the same time.
The brushetta was burned and so wet the bread was falling apart. The onion rings were very good and burger was ok. In total we were seated and at our table for an hour and ten minutes. We saw our waiter a total of 3 times. Once to get our food. Once to deliver it. Once to get our check. Overall, a terrible experience.
There was some burger event going on and even though my team had a reservation, staff was extremely stretched out. Only half of the table was asked if they wanted drinks re-filled. One member in our party had to wait 1 full hour for a drink. Pasta was overcooked. Service was extremely slow.
