We were served our appetizers and then told the kitchen had to close for two hours because the health inspector arrived. Very odd. We had a show and couldn’t wait two hours so we left without enough time to get food somewhere else. Took too long for them to let us know and to get our check after that. The host said it happens once a year and they can’t control it, then the waiter said it happens twice a year so it was all very strange. Usually a delicious meal and great service but not this time. Was really looking forward to a special date night celebration that was ruined.
21 is a classic restaurant.....veteran employees serve classic American food. Most people there at lunch were expense account business executives, but nevertheless, its worth your while to go.
Try the Baked Alaska for dessert......fantastic.
Best food and service in years. This is a must for any foodie. Ask to sit with John Tello

'21' is always such a delight. Great food and exceptional service.
Hi Henry, Thank you for giving your feedback about your experience at 21. We look forward to having you dine with us again in the near future.
Lots of expensive good restaurants in Manhattan. Few that you actually can’t wait to return to. Excellent lunch.
Hi, Thank you for giving your feedback about your experience at 21. We look forward to having you dine with us again in the near future.
We were entertaining business associates and your staff made it a magical evening.
Hi Mary, Thank you for giving your feedback about your experience at 21. We look forward to having you dine with us again in the near future.
I was expecting a mediocre experience considering the 21 club has been around for so long and doesn’t seem to be in a native New Yorker’s top 10 list for restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised with the Prix Fix and the service made the dining experience pleasurable.
It was really lovely. The service was impeccable and of course it’s an iconic NY restaurant so the overall vibe is unique and special.
Special Anniversary dinner with my wife while in Manhattan from central Florida. Could not have been more pleased. The service and meals and dessert and drinks were amazing and they added in a special dessert for our anniversary which made it all the more special.
Unwelcoming sloppy reception at door, set the tone on a low level for the evening. The concierge recovered professionally and it went up from there. Not acceptable for an establishment of that level.
Crab cake and escargots starters very good. Mains quite average. Our experience was let down mostly by the failure of the sommelier and waiting staff to coordinate the arrival of food and wine at same time, meaning the starters had to go back for quite a while. Secondly, there was an unfortunate shower of dust from the overhead display of memorabilia which was quite off-putting when about to eat! Overall, we left feeling we could have have a better evening for the price elsewhere.
I was super excited about this restaurant. I travel to NYC for work and we love to try different places. We are certainly foodies. The menu looked amazing. We were not at all disappointed in the food -- the filet was great and the whipped potatoes were buttery and smooth. My husband's sea bass was amazing too. What were were disappointed in was the service. My husband and I are young - but we love going to nice places. We literally plan our vacations around food. We felt almost like the staff was not paying as close attention to us as the other 'richer' or 'older' looking guests. It certainly was a turn off. I felt almost like I was annoying the waiter when we wanted help. I think our waiter tended to our neighboring table 4x more than he did ours. Really a disappointment when you are dropping some serious cash on not just a meal, but an experience.
Great spot for a celebratory meal in an iconic location
Nice location, attentive service, great cocktail and mosel wine. My husband came with tie but no jacket, so he was furnished one.
We opted for the pre theater menu. Appetisers were very tasty and well presented, my husband had the smoked salmon while I ordered the pork belly.
For entree, my husband chose the cod and I had the basmati veal which was served in chunks and was very tough and bland.
I didn't enjoy the main course. Perhaps the ala carte would have been a better fare.
Ambiance is nice, although it's quite hot inside.
Definitely a solid ‘Old New York’ experience. Feels super WASPy, and the menu is classic American steakhouse standards. I wish there were a few vegetarian entrees, but places like this rarely modernize their menus. Service was a little laissez faire, but overall a decent evening. In the future, I’d probably just go for drinks.
The absolute best Branzino I have ever had. Delicious. Beautifully prepared. A great place for a pre-theatre dinner. A unique setting !
Atomosphere, ambiance, and care evident at all service touch points during the evening. My wife and I had a really enjoyable time.
I used to feel it was special to eat at this restaurant. I no longer feel that way. Tables too close, food average, service poor.
WE LOVE THE PACE GREAT FOOD. GREAT SERVICE CANT WAIT TO GO BACK
Exceptional service and high quality food. Restaurant got us in and out in plenty of time to make it to the theater for an evening play.
It has been some time since I was at the 21 Club. What a treat! Definitely a venue I must return to again sooner as opposed to later. Food was outstanding. The crab cakes were in the top ten I've ever had and I have had crab cakes at literally hundreds of restaurants. The chicken paillard was the best I have ever had. Just delicious!
Having read positive reviews and also being attracted by the history of the place, we booked 21 Club from the UK for Monday night. We had a warm welcome from everyone: the coat check lady, the doorman and the Head Waiter, who gave us a great table. As a teacher of English Literature I was thrilled to be seated at Steinbeck’s table! Our waiter gave us helpful information about the menu and we chose accordingly. The food did not disappoint. We had a mixture of fish and meat dishes and all were delicious. The baked Alaska is something I haven’t had in years and it was sheer gluttony that I ordered it but I’m glad I did!
We had a booking at a different restaurant for the next night but we’d enjoyed 21 Club so much that we went back there instead. (Note: we DID cancel the other booking!) The staff at 21 Club recognised us and seemed genuinely pleased that we had had such a good time we returned. Once again, food and ambience were fabulous. We would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.
PS. The wine list is very reasonably priced.
A classic, classy, restaurant with so much history. Wait staff very attentive and happy to share stories of the history of the restaurant. The food and drinks were very good, very expensive, but you’re paying for the entire experience.
Monday Presidents’ Day. The place was empty. Menu at the bar quite limited. I suppose the price is to be expected for a famous traditional midtown watering hole. Excellent wine.
The service was excellent from the time we entered the restaurant. We had to wait about 10 minutes for our table ( not a problem) but we were offered a seat while we waited and a menu to order drinks.
The waiters were attentive without being pushy and the food was excellent.
Thank you
Excellent food and excellent atmosphere !
Valentines date
Exceeded even our grand expectations. The filet was one of the best steaks I've had, and the chicken hash lived up to the hype. Service was top-notch. By dumb luck, we ended up sitting next to a wonderful couple visiting from Cleveland, who gave us a primer on the place's history (Humphrey Bogart was engaged at their table!). Highly, highly recommended.
Always a genuine and unique treat.
It’s an institution, is chic, it’s elegant, it’s classic, it’s a must! Everything was excellent. Food, service, ambiance, people. They have also a bar, and like a lounge. But the best it’s the dining room.
We had turbot and foie grass, really good. The wine list is huge and really excellent. We love this place.
Iconic! Old style!
Simply the best!
Such a great place to visit, food is always great and the staff are so friendly.
As usual, the food and service were excellent. We had royal caviar, ceasar and rib eye for two. Italian wine was perfect.
Thank you.
We originally had reservations for Thursday but were not allowed to stay since one of the ladies in our group was wearing jeans. Aaron told us that “this is a fine dining restaurant and no jeans allowed.” We asked to sit in the bar and he said NO JEANS anywhere. Tonight we returned and a lady sitting next to us in the restaurant was wearing jeans, also a man in the bar. When I pointed it out to him, he apologized, but were nonchalant about it. The rules should be the same for everyone. It was extremely upsetting and embarrassing!
The dining staff saved the experience after a dismissive experience by the host. Upon reaching the desk, the host, after seeing me, also noticed a previous co-worker, and decided to start small talk with her instead. He then went to another co-worker and introduced him to the young lady, while I stand there incredulously as they continue their conversation in front of me. I asked for assistance, and without apology, the host quickly asked for my reservation name, instructed me to take a seat, and promptly returned his previous conversation.
Although the host was dismissive, fortunately the dining staff was extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and timely. Wine selection was excellent and the som was engaging. The meal was exquisite (truffle mac however, next time we hope professional courtesy starts from the host salutation, and not until being seated.
One of the nicest meals you can have in Manhattan
Lovely dinner with my daughter. Fabulous service!!!!
This was our fifth trip to the restaurant. The first two were excellent; the next three disappointing. This last time nothing was particularly good, except the wine.
Just great
