The food was probably the best we had on our trip, and the service could not have been more friendly or speedy. The meatloaf and salmon was amazingly good, and the cheesecake and brownie were perfect ways to end the meal. Oh, and I took a picture of the cocktail menu because they were THAT good and inventive.
Overall the restaurant has potential. Service was a major let down (I'm being polite). We waited over 20 minutes for the first round of drinks. The restaurant / bar was not crowded. The group finished half the appetizers before the remaining appetizers showed up. We ordered 2nd round of drinks and after 20 more minutes, I called the manager over to check on the drinks. We received the drinks & manager said they were complimentary. The bill was paid 50/50 using 2 credit cards. Both cards were charged twice?
The restaurant needs to deal with the service issues, otherwise it will not succeed. If the restaurant was short staffed on Saturday night - we should have been advised. We would have understood.
I hope the restaurant addresses the problems with service. Our waitress was very pleasant, had many great suggestions and seemed on her game that night. I'm not sure what happened - but I hope we never experience the problems again.
Food was excellent.
Wanted a nice place close to The Belk Theater for a good dinner before a show.
We'll be back.......
Our apps were amazing - the deviled eggs with oysters, side of brussels sprouts, and fried green tomatoes were all outstanding! but the entrees were just eh. the nashville hot chicken was very dry and the mac and cheese was lukewarm and not very good. They had run out of all but two desserts - creme brulee and rice pudding. the creme brulee was good, but the rice pudding was cold and gross. We were pretty disappointed in general. The cocktails were very good though! Maybe they should stick with apps and cocktails.
Our first experience at 204. We headed her before a play next door. We had an 11:30 reservation and were promptly seated. Our waiter was super nice, but had way too many tables and his service was extremely slow. The food was great. Split plate was split. Brunch menu had several options for everyone to choose from. I left my credit card and they used open table to call my cell to retrieve it! Fantastic! I would definitely come back. Consider hiring more staff.
The ambiance here is very nice. It looks like a trendy up-scale place. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive and the cocktail selection is unique. The food is sub-standard. They were out of Fried Green Tomatoes which was unfortunate but I suppose understandable because of restaurant week. We opted for the fried shrimp - they were very plain, nothing special at all. We ordered the mahi with crab and rice. It was not completely hot and the flavor was also very plain. There was no vegetable serviced with the entree- only rice with crab meat mixed in. For a $30 entree, it was very small, plain, and unexciting. The quinoa risotto had good flavor but it was literally a big bowl of quinoa with no substantial vegetables but instead very tiny chunks of vegetables. The waitress offered to add protein, which would have been a much better choice in hindsight.
There was a large family who was seated next to us with screaming children. That really threw off the experience, as well, but not necessarily the fault of the restaurant.
Overall, I was underwhelmed with the meal and overall experience.
I’ve been for lunch many times and been very pleased, but was very disappointed with dinner. The hostess was poorly organized and sat us at wrong table and then refused to move us. Food was mediocre. Would recommend,
It was vibrant yet quaint excellent experience.
Great stop on the way to the theater. Tey the hot
Chicken sliders:-). Charcuteri plate is huge. Service was good even in the middle of the hot mess that is restaunt week.
We went for restaurant week. It too over 35 minutes to get our salads and another 45 minutes after that to get our entrees. The food was bland and we had to get dessert to go since the service was so slow.
Dry chicken, poor mac and cheese and very noisy.
Our waitress was the only thing enjoyable about the evening.
Not worth the return trip.
Visited 204 N. Tryon during restaurant week. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess and seated immediately. Loved our table near tje bar. Paul was a very attentive and friendly server. Also liked the runner who brought our food. Overall, a very positive dining experience. We will come back and try brunch.
Nice place for a southern inspired menu. Laura, our server did a great job and took very good care of us. Would come back next time we are Uptown.
The food and service was fantastic. My wife and son really enjoyed the Nashville Hot Chicken. The salmon and beets that I had were superb.
This place was great. Went with my wife and some friends. For apps I would say get the deviled eggs or the fried green tomatoes. Both were amazing. For entree get the flat iron steak or fried chicken. And dessert the cheesecake.
It took a while for someone to wait on us. It was busy but seemed like everyone else was waited on in a timely manner. Food was pretty good (recommend the deviled eggs) but I thought the Hot Nashville chicken a little dry. My husband said the chicken salad sandwich was good.
We visited last Saturday night to celebrate my daughter’s 24th birthday. The bar tender came over and recommended a special bourbon for my husband, which was wonderful! There were 4 in our party and we all enjoyed one of the restaurant week meals. Each one was delicious! Our server, Mary, was very attentive and efficient. Her smile and easy-going attitude made our experience perfect! We’ll be back for sure!!
The food was decent, the cocktails were excellent, the ambiance was cozy but the sevice was terrible. So bad that we will not go back. It was not busy yet it took 10 minutes to be greeted and get Water. We told our server of a food allergy for a member of our party and she could care less. She refused to check w the kitchen. So needless to say her food arrived with questionable ingredients (dairy). We asked again and the response was (blink, blink) well I don’t think sooooooo. But who knows!? Giggle giggle. And of course we were charged for her meal.
The backless chairs at the high top tables are not comfortable. The seat is small and very hard. The seats also are not good for ladies in dresses. Consider replacing the chair for more comfort.
We throughly enjoyed our dinner! It was the perfect place for us to celebrate our 3 year anniversary. The decorations were awesome, service was super friendly, and the meat loaf was delicious. I’ve already recommended 204 North Kitchen to friends and family.
I felt like the cocktail selection was excellent and the menu was approachable as well as delicious! I highly recommend the Deviled Eggs, Pork Tenderloin, and Brussel Sprouts! For drinks, the Ballantyne cocktail was tasty and refreshing!
Great service and food but the only options for seating included hard, small metal chairs without cushions or backless metal chairs at high tables. Granted, a hot spot for the bar but they should also consider the comfort of their diners looking for a good meal with comfort.
It was just ok, literally nothing stood out about anything. Service was a bit slow, salads were probably the highlight of the meal. Entrees were pretty blah and one was highly oversalted.
Service was terrible. We had to wait for a long time for drinks to order dinner. They advertised a special Sunday dinner but they were our of items early in the evening. We had a 6:30pm reservation. Food was very good but service was bad.
Great place for brunch. Hoping they'll continue to expand their menu.
Not sure how I have missed this place. This is our new favorite spot in uptown!
Excellent food, service and vibe! Very tasty tuna with country ham appetizer and shrimp and grits main course!
Food was nothing special and for the price it should have been special. Took forever to get a drink. Not impressed. Shrimp in the shrimp and grits was tough, over cooked.
Great food and service
We made reservations on OpenTable. When we arrived the restaurant was half full with lots of visible seating. The hostess brought us to a high-top table in the back by the bar with stools for seats. We asked if we could sit at one of the open tables and were told that they were all reserved.
There were already water glasses on our table as if they were poured for someone else who just left. There was a very odd feel. As we waited and were not greeted, by any wait staff, we decided to cut our losses early and leave.
It did not bother the staff in the least. They are directly across the street from Belk Theater and there was a play that night, so I guess they figured they could leave the water for the next couple who arrived.
They should not take reservations for bar seating without disclosing the seat location. Happily we found another restaurant in the area with an “open table” but we couldn’t change our reservations on the app due to app limitations. Then the Restaurant marked us as a no show for the reservation (oh no they didn’t, yep they did!).
I couldn’t not review the food, so I gave that 3stars, although I have not eaten there and likely never will.
Did not have enough staff for a pleasant experience. Our waitress was great but she had too many tables to be responsive. Felt very rushed trying to get to theater.
Alicia was awesome and the food and drinks are on point!
We wanted a place with a fun brunch menu. 204 gave us plenty of options on the menu for lunch and brunch on Saturday morning. Our service was great, the atmosphere was nice, everything was clean, and the fruit side was a great value. I can find wait to go back and try the 204 burger next time.
We just moved to Charlotte and we will be back!
Good food and service
Went for their 2nd annual sip sip rosé event for national rosé day. They ran out of rosé at 1:30pm. The deviled eggs read as chopped oysters atop the egg with a Bloody Mary sauce, but they came out whole atop. The Bloody Mary sauce was hot sauce. Also, my avocado skillet, was a lack-luster wannabe shakshuka. I’ll be back to try the bar, but I was very underwhelmed at the food menu.
We booked because it is National Rose Day and 204 North was having a Rose Brunch. There were 4 specialty drinks on the menu and 3 of 4 included blackberries, which I love. When my drink was delivered, no blackberries and our server said the manager went to get them. After one hour, no dice. I very clearly stated that I’d ordered the cocktail because of the ingredients. When the bill came, the drink was still on the bill. No need to say more.
Service was poor even other than the berry fiasco, plus the food only meh. We will not return.
Nice location and atmosphere. Calamari over cooked and very firm. Light pours on drinks. Meat loaf was great. Chicken crust was hard and detached however chicken meat was plump and tastier.
Out first visit. The food and service were very good. We had multiple appetizers- enjoyed them all. We’ll go back for meals, for sure!
Wonderful experience. Great atmosphere and service.
