The food is amazing and for the location quite affordable
Great little place. Happy hour where drinks are reasonable. Food was well priced and delicious. I am back home tonight and can't stop thinking about the delicious lobster rolls. Pricey but wonderful.
Drafty and cold. Slow service. We ordered their feature, "monkey bread". It was hard and not fresh. They serve it with a small container of caramel sauce. The sauce was cold and so hard that it could not be poured out of the container. Sweet potato hash was tasty.
Good food and service. A bit louder than I would have liked but a good option if you are in the area.
It was small and cozy. The service was great and so was the food! I felt “tucked in”. The only downside was that it was a cold night and we sat by the window. They brought us a heater! We
Wonderful service - they went above and beyond for my friends birthday dinner! Food was incredible, drinks were never empty and our waitress, Julia, is the best! 20 E is the spot for all nice dinners out when you’re looking to treat yourself a little bit!
We live in the neighborhood and will definitely be back to try happy hour and dinner and the outdoor space.
Very slow service and extreme noise for a Thursday early evening?
Great place to grab brunch. The food is amazing!
Great American style breakfast.
I made a reservation for Christmas Day. The food was wonderful. The service was slow as our waiter was also bartending. Restaurant was understaffed and our waiter wasn't very pleasant.
Cozy and quaint. Nice holiday decor! The brunch was very good.
Very quaint, clean, classy little restaurant. On the side of a hotel lobby, yet very quiet and fancy for brunch. Went here for brunch before a bridal dress shopping appointment and the elegance of the place was absolutely perfect.
We moved in to the neighborhood a few months ago and love this place -- a real neighborhood gem!
After conference dinner. Good way to relax
Good service and reasonable price
Our go to neighborhood place..great for sharing..friendly wait staff
20 East never disappoints. It's my go-to place for simple but elegant food, comfortable seating, and a noise level suitable for adults enjoying a quiet conversation.
The restaurant/bar is located in a boutique hotel. I would imagine that it is harder to manage the crowd in this atmosphere vs a traditional restaurant.
That being said, we arrived for our 7pm reservation and were told that the table was not ready. We were invited to the bar where they would comp us on drinks while we waited. But there were no seats in the bar...the host and the hostess were incredible. They apologized profusely and gave us the first table available. I think there was a wedding party that descended on the bar unexpectedly.
When we sat down, our wait person, Natalie, told us that our first drinks were on the house. We ordered tuna/guacamole appetizer which was delicious. We had questions about some of the dishes. Natalie brought out the chef who answered all...and very graciously.
We are neighborhood people...would definitely try again. Will try again Sunday-Thursday.
Compliments to the staff who navigated the crowd as well as possible.
Just like the "old " days !! I ALWAYS have the salt and pepper shrimp..........always. The last time it was barely warm and was quite soggy. Two nights ago it was perfect again. Temperature was nice and hot and crust was wonderfully crispy. Our server, Ellen, was great and even brought the extra sauce I had requested. Didn't even need it because it was perfect as served. We also tried the hummus and pita appetizer we hadn't had before. It was outstanding. Hummus was creamy and flavorful and pita was perfect..warm and flavorful.
20 East never disappoints. My go-to place in the Gold Coast / Streeterville orbit. Excellent value.
Great neighborhood spot. Waitress was attentive and the manager is very professional.
Manager brought a much appreciated heater to the table when the one near us wasn't working. Husband's french beef was wonderful. My salt and pepper shrimp was fine, but not as good as usual. Wasn't crispy like past orders and arrived barely warm. Will certainly try it again as this is the first time it's been below par.
Great neighborhood place, elegant but not stuffy. Comfortable and reasonably quiet.
This comfy restaurant is great, the menu is diverse and not overwhelming, ordering several small plates makes it fun and relaxing, the staff very attentive, nice outdoor area, or seating near the open door is great. Great find, when in the neighborhood a great place to relax and enjoy the food.
I ordered a cheeseburger, medium rare. It was 1/2 thick, and burnt.
We love everything about 20E except the music...loud banging rap music which is not conducive to the atmosphere.
This was our first time here and it was a gorgeous day, so we got a table outside. Pro: the drinks- Bloody Mary and Defibrillator were on point. Cons: slow service! From the moment of ordering a drink, it took 25 mins to get my Bloody Mary and an additional 8-10 mins to get the second drink. It was never explained why, but that “drinks are taking a little longer today”. When it came to food, we were given two menus, but they didn’t initially explain that all items on “all day menu” weren’t available. Only 4 select items were, so I had to change my original choice. I opted for the Cobb Salad, while my SO chose the All american breakfast. Food-wise, we were happy. However. not sure we would give the place a a 2nd chance unless we had two hours to spend (waste) and weren’t in a hurry to drink or eat. The waitress was nice and we tipped as we normally would for great service, but when things are taking so long, you should check-in versus ignore the table.
Excellent food, ambience, service. Very authentic yet familiar Chicago attitude.
Delicious food served beautifully!
Stevie was a great server as always! we go back to see Stevie and enjoy the outside patio. the burger is good but for the price it should be a la carte
We sat outside and it was the perfect weather to do so. We ordered the large format moscow mule, and it was definitely worth the price for how much drink you get. The smoked salmon starter was delicious! Our entrees, cheeseburger and lobster roll, were also extremely tasty. Our only issue was the service. We didn't think the waitress was being that attentive to our table/the tables around us, and we often waited 15-20 mins for her to come back around. Overall, it was a nice date night!
Eggs Benedict egg yolk was hard. Service was up and down. Outdoor seating was great.
Sit outside for lunch when the weather is nice - nice relatively quiet street for Chicago. Service is excellent and lunch menu is creative. Good wine options by the glass.
We came here for brunch after arriving to Chicago & checking into our (different) hotel. Our waitress was excellent & we appreciated the little things like informing us our cappuccinos would take a bit longer than usual bc of a machine issue, helping with recommendations, etc. Both my husband & I’s meals were excellent. Our daughter’s pancakes were solidly good. I found the cappuccinos to be a bit small & bitter. My husband found the temp to be low with his but I was fine with mine. My husband’s mimosa was expensive at $11 but was the true pale yellow a mimosa should be. Enjoyed the ambiance & the comfortable dining chairs. We will definitely be back for brunch next time we’re in town.
Sat on the patio on a lovely night. Stevie was our waitress and was excellent. Jonathan, the new bartender, made a terrific vodka gimlet......the drink by which I judge bartenders. My husband's cheeseburger was excellent and I loved the salt and pepper shrimp. It's listed as a starter, but was more than enough as my entree.
The service needs to be improved...the last 2 visits have not been at the level it was when they first opened
The food quantity has also changed...
The happy hour choices are gone except for some drunks
Great place to sit and enjoy quiet conversation
Very good service. The food and drinks were tasty. Menu is somewhat limited.
Lovely brunch. The monkey bread was amazing. Everything we ordered was great.
