We love everything about 20E except the music...loud banging rap music which is not conducive to the atmosphere.
This was our first time here and it was a gorgeous day, so we got a table outside. Pro: the drinks- Bloody Mary and Defibrillator were on point. Cons: slow service! From the moment of ordering a drink, it took 25 mins to get my Bloody Mary and an additional 8-10 mins to get the second drink. It was never explained why, but that “drinks are taking a little longer today”. When it came to food, we were given two menus, but they didn’t initially explain that all items on “all day menu” weren’t available. Only 4 select items were, so I had to change my original choice. I opted for the Cobb Salad, while my SO chose the All american breakfast. Food-wise, we were happy. However. not sure we would give the place a a 2nd chance unless we had two hours to spend (waste) and weren’t in a hurry to drink or eat. The waitress was nice and we tipped as we normally would for great service, but when things are taking so long, you should check-in versus ignore the table.
Excellent food, ambience, service. Very authentic yet familiar Chicago attitude.
Delicious food served beautifully!
Stevie was a great server as always! we go back to see Stevie and enjoy the outside patio. the burger is good but for the price it should be a la carte
We sat outside and it was the perfect weather to do so. We ordered the large format moscow mule, and it was definitely worth the price for how much drink you get. The smoked salmon starter was delicious! Our entrees, cheeseburger and lobster roll, were also extremely tasty. Our only issue was the service. We didn't think the waitress was being that attentive to our table/the tables around us, and we often waited 15-20 mins for her to come back around. Overall, it was a nice date night!
Eggs Benedict egg yolk was hard. Service was up and down. Outdoor seating was great.
Sit outside for lunch when the weather is nice - nice relatively quiet street for Chicago. Service is excellent and lunch menu is creative. Good wine options by the glass.
We came here for brunch after arriving to Chicago & checking into our (different) hotel. Our waitress was excellent & we appreciated the little things like informing us our cappuccinos would take a bit longer than usual bc of a machine issue, helping with recommendations, etc. Both my husband & I’s meals were excellent. Our daughter’s pancakes were solidly good. I found the cappuccinos to be a bit small & bitter. My husband found the temp to be low with his but I was fine with mine. My husband’s mimosa was expensive at $11 but was the true pale yellow a mimosa should be. Enjoyed the ambiance & the comfortable dining chairs. We will definitely be back for brunch next time we’re in town.
Sat on the patio on a lovely night. Stevie was our waitress and was excellent. Jonathan, the new bartender, made a terrific vodka gimlet......the drink by which I judge bartenders. My husband's cheeseburger was excellent and I loved the salt and pepper shrimp. It's listed as a starter, but was more than enough as my entree.
The service needs to be improved...the last 2 visits have not been at the level it was when they first opened
The food quantity has also changed...
The happy hour choices are gone except for some drunks
Great place to sit and enjoy quiet conversation
Very good service. The food and drinks were tasty. Menu is somewhat limited.
Lovely brunch. The monkey bread was amazing. Everything we ordered was great.
Went for breakfast. Food was too heavy. Server seemed disinterested. Maybe lunch and dinner are better.
We all enjoyed our menu choices and the outdoor dining. We'll be back!
Really wonderful food. Just what we needed after a whirlwind weekend.
Great brunch, nice spot in river north!
Service and food was excellent.... just really have a problem when a restaurant charges for bread!!
Contemporary atmosphere without the noise 😍. My friend and I are “of a certain age” and while some of the newer restaurants are nice and have great food, you can’t hear yourself talk!
20 East has lovely decor, a variety of comfortable seating both at tables and the bar, good food and great service! Our waitress, Sandy, was pleasantly accommodating when we asked if the music could be turned down a tad, and also understanding of our slow paced dining. And then the manager Brian stopped by for what turned into a lengthy chat.
The food was yummy, and the tab didn’t break the bank. All in all, hard to beat.
We also leaned from Brian about the monthly “Tastes of the World” series (see website for details), along with room across the hall for larger groups.
We will definitely be back...many times!
I love this place. It's an elegant casual restaurant for grownups: stylish setting, comfortable seating, low noise level, attentive but unobtrusive service, and great food at a reasonable price.
My go to place.. fantastic.. Great value for happy hour. The humus and salmon boards are my favorite.. the Cobb salad is outstanding..
You can actually have a conversation here. Service is wonderful.
My 3rd time here... dined with colleagues who were there for the 1st time.. all of us loved our food, service and ambiance... happy to recommend..
The food and ambiance are very good however the service leaves a great deal to be desired. It took forever for the server to take our order and then she brought the appetizer with the entrees - we sent the entrees back as this was clearly not how we wanted to have our meal. We ordered an appetizer for a reason! One person ordered a glass of wine midway in the meal and the server had to be reminded twice about the order. When it was time for desert, we were given one menu and the server said well you can share. We asked for individual menus.
Not real impressed with the service to say the least!
Cute decor, more of a lounge than restaurant though. Server had attitude; he ordered wrong pasta for my friend, then when brought right one, it was undercooked. My chicken was fine. This Hotel's restaurants seem to be jinxed. I've been to 3 different ones there.
Lovely place. Kitchen needs to work on getting courses out in timely fashion. Kitchen needs to make sure food is hot when served. Servers tried their best, don't think it's on them.
Nice outside tables
Service should be better and beer colder
But burgers are worth it
Their outdoor, sidewalk cafe is delightful. It is relaxing and beautiful. Previously I was there for lunch and had a delicious, Cobb salad that I would order again. I returned for brunch and was disappointed in their menu and food. I would only return because it is lovely
Worst service ever
I tried it, despite other negative service comments, because it's in a great neighborhood spot for outdoor dining. Alas, once again the 6th or is it 7th restaurant in a few years wastes this great spot.
Initially thought would be meeting all parties - instead had to leave quick. Server understood took care of us promptly once informed. More than adequate scotch selection.
Service was poor.
We sat outside and were confronted by a man who was threatening and belligerent and was passing by on the sidewalk The management was aware but did not intervene. They apologized afterward. I will not go back even though it is in my neighborhood.
As we waited for our table to be set, another employee seated a woman who walked up after us at the table we were waiting for. When we were finally seated at another table, it took the waitress almost 10 minutes to greet us and provide menus. The service was so horrendous the entire evening that it was like a bad reality show. The waitperson kept apologizing for her delays and then continued them. Dishes were brought with no serving utensils. They were asked for and never brought. A bottle of wine was ordered and we were one glass short which took another five minutes. It was ridiculous.
The food was delicious. We were pleasantly surprised. It's good to find somewhere nice for lunch where you have the option to sit outside.
The service was terrible and the food was very bland. Nothing special.
Looks like they are working through some staffing kinks. We had a good meal but the service was really slow. Manager ended up comping the whole meal, which was certainly unnecessary and very appreciated.
Like the restaurant but as a neighborhood place for me I want to LOVE the restaurant. It's not there yet. Went with a friend on a vey hot, humid, rainy night. The restaurant was so hot because they refused to keep the service door for the outside space closed. I asked if they could turn up the AC, which they did, but the hot, humid air from outside was just too much. It greatly affected out enjoyment of the experience.
Tony as fabulous! Knows the menu like the back of his hand. Everything he suggested we loved. Can't wait to return.
Sarah the manager was so nice and personable, Jesse at the bar was wonder and Jess is always great.
We love you in our neighborhood.
Super cozy atmosphere, located in the talbot hotel, energetic but not loud and great for people watching.
Food is so incredibly fresh. Drinks are creative and brilliant. Love the smoked salmon board, which we were informed is flown in fresh from the oldest smokehouse in London! Definitely worth ordering! The hummus is a must try, so fresh and full of flavor but not overly garlic. Cobb salad is excellent as well as the melt in your mouth burrata flown in from Italy within 24 hours from being made!!
Can't wait to head back soon for their new brunch menu!
