If you want visitors to fall in love with Chicago, take them to 20 East.
20 East was awesome! I was a little nervous about going here just because we had my 2 year old niece with us and she can be a bit rambunctious. But everyone was so kind about her being there. The food was amazing and the staff was friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend going here!
Great Caesar salad. Loved the half bottle price is wine on Wednesday’s!
Another perfect dinner at 20 East, this time with out of town visitors who were wowed by the roast salmon and brick chicken.
Servers, the people, were outstanding. otherwise it was a good experience.
This is a great neighborhood spot and food is very delicious. But unfortunately service is inconsistent. I visited restaurant recently and everything was excellent, so I decided to book it again on Valentine's day. Also I understand that it is one of the busiest days of the year, but not seeing the server for over 30 minutes is a bit too much. More than that, server did not even come back to present us with the check, we have received it from someone else.
Also restaurant is connected with the Hotel lobby and has no walls. Everytime someone comes in, you get a cold drift from outside. Everyone who was sitting closer to the area had coats on. I understand that this is out of control of the staff, but perhaps having some sort of room separating panels during cold days, might be very helpful.
Overall it is a wonderful place and I will definitely will be back and give service another chance to improve.
Great staff and great food! Will def return
We went for lunch during restaurant week as they had originally posted a lunch menu. We arrived to find out no special lunch menu though they offered us the $36 dinner specials. No thank you. We ordered off the regular lunch menu. The turkey was cold cut turkey sliced thick. The prime rib was lean but no flavor. Overall the service was attentive, the staff friendly but the food was disappointing.
I love Restaurant Week in CHI precisely because it gives me a chance to find spots I wouldn't normally think of when choosing where to dine. 20 East is the Talbott's hotel bar. It has a very chill vibe to it (note: the bartender did say Jan/Feb was the slow time of the year, so mileage may vary).
I'm definitely going to return to try the full bar menu... including their unique takes on certain cocktails!
The most interesting Brussels sprouts I’ve had in a while, pickled cranberries nicely offset the sweetness of the butternut squash. The mussels and spaghetti was delicious and I hope it is added to the standard menu when restaurant week is over.
Restaurant is located in a dog friendly hotel. Apparently the restaurant is also dog friendly! It is a small space with only about 12 tables. When we were there, we were flanked on both sides by dogs. One of those tables actually had 3 gigantic sheepdogs! They were up on the couches (seating) and all over, under and around the table. We counted 5 dogs in the restaurant at one point. My son and husband are very allergic to dogs and became allergic due to all the dander on the cloth seating. There was barking and food all over the floor as people were feeding dogs table scraps. A very unpleasant experience.
Fabulous as always. Managers Mike and Brian always make me feel at home. And the roast salmon is the best in town.
Lovely New Year’s Evening. Recommend a table away from the main entrance - it can get quite cold and occasionally smoke smell from outside.
The service was excellent and if you can have Ellen as your server she is the best! All of the staff members were extremely friendly.
The portions were very small and not worth the price. We were seated right new to the lobby of the hotel and is not separated from the restaurant itself. The service was rushed and the ambiance felt vague.
Truck stop quality. The burger was okay. The brick chicken, may have had 3 ingredients, no fresh herbs, floating in some lemon sauce that may have given in better visual appeal, but didn’t add to its flavor. The truffle pasta was better , but the cheese was not a blend. I should have known that being in a hotel the ratings would not be reliable.
Very good food! We had the spicy shrimp as an appetizer, lobster roll and salad, burger, fries and mac & cheese. Chocolate torte for dessert. The best mac & cheese in a restaurant we've ever had. Was very busy being Xmas time of year and the food took a bit but overall still great service. The only thing we didn't really care for was that because this restaurant is in the Talbot Hotel and the Talbot allows pets, pets were also allowed in the eating area at the restaurant/bar.
Had a lovely time!
Fun. Great atmosphere.
Quiet and sophisticated. Best roast salmon in town.
20 east is a “Cheers” bar except with food. The staff always makes you feel at home.
Good food and good service. Our breakfast was prepared just the way we like it. We highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a really nice place in Chicago that’s open late enough for after theater dinner? 20 East is!
The waitress forgot 2/4 of our food order but what came out was amazing !
We celebrated our anniversary here. The service and ambiance were great. The music played was perfect. The food was delicious. The cauliflower, broccoli, salmon, wine selection and pumpkin cake were outstanding! We will be back!
Fun little lobby restaurant and bar..good food great service Gisel!!
It’s a hotel restaurant so there are a lot of people constantly walking around. The food is great, but it’s just super busy.
Excellent service and food.
Brilliant as always. 20 East is a restaurant for grownups.
Normally I give 5 stars to this restaurant every time I've been there but this time was different. I ate inside with a friend and we enjoyed great food and service until a table of two entered with two dogs. The dogs were running around and playing on the cloth furniture. Although I am a total dog lover I find that this is inconsiderate dog owner behavior. I don't want to be the next customer sitting on that furniture and getting dog hair on my clothes. I also don't want to sit having an adult conversation next to group of wild dogs. The restaurant should be dog friendly with rules. It's not a dog park. The dogs should be on the floor, under the table and unobtrusive.
We just had appetizers - sliders, ahi tuna and mini lobster rolls - all delicious. Cocktails were good as well. We typically don’t like hotel restaurants but, this one is the exception. A bit loud and a small error on our bill but, otherwise great and will return.
An elegant restaurant and bar at the southern edge of Chicago's Gold Coast, 20 East serves reliably excellent food in a calm, comfortable environment well suited to quiet conversation. Menu musts include brick chicken and roast salmon. If the dish you order doesn't come with the sublime charred asparagus, order some on the side. Your table mates will thank you.
Never even dined here. Waited for someone to seat us for 15 and finally decided to say something to one of the servers. After telling her we had a reservation for 20 minutes prior, she said she’d be back in a minute to seat us. Made us wait another 10 minutes and came back saying the only table she had was a shared space. Horrible service and very disappointing.
Absolutely delicious breakfast! We had two of the soft scrambled eggs, one avocado toast and the berries bowl. 20 East is also very comfortable with a nice ambience and friendly staff. Do yourself a favour and eat at least one breakfast if you’re staying at The Talbott - or even if you’re not for that matter!
Once again, an excellent dinner at 20 East. Elegant room, comfortable seating, a noise level suitable for adult conversation, and of course consistently delicious food. Why go anywhere else on the Gold Coast?
Lobster rolls. I didn't try anything else, but the lobster rolls are worth going.
The food is always good and Giselle is my favorite waitress. We sat at a nice table outside
20 East is one of our neighborhood favorites. Staff are always friendly and efficient. Selections are varied and fresh and we can walk over too! Outside seating is one of the best, off a major street, shaded, and comfortable. Try it out. Jake and Elwood Chicago.
Visit was pleasant, service was excellent and the server friendly and efficient.
The breakfast on my day off along with two Mimosas and such friendly and efficient service were wonderful. I love going to 20E because I am always treated so well. Thank you, all.
Sat outdoors. Saw a lot of tourists having a good time. Nice part of Chicago to enjoy the comfortable city vibe on while having Saturday brunch.
