This place was recommended by a native Cuban and she wasn’t wrong. The food is excellent and the service wonderful. The Ropa Vieja is the best I’ve had. Tender and wonderfully flavored as were the congri and sweet plantain.
Btw we split the empanadas and the macitas for appetizer. Both excellent.

This new place in Westfield is the town’s new gem. The excellent presentation of all plates from the avocado salad to the tres leches desert shows their attention to detail and quality. The classic seafood paella my wife and I shared was the perfect portion. The rice was delicious along with the bits of chorizo, scallops, shrimp, calamari, clams and mussels. Can’t wait to go back and try the other Cuban classics like the Ropa Vieja and Cubano sandwich.

Service was excellent. Everything we ordered from apps to dessert was delicious! The owner is kind enough to come around and say hello to everyone. Definitely recommend 1958, and when you do go you have to get the flan. You won't regret it.

Food was okay but it was so loud you almost had to yell to be heard at our table

Given the crowds we see at this restaurant, we expected an excellent meal. It turned out to be very ordinary and disappointing. The food was generally dry and had little taste. My roast pork had obviously been reheated. Parts of it were unchewable. My wife had the paella. The chicken was tough! We do not see why this place is attracting such large crowds. We will not be among them. Another miss for this location.

The food was excellent at this spot. I loved how authentic it was. But the wait was killer. We had reservations but we still had to wait 45 minutes. Nonetheless it was well worth it.

We went here for the first time on Mothers Day. The host/owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was nice and funny. We all enjoyed our meals. The staff was excellent with our two young children. I really look forward to going back.

The menu was interesting, I thought that it was a bit pricey for the amount of food you got, especially the avocado salad, which consisted of avocado, tomatoes and a lot of onions for $11. Of our party of 4 we all had fish dishes which were good but again $24 and up and the portions were on the small side. All good dishes and service was good, we were given a complimentary appetizer of pork to try which was a nice touch.

I have never left a negative review but feel the need to share my experience with others. Came here for a birthday dinner. Not sure if they do not check the reservations made on open table but I indicated it was for a birthday dinner. No mention by them at all. Just went to a birthday lunch today and at least four of the staff wished my friend a happy b day and even a complementary dessert.

That is not my issue here although I just thought I would mention that. The server was very cordial and nice so none of this experience was her fault. I used to live in Miami so I am always looking for a good, authentic restaurant. We typically go to Lydia’s locally but saw so many good reviews so we thought we would give it a try. Food was sub par at best. We ordered two churrascos. Both barely edible. Meat texture was just off, chewy and horrible. My husband ordered the salmon well done. Was still raw in the middle and had no flavor. We didn’t send it back because it did take awhile for the food to come out and he always feels badly sending things back. My daughter ordered the chicken which was the only good dish. Black beans and rice were fine but you can’t mess those up. Decided to try dessert, maybe we could end the meal on a good note. . Ordered tres leches. Was so average my daughter didn’t even eat half. She has never left any tres leches cake on the table. My other daughter ordered a churro. We were all finished with our dessert and coffee before it came out. Took at least 20 minutes. Was not even edible. Costco churros are better.- seriously.

Was so looking forward to a nice meal at a new place and was so disappointed. Would never go back.

I REALLY wanted to like this place, especially because it adds a new cuisine to the town. And the reviews have been so positive and the restaurant so busy, I was excited about finally trying it out. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. The place is loud---but having eaten here many times in its previous incarnation I expected that! The service is excellent; friendly, helpful, appropriately attentive. The food, however, did not match the level of effort of the staff. It started out on a very positive note, with an excellent appetizer of jumbo shrimp in a white wine, garlic-butter sauce. Only complaint I have is that it would have benefited greatly from some bread to soak up the remaining sauce! And the meal ended on a high note as the Tres Leches could not have been tastier. In between those two was the problem. Worst offender was the single chicken offering---a grilled breast marinated with tropical seasonings and topped with caramelized onions. The dish offered no pizzaz as there was no discernible taste of the marinade. Just came across as a grilled chicken breast with onions. It was okay but it could have come from any restaurant as there was no hint of Cuban cuisine outside the side dishes. The Ropa was a better choice but not spectacular. The dish was not very hot and while it was somewhat tasty, there was nothing memorable about it---nothing that caused me to say 'I will be back for this again!'

I will not write this place off just yet. Too many people love it and the owner and staff are earnest and friendly, so I want to go again and try other offerings to see if I can still fall in love!

A group of 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed our dinner on Saturday night. We started with a delicious garlic shrimp appetizer that, for me, was the perfect compliment to my salmon entree that was seasoned and cooked to perfection. We all commented on how nice & tasty the selection of sides were too (you get to choose 2 with your entree). Also, our waiter was a sweetheart - Added bonus to a fabulous night!!!

Dinned on Friday night with my husband and good friend. Decided around noon to try them out and could only get reservations at 5:15, which was good for us, just glad to get in and try it. We started with the shrimp wrapped in bacon and the beef enchiladas. Hubby had shrimp for dinner and my friend and I had the steak. All I can say is each dish was so delicious and spot on for the cuisine. We have had Cuban food several times, at a few different places in this area and this place is, by far, the best. Only downside was I felt rushed. I guess with the early reservation, they probably wanted the table turned faster. All in all, highly recommend, you will not be dissappointed and we will definitely be returning.

The food was authentic and spot on. Shrimp and bacon and croquettas were amazing. The Churrasco con chimichurri was amazing. My friends raved about the rope vieja. Ask for a spoon for the chocolate sauce that goes with the churros. Trust me. I will be back!
