Food was excellent and beautifully presented! Service was lovely - a proper balance of checking in but not too much. Cocktails were crisp and refreshing!
Amazing service & food! Went for brunch & loved it. Would go again without hesitation
Great food and service. Love this patio especially after a visit to the gallery. Nice menu selection.
As a person who dines out a lot and a regular of happy hours all over the city, I was not impressed with the lack of preparations for food demand. Almost half of the menu was sold out at 7:30PM. I would give it to the cocktails. I had the La Frida Margarita and it’s perfectly made.
The service, I find, was very curt. We felt as if we were not welcome at all, especially when we were told to have to leave in 5 mins as the restaurant was already closing.
Fact: they run out of supplies in the kitchen
Fact: they are already closing and we’re still there
Fact: these are just facts
But it’s in the way they communicated it to us, that didn’t sit with me rightly.
A little pricey, but it always worth the price.
Unfortunately, they don’t accept reservations for the patio.
Excellent and huge piece of spinach souffle with very fresh green side salad.
I asked for dressing on the side, but didn't need to, as it too was delicious.
Could have had more spinach in the souffle, but I like eggs, and they were very fresh too.
My Salmon Bowl was the best salad I've had. Really delicious!
Greeting was wonderful, a table was available which was great. Our server seemed relatively new, but was lovely. He was a little inexperienced at wine service (touching glass with bottle etc).
Charcuterie board was odd and overkill. A box worth of Breton crackers, endless pickles, olives, with a few pieces of cheese, with the Brie being very dry. The few pieces of meat were fine, but it was a bit of a mess.
I felt the Salmon tartare had too much going on with too much soy, mesquite etc to let the salmon stand on its own.
The appetizers were so huge, we weren’t informed that the kitchen would be doing last call at a certain time so they fired the mains before we were ready. The server handled it brilliantly and discussed that the kitchen would refire, but it was quite clear that the only thing they did again if at all was the beef tenderloin (which was actually quite nice with a nice reduction). The broccoli was desperately over-roasted, over salted and the mash potatoes were lumpy with an excess of dried herbs (maybe oregano) which made the presence of the mascarpone very hard to detect.
The wine was great. Black Sage Cab at $66. Hard to go wrong.
A bottle of wine, two appetizers and two entrees was about $300 including a 20% tip (our server was very nice and did his best). Not even close to worth it, as dinner at Bishops for example serving similar west coast fare wouldn’t be more, and blows the doors off the quality. Our server was very nice but it was the same price as Hy’s, Bishops, West etc and was subpar at very best overall.
Feel free to reach out if I can be of any more help.
Thanks so much,
Met a friend for lunch and was impressed with my selection, bahn mi crossiant sandwich. Can't wait to return for a happy hour session on the re-furnitured patio.
Such a great patio experience! Superb food and a fabulous atmosphere.
The check in was horrible. Waited in the sun outside for over 10 minutes. The hostess could not find my reservation and then figured out why. My two guests had already been seated. Want med an outside table but to no avail. We sat inside and the service started slow but then our order was taken, fast service with the food and food delicious. DID NOT START OUT VERY NICELY!!!!!
The Bistro 1931 is a wonderful place. The best brunch in Vancouver.
Our brunch was lovely. The classic Benny with the truffles were so delicious!
Last night I finished dinner at 1931 Bistro but the server rejected my OpenTable Dining cheque. I called the 1-800 OpenTable line today and confirmed that all Canadian OpenTable restaurants do not have an Opt-out option, so Dining Cheques must be accepted to process. I don't like the server who made up excuses to reject the cheque. After being a loyal 1931 Bistro customer for few years, I decided not to return anymore.
We ordered from the Happy Hour menu and it the food was terrible, after questioning the server he said "well you ordered from the happy hour". I could have done better at home....
Lovely always enjoy my time here. Staff are very professional & friendly, food comes out quickly and is always so delicious. Perfect ambiance especially on the patio. :)
Art in food. Great preparation display and quality. Good portions and fantastic service. Would recommend
First time here and ordered the Pork Belly Tortillas, Mini Charcuterie Plate, and Miso Cauliflower Bites from the Happy Hour Menu. The food was good, but we were missing the Pea Shoots that are listed as part of the cauliflower dish on the menu. Asked our server about the missing component and her response was "Oh, chef must have just forgotten." So I asked if it was an important part of the dish and she replied, "No, it's really just a garnish. He forgets it all the time." I was quietly thinking what kind of chef forgets how to make his own dish that's carefully spelled out on the menu and was thinking back to the days when a sprig of parsley garnish accompanied most dishes and that it was never mentioned in the description on the menu when the server said, "I can take this back in the kitchen and have chef throw on some pea shoots if you'd like." We declined and tried not to laugh as it does seem a pretentious eatery.
Great food. Great atmo. Friendly, professional servers. And then you can go and enjoy some fantastic art. What more could you ask?!
Good and service! Will come back!
Our server was not really friendly. Everyone else from hostess to food Runner was great.
We came here for our anniversary and could not have been happier with the service, food, and ambiance!
Our server was Iona and she was not very attentive. We ordered the hight tea immediately when seated and arrived 10mins early. We noticed that the server would serve other tables seated after us or ask us what tea we would like before we got a chance to look at the menu- my elderly parents depend on me for translation and don't have data on thier phones then didn't return for a long time. Maybe it was just a busy day. The greeter was great and the other staff would step in to top off our hot water for high tea. Very enjoyable and affordable high tea. Would definitely go back again.
Nice environment & even though we sit inside, still feel fresh air, food & service is good, would like to try their Monday evening
We went for the afternoon tea and we loved it! Would be nice if they could keep offering it!
I went for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend and even though there were a bunch of two top tables open, they sat us right in the very back behind a pillar. When I asked to move they said everything else is for reservations but mine was a reservation as well. So we just walked out and left. Super disappointing
The food was outstanding .. One of the most amazing places
First time to try High tea at 1931 Bistro and everything was very good. Service was friendly and efficient. Very good value. It’s a cafe so noise level was pretty loud but great experience all around.
The High Tea for 2 @ $50 was excellent value...the savoury items were plentiful & well executed. The desserts ( I only had 1 macaron) was delicious! My friend had the rest to go!
Pleasant atmosphere under a tent on the patio. Great food excellent service.
A wonderful place to enjoy Afternoon Tea! I hope 1931 Gallery Bistro will continue to do a High Tea after this special edition. It was perfect!
Went for the high tea for 2. The food was excellent and the high tea set was great value
We went for the special menu high tea and it was wonderful and so pretty! Covid measures continue to keep us feeling safe and relaxed. It was a great value.
My second visit to the 1931 Gallery Bistro. Again excellent food, and the service is relaxed and informal yet attentive. We had an accident with a bottle of water (the bottom separated as we were pouring the first glass and the entire contents spilled across the table) and the serving staff were on the spot and made it better! A great spot for brunch!
The waitress was friendly but she said she would get me a pamphlet/info about museums in the area but she never did.
We arrived at 2:20pm for our 2:30pm reservation but didn’t get our high tea order till 3:10pm and they only allowed as per website a 2hr seating. I was glad I paid for enough time for our parking downtown. Items on the high tea
Aside from the savoury items I don’t know why it would take them 45mins to prep. Tables seated after us got their orders served before us. Was quite disappointing and had to ask for our order twice.
All the savouries & sweets were delicious at the The Floral High Tea.
Great patio location in the middle of downtown with excellent service and tasty food and drink.
