Experience Casual Elegance at 1931 in Cincinnati's Historic Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel

Tucked away in downtown Cincinnati's iconic Hilton Netherland Plaza, the 1931 invites you to dine in sophisticated style. This art deco jewel evokes the glamour of a bygone era with its soaring painted ceilings, marble columns, and Rookwood pottery. While the setting transports you back in time, the cuisine is decidedly modern, with American fare and creative cocktails.

The versatile menu features breakfast classics like fluffy pancakes and savory eggs benedict. Lunch brings soups, salads, and sandwiches, while dinner tempts with dishes like Citrus-Glazed Salmon, Peppercorn-crusted Ribeye, and Pappardelle & Braised Beef Short Rib Ragout.

Whether you're seeking breakfast, lunch, or romantic dinner, the 1931 excellent service ensures a memorable experience. Its proximity to the convention center, theatres, and stadiums is also a convenient pre-event spot for a bite and cocktails.

Expected an upscale restaurant. Had to wait for the receptionist to finish her text before she could seat us. We asked for a wine list as we wanted a nice bottle for our anniversary. They didn’t have one, only wine by the glass. Ordered appetizers, shrimp was old and slimy. Management was great, compted drinks and dessert for inconvenience but left us with a feeling that we wished we had chosen a different restaurant. Server couldn’t have been nicer but she was a bartender not a server. Entres were good.

Great ambiance, food excellent. Unfortunately short staffed, making service longer than usual. Our waiter Carlton was top shelf, made the wait well worth it.

The problem maybe my expectations and my memory of the Omni Netherland Plaza. This place used to be awesome! The best Sunday Brunch in the tri-state area. It now tired, worn-out, dated, stale, etc. The food and the ambiance are just fair; the place is no longer special!

We did appetizers (sliders, bisque) and salad, so not the full experience, but what we had was really great, and the service was super. And, of course, the ambience was what you'd expect from an art deco hotel - just fun! I'm quite puzzled by their OpenTable reservation presence -- the main dining room showed no reservation times available at 7:00 PM on a Sunday (we reserved in the bar), but when we got there, the place was pretty close to empty. That's the only reason I dinged the review.

From previous visits at.the Orchid Room food quality has declined some. Not the variety we had in past. Service was excellent otherwise. I will return and hope food quality and variety improves.

This was so much better than last year. Food was really good this time and they didn’t run out of anything. Only suggestion would be to add a little more quality to the Dessert table. There were plenty of options, but they looked better than they tasted. Enjoyed ourselves very much and will return next year.

For the cost of the meal the food was less mot even average. When you spend over $800 for 7 people you expect the food to be outstanding. The vegetables were hard and some could not even be cut. The meat was tough and the carvers were actually rude. All food that was supposed to warm was cold. Definitely disappointed. The last time we went there it was much better. Definitely has gone downhill. Will not be back, the cost is ridiculous. However the server and host were great.

It was everything I hoped it would be! I was a big fan of “Orchids” before the pandemic. I went to the special brunches numerous times and enjoyed each and every single one. Chef Todd was phenomenal. Then COVID hit. Everything fell apart. Then I heard the restaurant was resurrected under a new name and chef. I jumped on the chance to go and see what they had to offer. I was not disappointed! It was wonderful! Was it the level they had in the past, no. But this is the first year out and what they did offer was EXCELLENT! Like so many things, you improve as you go. So what lies ahead will be stellar I’m sure! Congratulations and Bravo.

Atrocious. Took my mom for her birthday last night. Was looking forward to the 1931 reboot… memories of Orchids, all that. It took fifteen minutes to be greeted, and another fifteen to get our first (and only) round of drinks. When our waiter (George) finally showed up with drinks, we seized the moment to order BOTH the apps and main course. About forty minutes later our main course came out, followed by the appetizers, followed by a breadbasket. And that is when things got bad – we had to eat the food. Two of us had the Pappardelle and Braised Short Rib Ragout and the other two had the 6 oz Petite Filet of Beef. The Ragout was a highly oversalted mess and the Filets, third-rate undercooked hunks of beef. We would have asked George (our waiter) to make the situation right (or better) but he was nowhere to be found for that request, nor filling our water, nor a second round of drinks (thank God). But he did bring out the lemons we requested when he first filled our water just before he brought the check. We couldn’t get out of there quickly enough yet George found a way to get that wrong, too, by holding us up with a D+ joke, an apology, and a request to “give us another chance for a better experience in the future.” We spent $245, money that we should get back, money that would be nice to have back so we could have thrown it off a bridge into the Ohio River. It would have been so much more fun. And we wouldn’t have all gotten terribly sick.

A beautiful art deco space and the fare / drinks / music were quite good. My wife and I ended up sitting at the bar where Morgan was doing quite the job taking care of the many thirsty patrons in his gentlemanly manner. He was the reason we came back the next evening!

Great place to get a drink and listen to music. Fabulous art deco surroundings, which really must be seen!, and good jazz trio, not so loud you can’t have a conversation. Good place to eat. Apparently the chefis knew. The bunch of us (5) were only moderately hungry,, so we ordered light—soups, salads, one lighter entree that two of us split: the butternut squash ravioli. That dish was good—perhaps a little too sweet without being really offset by savory. The salads were all very nice—well seasoned, not over-dressed. I actually added salt and pepper to mine (a leafy salad) but then found it well-balanced in terms of acid-to-oil. Squash soup; someone had the roasted beets with chèvre and walnuts To my non-midwestern sensibilities, the main course menu items were not terribly appealing (pork, steak, meat in a cream sauce—yuck!—but I prefer less of an upscale and updated meat-and-potatoes kind of thing. I would have sprung for the black cod or salmon had I been hungrier. I wouldn’t call the food inventive.. But we did enjoy the things we ordered.

It was less than average they're credit card machine went down and they manually had to write everybody's information down on a piece of paper. I think that was very unprofessional They should have been able to give us a credit or voucher or something also I got a Reuben, a half of a Reuben which I did not select was $16 I think that was overpriced for a half of a Reuben and fries

Food and Service were incredible. Our waiter, Corey, is obviously a seasoned professional and made the evening enjoyable. The art deco dining room is one of the most elegant in town and the jazz from the adjacent bar was just the right level. This is not to be confused with the old Orchids Restaurant. This dining experience is more relaxed without any pretentiousness. Will definitely be back.

I realize they haven’t been open to long. So we went there giving them the benefit of the doubt. However, upon checking in for our reservations the host was weird. Almost like they didn’t have a table and or server. A party of 4 came in off the street and got sat before us. Our server was ok. Being in the industry I could tell he was overwhelmed , us being his 4th table. The other 3 had eaten and or were on desert. The food was good but Luke warm. We could have had a few more cocktails had the server dropped by more. We ordered a side and got charges for the appetizer. They had a great Jazz band. BUT it was so loud even with us in the back of the restaurant we couldn’t even hear each other.

I wanted this to be so good because we loved Orchids, but it needs some time to get things right. Our server was kind and personable, but she wasn't paying much attention to us or the status of our orders. We received dinner before our salads, and the kitchen forgot my side of potatoes. The primary wine selection was very small. When you ask for a wine list, you get a pretty tattered stack of papers that looks more like an office inventory sheet than a wine list. Quality of food was good, but not great. The beet salad didn't have much goat cheese. They mix in their specialty house grits with a lot of plates and I had the scallops over the grits. Scallops were done correctly and delish, but the grits were pretty dry. Lots of little things about the service can be improved... The busboy cut in front of guests navigating through the dining room, the food runner was holding a huge tray of food when she came to our table with our appetizer in her other hand--I was nervous she was going to dump the whole tray of food on my wife as she was trying to set the appetizer on our table. The server took off the cost of the salads and gave us a desert on the house without us asking, which shows they do care. I may wait a year or two and come back to see if things improved, but for the price this is not the experience we expected. I hope it gets better!

This brunch is not what it used to be, unfortunately. It’s now a very standard hotel brunch at a premium price. The location is still beautiful, but the food doesn’t live up to its surroundings.

Great reopening! 1931 is a wonderful addition to dining in Cincinnati. In addition to the beautiful setting, the food is excellent and the prices very reasonable.

This restaurant has potential but a little way to go. The staff is NOT trained well enough to complement the food and the ambiance. The place is GORGEOUS. There is no prettier venue in all of Cincinnati. The menu was good and the food excellent but the staff just was not up to par. We waited almost 10 minutes to be acknowledged by our waiter--why didn't the hostess make sure he knew we were seated. I had to go back to hostess stand to ask. When table appetizer was delivered, the individual small plates were not. One diner asked for plates and the runner brought back 1 - just for the person who asked. We also noticed that the table next to us did not get a fresh table bottle of water when one party left and another sat down. But the food was excellent. Crab Cake, Salmon and Short Rib pasta were ordered as well as the grazing plate.

Glad to see the former Orchid's space coming back. The food was delicious. The short rib with pasta was a generous portion bursting with flavor. The delicate mushroom ravioli was also excellent. We are looking forward to our next visit.
