Really lovely genuine old lobby hotel experience with great ambiance and music. The gnocchi was particularly excellent, and the buckeye dessert. Service was friendly and excellent (aside from no one being at the host booth).

Our anniversary dinner was excellent. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection, medium rare. The sides (green beans and frites) were excellent, cooked and seasoned to perfection. The Double Chocolate Buckeye Pie was a great way to end the dinner. The experience was top quality. We give it five stars.

The Netherland Hilton's lobby restaurant, 1931, is informally divided in half into a bar area and restaurant. Both share the same fabulous 1930s art deco architecture and decor, and the live jazz music can be heard throughout. I would highly recommend going here for a pre-dinner glass of wine and to enjoy the music. Both my husband and I, however, were very disappointed with the quality of our entrees. Most of both were inedible (fibrous artichoke hearts, boxed mashed potatoes that tasted like eating cellulose, asparagus boiled to the point of being unrecognizable). Worse, our server did not return at any point for more than an hour to check if we were satisfied. After our plates sat untouched for more than half an hour, a busboy finally removed them. When our waitress finally did return and asked if we were interested in dessert, we shared our disappointment with the quality of the meal. The manager delivered our dessert and acted like she was doing us a big favor by comping our dessert (not the entrees). I actually left this restaurant hungry. Oh, and I have no idea why they ask on the reservation if you are there for a special occasion; I indicated on the reservation that we were there for our 44th anniversary, but no one even wished us a happy anniversary. Bottom line: go to 1931 for a pre or post-dinner drink and enjoy the music. The kitchen and wait staff training is sorely lacking.

This place is a treasure. The brunch food was very delicious Please visit this place you will love the atmosphere. It’s a step back in time and if more people don’t start going there, I’m concerned that they’re not going to make it like many of the places in the Carew tower.

We went in expecting a grand buffet that equaled the beautiful atmosphere of the art deco spaces of this hotel. The buffet on the website for Sundays was made to sound like this one of a kind experience. Unfortunately it was as basic as any hotel breakfast. Worth 20$ at best, nowhere near the $42 per person. Coffee was like any generic bad coffee you’d have in the room itself. There were little options, nothing stood out as worth that amount of money or ambience. No wonder the guests around us were smart enough to just order off menu instead of doing the “buffet” because it was the same food anyways. Save your money. And if you’re a guest of the hotel like we were, either stick to the menu or go to the Paris Baguette across the street. There was no semblance of anything special or luxurious in this spread of basic breakfast items that were luke warm at best. Staff was friendly and attentive, though. But save your money until they start offering something worthy of the surroundings and price.

Great experience! Our server was incredibly kind and friendly. Ambiance and food were amazing. Salads had wonderful homemade croutons, drinks were delightful, desserts and food were incredibly rich and some of the best French onion soup I’ve ever had. Will gladly return again!

We thoroughly enjoyed dining at The 1931. The prices were reasonable and the live piano music very pleasing. The staff were very nice. It was a lovely experience.

Good drinks. Quiet spot with live piano. Gilded age space elevated a mediocre overall experience.
