1921 Mount Dora
Lovely evening! Brian, our server was very good. Disappointed you were out of the buns as well as res leches. The bar tender is terrific- think her name was Chelsea. Will be back next time we’re in town.
This place is great, second time there in 2 weeks. Menu changes and they use local farm provided foods when they can. Really nice locations and setting. The bar is great and happy hour snacks available as well
Fantastic food, ambiance and service! Enjoyed it so much that we came back the next day for lunch. Will definitely return every time we visit Mt. Dora, without fail.
We made our reservation in the Autumn of 2018 primarily because of Norman Van Aken. Only found out about his departure from 1921 shortly before our visit. Cannot comment on 1921 prior to his departure but will say, based upon our visit this past weekend , the kitchen lacks basic culinary discipline.
Our beet salad was smothered with too much vinegar and the fire roasted pork on a base of brown rice grits lacked taste and look like a plate of mud.
I came to Mt Dora for the extravaganza weekend. 1921 was my first dinner spot. It was outstanding in every respect. The service was great, the food was exceptional. I just like it there and will go back whenever I'm in town. Thank you.
Our waiter was very polished, and attentive. The server was less trained. She forgot our soup spoons and delivered my wife's salad several minutes after my soup was on the table. Otherwise the food was delicious. I selected this venue for a special birthday as my wife and I had done in the past. I am saddened that Norm has gone his separate way as he was an addition to the Mt. Dora cuisine. We will travel to the Ritz in Orlando.
The online menu looked appealing, and the reality was even better. We went for that week's Sunday Supper, which was superb fried chicken, excellent collards and black-eyed peas so good that I asked for seconds. I'm coming back this week with some friends who definitely are foodies so we can explore the rest of the menu. BTW, this restaurant is full of interesting art, thanks to its affiliation with the Modernism Museum across the street.
Birthday dinner with family; it was great! The food, atmosphere, service, etc.
The personalized menu was an added surprise!
We had a wonderful meal! Food was excellent, prices appropriate and our waitperson was friendly and added a positive note to our experience! The art collection only added to the enjoyment of the evening!
Really interesting contemporary looking restaurant. Original menu, and great modern art on the walls. They threw in a lovely dessert for my friend's birthday.
Fabulous, as usual!
Food was awesome , service was perfect ! Drinks are amazing ! See you tomorrow
Was initially disappointed that the New Years Eve dinner was preset without being informed. However, the meal turned out well. The 4 meal course was tasty. We both enjoyed.
Awesome New Year's Eve Experience
Chris was our server, as usual. He is one of the best servers in the area, if not the best. He is friendly, courteous, and professional, and always makes us feel like family. His recommendations were perfect for our pallets.
I'm normally not one for Pre-fix menus, but 1921 put together some great options for the night. I was very impressed with the menu. My girlfriend and I got different items and shared them so we got the best of two worlds. The flavors of the gnocchi dish, short rib dish, and desserts stood out the most however. I always love our experiences here and it made New Year's Eve even more special.
Big thanks to the staff and great job y'all!!!
As always ,awesome New Years eve tasting menu .with recommendations from our #1 wait staff Mason -/food was amazing.
We had early reservations for New years Eve and it worked our really well. We had skipped lunch to be sure to enjoy our meal and lucky we did since the special menu was 4 courses. Really enjoyed all of the food and the craft drinks.
Amazing food! The best chicken and porterhouse I’ve ever had. The chicken was so moist and cooked so well it was literally falling off of the bone! Yum!
We had a great experience!!! Fabulous service, drink and food. The acoustics weren’t great.
Came for brunch and was completely satisfied. Food was tasty and filling. A must if your in the area
The food is perfection. The staff is friendly, helpful, & courteous. You can’t go wrong with anything here. Love this restaurant.
We had heard great things so had high expectations. It was fine but not remarkable.
My husband, our son and I went to Christmas Eve dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience! We loved the ambience of the restaurant, the service and the meal was outstanding. We ordered different things on the menu so we all could taste them and all choices were delicious! We highly recommend this restaurant.
Great all around. Had private room for 8. Was a fantastic meal on Christmas Eve.
Dinner was delish, and dessert was fabulous. Waiter was trying to be attentive. Table close by were loud and demanding. Celebrating our anniversaries, couldn’t carry on our own conversation. That affected our experience.
Had Sunday brunch with family just prior to Christmas. Restaurant was very quiet. Able to carry on conversation without any issues. Food and service was very good. Two had mojo pork hash and two had grill mahi sandwiches. Everyone enjoyed the food. Fries with sandwiches were on salty side but very tasty.
We've been here in the past and had a great experience. It could be the kitchen was off that night or we just picked the wrong night to dine. Our meal was average compared to past meals there. Service has been better in the past.
Great l, flavorful food. Service was excellent!
Got the roasted chicken and loved it!
No kids menu available so we had to order a $19 hamburger for me 6 year old. We asked for it well done it came out pink in the middle. I worded venison and yes I am fully aware it typically comes out med rare however I asked for med well because I was told they would cook to my preference. Another member of our party ordered medium. One came out borderline medium and the other med rare. When we told the runner that it was under cooked he acted like it was a problem and then asked the other member if he would eat it and try to give me his order. We told him no. So it was sent back for a retire. It came back out medium. I’m at that point I just decided the cooks were going to cook it they way they wanted to and ate half of my four pieces of meat. At least the waiter cared enough to notice and brought out dessert for the kids to make up for it. Doubt I will ever go back. I can always go to Ruth Cris for a $9.00 hamburger
Amazing as always! Staff and food are always on point! Should be very proud!
My daughters and I are foodies and enjoy cooking. I also enjoy art. We live in Winter Park Florida and it was well worth the 1 hour drive to Mount Dora. The place was slightly eclectic, very artsy. The mood was jovial, everyone was enjoying their meal and their companionship. The mixed drinks were delicious, the wine offerings excellent and the food was delicious. I’m not a big dessert eater but we did order several desserts and they were outstanding.
Great food. Great time. Until the loud, drunk bank executives stumbled into the dining room during our desert. Kind of put a sour end on wonderful dining experience.
Certainly the finest cuisine in Mount Dora. Creative menu, great service and uncrowded experience. Only wish visitors would respect an upscale restaurant after 6pm by dressing appropriately. That being said, I guess there is no need to dress for "a night out" at any Mount Dora restaurant.
There are some outside tables including a large party outside terrace. If weather permits, a good spot for a group of 10 or so. Also a semi-private area inside for another large group.
Never surprised by the chef's specials.
Server was very attentive and friendly and paced the meal well. Every cocktail, entree, salad, app and dessert was delicious. Only downside was that we wanted to take advantage of Happy Hour before dinner but the bar was packed and no seating available. Will have to go earlier next time!
Homemade bread, amazing appetizers,
expertly prepared entrees of succulent barrelfish in mango sauce & exquisite pork tenderloin over baked apples and fingerling potatoes.
Great service staff and food was 5 star!!! Drive there at least once a year! Location was perfect!
Frequent guest at high end restaurants and this was a return visit to 1921. To be fair the food was all good. Service could be more personalized, i did not like my wine from home being in a central wine “chiller, if you will.” It needs to be at the guests table. The place was not that busy and our server was just to quick to have us be ready at one time to order. Also- cheese and meat plates were severely over priced for the quantity. In addition, the menu was nice, but again, some items are a little overpriced. 3 scallops in an entree and the burgers are tiny. The food was good, not exceptional, and the service nothing to rave about. Mt. Dora Christmas spirit amazing! I do not think this is still under the original owner? Friends together are priceless, just doing a review. Thank you for allowing us to bring our homemade Cake in, even if for a cutting fee.
I always take special guests here even though an hour drive for me...food is wonderful, always changing and service and ambiance always very good. Best restaurant in central Florida
I suspect that if you dine here and everything goes right you would likely be satisfied. However it is when things go wrong that a restaurant shows its true colors and sadly that is what happened at dinner last night.
We shared the appetizer of roasted oysters and foie gras and to their credit since there are three in the portion they suggested adding a 4th since we were a party of two. The oysters were very good but extremely small...barely larger than your fingernail. And if you are looking for foie gras...well it was there because we did get a hint of the flavour but don’t expect to see it.
It was also a disappointment that our first choice of wine was not available but that sometimes happens.
The real issue came with the entree...my fish was totally inedible. I couldn’t even cut into it. This came as a total surprise. Our server seemed to notice immediately- he had touted it as being amazing but It was anything but. However he was there in a flash and offered to have the kitchen make another portion or something else. I chose something else. He offered to leave the quinoa on the plate so I would have something to eat since my companion’s venison was now getting cold. The server also asked to put the piece of fish on another plate so he could take it back and show the kitchen - I couldn’t even spear it with my fork to transfer it!
After some time the replacement meal arrived but my companion had been trying to eat very slowly so we could enjoy our meal together but his was now cold and while my replacement was OK, dinner just wasn’t a great experience.
Usually in these circumstances a manager will stop by to apologize but the bill was brought (with zero adjustment and a note saying they were not charging for the Inedible dish!! but full charge for the replacement). We asked the server about this and he said that in this case they felt they didn’t need to “do anything for us”. We asked why a manager did not stop by and he said that was “not policy”.
The appetizer portions were small. Toast came out burnt. Limited menu. Main course great!
Appetizers, entree, and dessert were all fantastic. Friendly service. Unique and intriguing environment/decor. Highly recommended!
