1921 Mount Dora
We journeyed up to Mt. Dora on a gorgeous Saturday to take in the sites of the town and dine at the 1921 restaurant. We had our sights set on this spot since it opened, but were not able to come up for dinner all the way from Orlando,so we tried Brunch instead. We were not disappointed!
The restaurant is in a spacious, historic home adjacent to the Modern museum shop. It is very pretty inside, art pieces adorned the open spaces. A very substantial bar and terrace are available. We sat in the courtyard because it was simply too gorgeous to be inside. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly; our server, Rachael was right there to take our drink order. They have a set brunch menu and featured cocktails but the bar can make anything to order.
We had the pork belly with fire roasted brussels sprouts for the appetizer, it was delicious.
We split the little gems salad, perfectly dressed simple ingredients but well balanced.
We split the Shashuka and potatoes hash. The Shashuka was so savory, pieces of beef and eggs were nestled in the stewy sauce. We both agreed we could have eaten another dish, this was a big hit!The potato hash had sweet corn and other veggies and soft cooked eggs, it had nice flavors but nothing stood out here.
Service was outstanding and so were the cocktails
We will definitely be back to the 1921 and look forward to visiting Chef’s signature restaurant in Orlando soon.
Our appetizer (meat and cheese board) was delicious, and desserts were perfect!
The ribeye for two was cooked to perfection, but the vegetables (carrots and asparagus) had a chemical, almost propane taste. My husband and I shared this with the waiter who scoffed at us and said it was because it was organic.
We would visit again for the meat and cheese board, not sure about entrees.
Outstanding service and quality of food was equally good.
Amazing food and great service. Mother Daughter weekend in Mt Dora.
Love the different flavors going on in the Tile Fish dish. Also the salad was very good as well. Wine pour was very small though, thought it should have been more.
I order the chicken it was under done. We told waitress she said we server it pink. Then my wife lost her Appetite. We did still pay for the meal.
Fantastic all around. Delicious food and cocktails, very cool waitress and a great atmosphere sitting outside in the courtyard. Highly recommend
Great food and atmosphere.
Great food, great wine list, knowledgeable staff, modern, cool atmosphere! Look forward to going back!
Our favorite of several great Mt Dora dining locations. We try to drive up from Clermont about every other month for lunch, brunch or dinner.
Great place for eclectic feel and food.
Waiter was to busy and left is to long . Hence service was good but moments it was slow. Would recommend to friends for sure
Excellent food. Would like more non fish/seafood options.
Well to put it simply
Overpriced and underfed
We had the Sunday dinner - no salad - just a bowl with three small biscuits and two to three small pieces of chicken and a small amount of gravy, we had to ask for more gravy some the biscuits were so dry.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a God’s Sunday dinner.
Overpriced and underfed
Mount Dora is such a cute town and 1921 although in an older building is all modern. Waiter never asked if we wanted anything other than water to drink and disappeared for long periods of time. I had the Cobb salad which I was not impressed by. It was drenched in dressing and the bacon was fatty and undercooked. Given the reviews, I expected much better.
1921 has a bit of everything. Very good food, wonderful ambience, service is excellent, and the drinks are delicious.
Overpriced & limited menu. It’s a nice atmosphere & pleasant staff. But the food did not impress, which made paying the hefty bill that much worse. I doubt my wife & I will ever go back.
The menu items were few. There was only one seafood item on the menu. The entrees were were not only few in number but most were uncommon. That would not be a problem if they were something that an average person would try. My tile fish came with a teaspoon of pureed squash. A left the restaurant hungry. The appetizer menu was also disappointing and it to was limited and consisted of unusual items like octopus?
Over priced, cold food, grumpy server, uncomfortable seating facing wall.
We were able to get a reservation for 1921 during the Renningers Extravaganza weekend in Mount Dora and at a reasonable hour! The last time we were at this location it was a Tea Room. Beautiful transformation into an upscale restaurant. The unkempt garden is now a beautiful terrace for outside dining. Food was terrific and service was very good. Prices comparable to other MD nice restaurants and this is just far enough east of the traffic jams that you can find a place to park. We’ll be back.
The only thing I would recommend is making sure it's okay to reserve a table at 2:00 on a Sunday. There was a question whether we could order from the Happy Hour menu (Happy Hour began at 2 pm on Sunday). One of the girls mentioned that we shouldn't have been able to make a 2:00 reservation?? I made it online through OpenTable... Otherwise, everything was absolutely wonderful! We WILL be returning.
The food is always on point, Chelsea Harkness always makes the best suggestions and serves up the best craft cocktails. She is a true chemist of liquor! 1921 will continue to be our Sunday brunch destination.
It was very busy that night. Hostess greeted us with a friendly smile. We asked if we could eat at the bar instead and we got a drink right away. Great food and service from bar team was outstanding.
Brad was our waiter and was excellent. The food was great at a reasonable price. Atmosphere was just what we were looking for.
Wonderful, unique and tasty branch !! Will go back again.
We had a wonderful meal from start to finish - from the great food to friendly servers. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience at 1921, thank you!
Food was amazing and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend them for a special night out.
One of our special occasion go tos. We have went for birthdays, anniversarys and Valentine's Day.
We arrived for our first visit on Valentine's Day. We wanted to try something new and had heard great things. We were not disappointed. From the excellent drinks, milk buns, entrees and dessert, our meal was wonderful. Our server was attentive and very friendly. We especially enjoyed the milk bun bread service and the 1921 burger. While the pace might be a bit slow for some, we enjoyed the chance to enjoy a good meal, conversation with one another, and simply unwind for an hour or two. We can't wait to return.
Lovely place! Lovely place! Lovely place! Lovely place!
We were a party of 4 for Valentines dinner with reservations . They seated us at a table for 6 which made it very difficult to visit especially with the noise level. The hostess said she couldn’t seat us at a table for 4. The two women enjoyed their meal very much but the two men did not. They ordered the pork porterhouse which was slices of pork and there was no rice on the plate as shown on the menu. One of our party asked them to leave off the Brussels sprouts and just add more rice grits. No grits or vegetables seen on their plates except for minisule amount of vegetable shavings.
Our favorite restaurant in Lk County. The menu never disappoints. Our server, Mason, is extremely knowledgeable of the menu and wine selection. Great service!! Definitely recommend this restaurant!
Valentine's Day dinner out can be iffy but not at 1921. My wife started with the salad and I had the soup- both were exceptional. My wife had the duck and enjoyed it. My wife teases me about ordering a burger and fries at an upscale restaurant but if there is a better burger and fries in Mid-Florida I don't know where it is! My wife lost an earring and asked the staff to call us if it was found. They did and called for us to pick it up. 1921 is one of our favorites!
My husband & I treated ourselves to dinner out on Valentine's day at 1921...it did not disappoint. Chris our waiter was attentive and personable. The lovely hostess was appreciative we called to say we were running 10 minutes late. We loved all the amazing artwork, decor, the ambiance ...most importantly the food was outstanding! We shared the porterhouse for 2 and had the roasted oysters &grilled octopus for our appetizers. Our evening was even more delighful when we struck up a conversation with the lovely couple next to us...who turned out to be the Mayor of Mount Dora and his lovely wife. Just an all around great experience...we will be back! Thank you making our Valentine's Day so enjoyable ❣️👍
Excellent food and service. Always a delightful experience.
We stopped for lunch. The menu was very interesting. I had the Cobb Salad with grilled chicken and it was very good. The service was good and the staff was friendly and welcoming.
Awesome service and food. So much fun, we went there two nights in a row. Sit at the bar and converse with the locals.
We came for a family birthday and had a delicious meal in a lovely setting
We'll be back for other occassions.
We really enjoyed the Service Brad provided...he gave us our space but was right there when we needed him. The food...oysters, octopus, and the variant uses of squash throughout the starters, salads, and main entrees...were all spectacular. The tile fish was buttery and perfectly prepared. Kudos to the new executive chef and his team. We look forward to the new spin to be placed on the menu. We will definitely be back.
The menu and quality of food preparation has been much better since a change of staff, and Norman exited the picture. Very interesting food preps and combinations. Innovative. Vibrant bar scene, but there are quiet places in the main restaurant for dining.
