Frequent guest at high end restaurants and this was a return visit to 1921. To be fair the food was all good. Service could be more personalized, i did not like my wine from home being in a central wine “chiller, if you will.” It needs to be at the guests table. The place was not that busy and our server was just to quick to have us be ready at one time to order. Also- cheese and meat plates were severely over priced for the quantity. In addition, the menu was nice, but again, some items are a little overpriced. 3 scallops in an entree and the burgers are tiny. The food was good, not exceptional, and the service nothing to rave about. Mt. Dora Christmas spirit amazing! I do not think this is still under the original owner? Friends together are priceless, just doing a review. Thank you for allowing us to bring our homemade Cake in, even if for a cutting fee.
I always take special guests here even though an hour drive for me...food is wonderful, always changing and service and ambiance always very good. Best restaurant in central Florida
I suspect that if you dine here and everything goes right you would likely be satisfied. However it is when things go wrong that a restaurant shows its true colors and sadly that is what happened at dinner last night.
We shared the appetizer of roasted oysters and foie gras and to their credit since there are three in the portion they suggested adding a 4th since we were a party of two. The oysters were very good but extremely small...barely larger than your fingernail. And if you are looking for foie gras...well it was there because we did get a hint of the flavour but don’t expect to see it.
It was also a disappointment that our first choice of wine was not available but that sometimes happens.
The real issue came with the entree...my fish was totally inedible. I couldn’t even cut into it. This came as a total surprise. Our server seemed to notice immediately- he had touted it as being amazing but It was anything but. However he was there in a flash and offered to have the kitchen make another portion or something else. I chose something else. He offered to leave the quinoa on the plate so I would have something to eat since my companion’s venison was now getting cold. The server also asked to put the piece of fish on another plate so he could take it back and show the kitchen - I couldn’t even spear it with my fork to transfer it!
After some time the replacement meal arrived but my companion had been trying to eat very slowly so we could enjoy our meal together but his was now cold and while my replacement was OK, dinner just wasn’t a great experience.
Usually in these circumstances a manager will stop by to apologize but the bill was brought (with zero adjustment and a note saying they were not charging for the Inedible dish!! but full charge for the replacement). We asked the server about this and he said that in this case they felt they didn’t need to “do anything for us”. We asked why a manager did not stop by and he said that was “not policy”.
The appetizer portions were small. Toast came out burnt. Limited menu. Main course great!
Appetizers, entree, and dessert were all fantastic. Friendly service. Unique and intriguing environment/decor. Highly recommended!
This is an upscale establishment in Mt. Dora, perhaps the only real upscale one in town. We had high hopes and were not disappointed. The food, ambiance, attention to detail, etc. were what you can expect when paying the tariff for something special. The art work is provided by the museum next door, so the visual delights are a bonus. Definitely a great experience in a rather nice town.
Dined twice recently and food has definitely declined. Comparing Thanksgiving dinner last year vs. this year, plating and portions were decidedly more "cafeteria" like than last year. I can understand improved efficiencies to give the service team a chance to get home to their families on the holiday but not even a bread plate (milk roll ended up all soggy from cranberry sauce)? Added to that was the pace of service. We had not yet even taken a SIP of our cocktails when our dinner plates arrived. I did hear another server offer another table the option to wait for their food to enjoy their drinks, but that didn't happen for us. Definitely lost its "special" feeling for that meal.
A subsequent visit also failed to impress. Food was bland and lacked any special finesse that we used to see here.
The bar still turns out fantastic cocktails though! - tasty, innovative, and a broad offering of unique spirits.
This is mine and my husbands favorite restaurant. We went for my birthday with our two teens. The experience was not quite up to the usual 5 star rating we are used to. I had the fish of the day, it was under seasoned and I had to ask for salt to add to it. Unusual at this restaurant. In addition, our dirty plates were not cleared promptly in between courses, nor was the table wiped down. (This has always been my experience in the past). The toast with the cheese plate was slightly burnt as well. I was brought a bowl of ice cream with a candle in, but one of our party was in the restroom at the time and it was haphazardly dropped at the table : happy birthday. It should’ve been delivered when my whole party was present. Small details I know, but I’m used to 5 star service here. It was a bummer that our first less than experience happened on my birthday.
Food and service is outstanding, chairs are the worst. Might be my body frame but when I see bruises something is wrong. I'm a disabled veteran and this place is worth it to me. Just need to bring a pillow next visit. If you like Duck, then you will love their creation.
This was the first restaurant ever where we had issues with the reservation through open table. I was notified that I did not show up w/o notice. This could be clarified afterwards.
The occasion was specified in the reservation however (it was my birthday) the table was not even ready. Extremely high noise level inside which made us chose a table outside. Tables were not getting cleared in a timely manner, neither inside nor outside. I had to look at the dirty table behind ours throughout the entire evening. Very good service (waiter). The starters were nothing special we ordered chicken wings and oysters. We shared the bone in rib eye which was excellent and made up for the starter.
I wouldn’t go there for special occasions.
Eclectic foods that were delicious, noise level very high, hard to carry on conversation but overall enjoyed the birthday celebration dinner.
Our server was the highlight of the evening...the food was good, but only steak on the menu was for 2 and only cooked to one temp.... most couple do not eat steak the same temp... the sides were good and the dinner rolls served as an appetizer I felt were like charging for bags on an airline, but were awesome...waited over an hour for our dinner, a medium 20 oz ribeye... way too long guys... Chris gave us desert for our time delay... Not that I asked for it... the deserts were both awesome... some of the issue this night, I trust was the Light up Mt Dora event going on, so we will be going back to enjoy a night on a regular evening out....
The menu was limited (Thanksgiving), as we expected. In our party of four, three plates had to be returned because the food was cold. The second round was warmer, but not as hot as one would expect. Flavors were sophisticated and interesting, even for so standard an occasion. Specialty cocktails were interesting and delicious.
We were there thanksgiving and they only had a Turkey dinner that night for $55. Not much food and it didn’t include an appetizer only the entree and dessert . I think there regular menu is probably much better
To expensive for turkey. Made my reservation before I new of the special menu for Thanksgiving. By then everything was sold out. I will never pay 55.00 for dry turkey again.
Amazing high end restaurant,in keeping with Chef Norman’s quality.Cocktails and wine selections very good, request to be served by Mason ,very knowledgeable and A1 in all aspect .They were offering for our thanksgiving dinner white or black truffles ,for $50 unbelievable.Next time bringing foodie family and eat at their Chef’s table.
The food was fantastic, the service as always top notch
What can we say about the deserts but over the top.
We moved to Mount Dora recently and you are by far our favorite restaurant...
Remarkable as usual. The care and quality of the food and its preparation is matched by the thoughtful guidance of the more-than-competent servers.
Great place to celebrate our anniversary
The service saved the night.
The food was average.
The best thing we ate was chicken wings.
The steak for two was ok. Dessert was ordinary.
Several folks bragged about the restaurant. We we're in the area for other reasons but chose this restaurant as our prime meal experience. I wish I had chosen something else.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time celebrating a birthday!
Fantastic menu, outstanding quality, wonderful service. Best restaurant around, for sure.
Celebrated my mother’s birthday with the family. We were there to taste the brunch. Everything we ordered was delicious, including breakfast and lunch dishes. Our youngest as disappointed about the lack of a kids menu, but they pulled through and made him a special Mac n cheese dish to meet his palate. Definitely a unique and memorable experience at 1921.
Great service, food and drinks! We’ll be back!
Overall an excellent experience. Our waitress was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. The tables are not squished one next to each other for extra profit, which means diners get some privacy. Both beverages and food were prepared with expertise and original flavor combinations.
The only negative aspect of our dining experience was my allergy to onions. I had checked the menu online at home, to make sure there were onion-free options. However, once there, we found out that almost all dishes are cooked with onions - even if they are not mentioned on the menu. No substitutions allowed. So, I ended up with extremely limited choices. I honestly think that a restaurant of this caliber should be more precise with menu item descriptions, as to avoid unpleasant surprises at the table.
Entrees don't have to be so exotic. A little more traditional would be nice. They need more variety in their beer selections. Everyone doesn't want a craft beer with fruit in it. I like a nice lager or pilsner beer. They are generally not on the menu.
But, my wife and I do like the restaurant and excellent wait staff. We will continue to support this restaurant.
We have been to this restaurant several times and always had an excellent experience. The food is exceptional and one thing I like about it, the portions are adequate but not overwhelming. (As an aside, I'm not a big fan of going out for a special evening and schlepping home a to-go box because the portions were gargantuan and I wanted to try the appetizer and have a dessert.) The service was excellent. Our waiter, Mason, was thoughtful, knowledgable, and funny but not pushy. Perfect. I had some fabulous oysters and snapper. My husband and our guest had the duck breast and were very pleased. All in all, recommend highly.
Loved it, food was amazing, drinks were delicious, if you’re in Mount Dora it’s a must!
Service level second to none.
Chris was our waiter....fantastic.
All staff awesome.
Absolutely the BEST! The service was outstanding. Our waiter described the food in great detail and when it was presented, it exceeded our highest expectation. It’s an experience you will remember and want to share with your friends.
Beautiful restaurant with an elegant and romantic atmosphere. We went with a small group of five people and got outstanding service and delicious food .We had a memorable night !!
The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The food was ok, but the menu was limited. I wish there was more things to choose from. I love the hot buns, but would prefer not to have the salt on top.
Great place for friends or a date night. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere was great.
As was our last visit we love this restaurant. Mason our waiter was fabulous and took great care of us. We had family with us from out of town. They are now jealous. Celebrated birthday of my wife and they took great care of us. Food was fantastic.
Made reservations for lunch during a festival in Mount Dora. The menu was limited but the food was excellent. Can’t wait to go back when the full menu is available. Highly recommend
We have been quite a few times. Have never been disappointed. Everything is great. Wait staff is very knowledgeable and courteous. Highly recommend it. Worth the drive from Tampa for sure
It was a slow night due to a craft show setting up on the streets. Parking was blocked & we had to walk quite a ways to get there. But we were there & enjoyed our dinner. A good wine pour helped.
Lovely experience at 1921. Food was well prepared and portions were nicely done so you could have each course and enjoy but NOT feel stuffed. Staff was very nice and 1921 is a restaurant we will visit again!
Once the dining area started to fill the noise level rose significantly but not unbearable. It was a pleasant evening, the presentation was nice and the food was tasty.
