Absolutely wonderful dining experience. I took my parents (who live ~20 minutes away) to celebrate their 59th wedding - they loved it and so did I! I am from Texas where my daughter is an artist/urban farmer and my son is a chef in one of the top fine-dining restaurants in Austin, so I have a refined appreciation of both art and food - 1921 is a feast for both the eyes and the palate! Kudos Chef Van Aken!

The food is fabulous. The chefs definitely know what they are doing. There are not many really good restaurants in downtown Mt Dora. Three maybe four max. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star was because the acoustics are really loud. If only there was a way to fix that because if you get a table with some loud person next to you it can be disturbing. But having said that, the place was packed and I will add they do not pile the tables on top of each other. They are no cely spaced apart. And 1921 has a FANTASTIC HAPPY HOUR. Super cocktails, delicious burger and other great bites.

The Sunday night suppers specials are always good but the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and smothered green beans with gravy is exceptional. The value for the dollar is outstanding and we had a cherry pie for dessert. If your in the area, you've got to try the Sunday supper.

My wife and I did not know about this place until we saw the tv show highlighting this restaurant. We were excited with there farm to table menu using fresh healthy-organic foods from more local food sources. We often dine in Mt Dora, enjoying the great atmosphere and some good restaurants. There location is slightly off the main path, the predominantly white building is rather dull in appearance but clean. We decided to have our date night there, upon entrance we were greeted kindly, and we were impressed with the overall interior decor and atmosphere. We are both in our mid 50's and have grown to eat smarter and healthier. The menu selection was good and pricing a little high being a la carte. I ordered the pork chop and a beer,my wife ordered the snapper. The food came promptly and looked nice although they were small portions with very minimal vegetables. Both our dinners tasted great, we ended up swapping dinners since she could not eat her snapper being too under cooked for her taste. Overall we had a good experience and service. We would have enjoyed our dinner more if it was served with a regular serving of vegetables and some bread.

1921 was outstanding. The only thing- it was loud. Probably couldn't be avoided since we were seated by the steps to the bar.
Exceptional food and server.

Food was amazing. We had the red snapper and pork chop. The milk and honey dessert was one of the best desserts I have ever had! So many textures and delicious flavors. Server was attentive but not intrusive. A very nice experience. We will be back.

My coworker and shared a delicious lunch. We both ordered the Grilled Snapper Sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were not made to feel rushed out of the restaurant and were able to linger at the table to talk. Very good service.

Were 1st time customers and enjoyed the meal overall with an exception. We ordered a cheeseburger (medium) and it came out medium rare. So we requested another and got the same results. For $18 the burger should be cooked as requested.

The appetizers, red snapper and desert was delicious. Mason our server was superb.

This is my 3rd bad experience. Inattentive surly, disinterested server began our adventure that continued throughout. The shrimp in appetizer looked large and delicious but, when my fork attempted to cut into them, they disintegrated into mush, most likely result of too lengthy marinade. (I have been a restaurant critic, food editor, cookbook author and teacher for over 40 years). One of my guests ordered the salad appetizer that she could not eat because the dressing was bitter. We divided it 4 ways to taste (one of my guests is the dietician-recipe developer for one of America’s largest corporations. We agreed it was acceptable although bitter. The chicken wings were a winner. Norman’s signature conch fritters were yummy(I have had them since his restaurant in Key West). Truly the food problems would have been forgotten if the staff (not only our server but as a whole) had been friendly and anxious to please.
I write this because I want you to succeed not only with tourists but to become a favorite with locals. Norman is a great chef and a beautiful person. His restaurant in Mt Dora should reflect him.

Had a server who seemed like he was probably new at his job. He read the menu categories too us but couldn’t really tell us about the food or make recommendations. The lack of knowledge and enthusiasm was disappointing. It was also a special occasion celebrating a birthday and it was noted in reservation but not acknowledged. We really appreciate getting to learn about places and what makes them special so it was a disappointing first visit. The only thing that was really great was the milk chocolate Panna Cotta knocking it out of the park and the nice staff at front door who were able to tell us when asked a bit more about the building.

Service was amazing Chris was our server, knowledgable friendly and on point. Started with oysters on the 1/2 shell and cheese plate. I had the pumpkin swordfish just the perfect amount. Ended with creme brulee and I told even care for that but it was good.

We opted for the tasting menu with wine pairing. It was just excellent. Every dish was so well prepared with layers of flavor. Our server Ashley was a total professional. When some woman sat at a neighboring table who had marinated herself in perfume Ashley kindly relocated us.

Made a reservation online for a special anniversary dinner for two people. Arrived exactly on time and was seated and greeted with menus by a waiter. Another couple was seated after us who put in their drink order. They were served drinks by their waitress but unfortunately our waiter never reappeared. We finally called out to the server for the table next to us and she agreed to serve us. The menu was limited consisting of approximately 6 items. I asked if the redfish was grilled and blackened. She said that it was grilled but had a pumpkin topping. We ordered that but both of us thought it was pan fried. Nothing came with the fish except for a slice of pumpkin. I asked if bread came with it and the waitress said no but you could order bone milk biscuits and I laughed thinking of dogbone treats. She misunderstood and brought some which we paid extra for. Ordered a dessert which was good along with decalf coffee. Have had better experiences at The Lakeside Inn and Goblin Market Place. This was our second visit. The first seemed better.

Only thing missing was some type of bread service. How about artisanal bread( you have the oven for it)and some herb or spiced butters. The reason I say this is continuity is lost between the wine service and the first course. You sit with nothing on the table but a glass of wine and it would be nice to have something to nibble on .
