went here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised with the service. the place has a relaxed atmosphere and the sound from the live band is not overpowering that you can still have a conversation. decent price and free underground parking is a plus.
Limited brunch options but what was offered was delicious. New brunch menu will be available by the end of February.
Good value, terrific service. Appreciated the underground parking!
My boyfriend and I loved this place so much. We went on a Saturday night and there was a live pianist who played hits from the 40s to 90s. Food and drinks were delicious as well. We stayed for hours just singing along and watching couples dance. Amazing place, highly recommend!
Long wait for main course, then only two meals showed up. We were told that the pizza was burned so the third person would get their meal in another 20-25 minutes. No apology or query as to whether she wanted something else or if they could get her something in the meantime. When I commented we were told “ we are doing our best” and the server just left. No offer to reduce the price or acknowledgement that it is not ideal to have two people eating while the third waits. We spoke to the manager at the end of the meal when we got the full bill and he was kind EuroEcho apologize and discount the bill. The food was disappointing....far poorer than on our previous meals there, and that just added to the disappointment. All it would have taken from the server was a more understanding and proactive attitude to make this less of a bad experience. We will certainly not return.
I wanted to review higher, and I will try 1918 again, but as of now I would definitely not recommend to others. The food was very good, but we were there for over 2 hours to have an entree and dessert delivered, and there were only 5 tables full in the restaurant. It was frustrating to see other tables come in after us and get their orders and desserts before us. The server did their best to explain the wait, and did offer a discount on the bill which was generous. I am hopeful that the next time we go the experience will be better.
My husband and I were looking for a casual place to grab dinner before the ballet. Being we were booking last minute on a Saturday night, there were limited options which would ensure a reservation so to eat and be done in time to not be late for the show. This was easily accommodated including not only getting a table but also speed of service. We were very impressed with how nice of a room it was! Very upscale rustic chic. Best part of the whole experience was though? How incredible the food was!! My husband had a simple burger which was great but I had the Arctic char which could easily have been a dish at a fine dining restaurant. Other notable comments: service was pleasant and efficient, wine was cheap and good, and management is present / communicative to the guests. Great experience!
Very busy night! The staff was a bit overwhelmed. We love the food here but a couple of the dishes seemed to be mis-timed coming out.
Great place for a casual evening!
Great service and food. Very clean and bright space. Highly recommend
Nice place, highly recommended. Nice that some of the profits go to the Legion.
Restaurant has alot of potential to being great. Its the little things that count and was lacking, the visual of stacked patio chairs, length of time to be acknowledged upon arrival. The food was okay.
Order was wrong and food was extremely salty
Great gem in West Hillhurst,
Casual dining, good food and good service. Second time I have visited this restaurant and both times we have had great experiences.
I would like to like this restaurant more, and I will, when their menu reflects that they use goat cheese in their scalloped potatoes!
The service was excellent and really enjoyed the ambience. Both my boyfriend and I got pizza's - my pizza was lukewarm to cool and both by the end of the meal were soggy and just plain unenjoyable. We got a perogies starter, which was good and clearly made from scratch, but there were only 3 small perogies in the dish. We also got the cheesecake for dessert, which we found very dry. Overall, we might go back for drinks some day on the patio or after work due to great service and ambience but nix the dinner.
What a great way to support Canadian veterans and the community! We tried 1918 Tap and Table for dinner on New Year's Eve. The food was very good: inviting comfort food is what the 1918 Tap and Table website says they aim to serve and we think they hit the mark bang on. Service was excellent. We will definitely go back and look forward to enjoying good food and refreshment on the patio when weather permits.
Portions a little on the small side. Service was great. Ambiance nice. Prices reasonable.
We went to 1918 for our son’s birthday, not realizing it was run by the Legion as a nonprofit which was a nice bonus. The food was exceptional. Started with the cracklings which I haven’t had I had outside Britain. Very good! I had the Arctic Char which was cooked to perfection and elegantly presented in a lobster broth with clams and fingerling potatoes. My son had the ribeye which was perfectly cooked and delicious. Everything was reasonably priced for the quality. The service was a tiny bit slow but well paced for a “dining” experience. Noise level was good- there was a pleasant hub bub but we could easily hear each other speak. The only complaint was that there could have been a wider selection of Alberta craft beer as they advertise “locally sourced” and there were only a couple beers on offer. Overall, we enjoyed it and plan to return!
Slightly unusual service, perhaps busier than expected? I was told there was no “braised red cabbage” after all for the short rib dish, but was offered a choice of a couple of things in lieu. That was acceptable, but the scalloped potatoes that came with the short ribs tasted weird - after a couple of bites I ate no more. When the server was taking the plate away, I asked if there was goat cheese in the scalloped potatoes. The server returned with the news that indeed there was, and asked did I have an allergy. No, but scalloped potatoes is a pretty standard recipe - if you’re going to alter it in such a way, it should be described in the menu! Although the server offered to bring me something else, or to treat me to a coffee or dessert, I didn’t really want anything - except for the menu description to be changed!
The restaurant itself is quite beautiful, the location is good, the parking is great...
This restaurant is not up to standard. The service was slow and incompetent. The food while cooked properly just wasn’t good. If I wanted a burger with processed cheese I will go to Mickey D’s. I also had mushroom soup that can only be described as tasteless and gritty.
Great place for casual dining. Met up with friends and had a full fun evening
Surpassed expectations. A bit too noisy but hey! Friday night 😀
The decor and ambience was well done. Food was ok. One of our meals came out cold, the other two were alright. Once we were able to get our servers attention, we got a replacement meal that was cooked. Lots of staff, lighting was a little bright but not loud so you could carry on normal volume conversations. It was nice to see kids in there as well. It wasnt too busy but still had enough people to give it a nice vibe.
I had met a colleague here for dinner and we really enjoyed it. We both had the steak sandwich and they were cooked perfectly. We also had dessert..banana bread pudding..which was absolutely delicious.
The service was good, the decor is nice but the the food needs some upgrading. Good to try it but we won’t be going back.
We had great meals, the food was served hot, the wait time was a little lengthy but our server was also waiting on a large birthday group next to us.
We stumbled upon this place looking for somewhere new and had to try it. We thoroughly enjoyed it! A great spot for dining or just a snack and a drink. Fantastic service with great ambiance. Just a wonderful spot to meet friends and family. We will be back.
Great spot, reasonably priced and good location. Service was good, and they had a decent happy hour on drinks. Note, their parking is under ground as it is a bit confusing when you get there as there is very little parking in the area.
Food was decent in a beautiful open space. Service was pleasant but at times inattentive and slow, we waited almost 30 minutes after finishing our meal (table was cleared) before our food server came back to our table.
Batter on fish and chips was soggy with little taste. Coleslaw had little taste.
Pork schnitzel didn’t have much taste and could have been crispier.
Chocolate cake was on the dry side.
good food- good prices- high ceilings so acoustics allow easy conversation
Stopped in for a drink. Impressed with the quality of the cocktails as well as the small plates. Can't wait to go back for a meal.
As an added bonus, the restaurant funds The Legion.
Great location with free parking. Modern restaurant with high ceilings and excellent light. Very good selections for lunch to fit everyone’s tastes. Well prepared and timely food and beverage service. Great neighbourhood, comfortable upscale restaurant.
Lovely modern restaurant that has something for everybody in a concise but generous menu. Surprisingly family friendly but could serve as a sports bar. We enjoyed our meal and our evening.
The food is delicious and the service is great. Family friendly, comfortable and nice atmosphere. Good value for money. Good selection of wine and craft beers.
Everything was enjoyable from the minute we arrived
Some portions are too small for the cost. Craft beer selection is great. Service was good.
I can be a fussy diner at times and quite enjoyed it.
It was great!
A magnificent meal and a great wine. Our Bresola appetizer was tasty and unique. Our main was a well cooked fish special with layers of flavour on the plate. The desserts were oh so pretty and tasty ...a definite bargin for the desserts. A very good evening.
