1909 Kitchen – Tofino Resort + Marina
Some of the food was tasty but the Giordano pizza lacked some spices. We had high expectations of the chef and they were not met. The service was exceptional and the ambience great.
Amazing Valentine's Day Dinner. Superb 3 course meal to share with your partner. The food was great, the service was great, and the vibe was great. In fact, the portions were huge and for such good food, so it was an all around incredible night.
Lovely service!!! Beautiful view!! And the food was super fresh and full of flavour!! Date day with my husband on our weekend getaway!! This place is not disappoint!!!
Wonderful addition to Tofino and marina. Enjoyed a lovely dinner. Will be back!
Overall the food was excellent but the service really detracted from the overall experience. This was our second visit here and again, as already stated the food was exceptional; portions are small but that just means you can try a few extra items! The albacore tuna, the beef cheeks and mushrooms risotto as well as the s’mores and skillet cookie desserts deserve special mention. But, as an example of the poor service, we ordered a second glass of wine each for our mains as our starter plates were being cleared, asked again when our mains were served....and then received them 5 minutes after we’d finished our mains. For the price point they are charging service is definitely sub-par. Having said that, we did not experience this issue during our first visit, and the food is so good, we’ll still give them another chance next time we’re in Tofino.
Unfortunately the staff forgot about us, so we left and went elsewhere.
We liked very much this place. Just something to highlight, even we have been informed by the waiter, the quantity was too small for the price. It was a bigger plate yet.
The ambiance and the service were really pleasant ! Thank you for attention !
This was my second time at Kitchen 1909 and it lived up to my expectations (first time was wonderful). We had Christmas diner and the food was delicious as were the cocktails and the ambiance was cozy and festive. Overall a very festive night! Highly recommend.
Good food, nice and quiet atmosphere for a nice evening with your significant other.
Wonderful food with a cozy atmosphere. Will recommend to all family and friends visiting the area.
Another great meal at 1909. Love the feel of this room!! Staff always comes thru with little touches that make the night great!
My only comment that the serving plates/dinner plates should be warm other than that it was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend the restaurant.
The food was AMAZING. We shared the cod, brussel sprouts, and the oysters between two people and split two desserts. Everything we order was delicious. Would definitely recommend.
Everything was over the top delicious! Much attention was paid to the smallest details of the dishes we ordered. From the cauliflower to the shrimp and pasta topped off by the s’mores dessert who could ask for better. Just go and see for yourself.
Five stars service, great local dishes, excellent experience. Thank you for hosting us!
The food and service was excellent. Unfortunately, there was a birthday party going on at the same time and it got a bit noisy at times.
Our server was lovely, the atmosphere was very cozy and romantic, and the food was excellent - however the cocktails seemed small for the price, but tasted fantastic
The food was delicious, cooked to perfection with great flavour combinations. Overall we really enjoyed the meal. A complimentary dessert for our anniversary was a very nice touch.
Although we did have some complaints on the portions. For the price the portions were way too small. I understand they are meant to be share plates but a beef tenderloin with no sides for $45+tax is a bit outrageous.
Great service and lovely food. The black cod was well done and thoughtful approach to dessert. Starters for sharing very tasty. Very helpful adjustment to the menu for the kids too.
I would recommend your waitress to be more engaging. She was very friendly but it’s great for a fantastic restaurant like this to go that extra step more with “where Are you from?” , just know your tables story. She was nice, food was delicious, but that extra connection would be even better. Such a fantastic dinner though. All the best !
Lovely place with great views. Limited menu. Pricey.
Was a little concerned after reading a few Yelp reviews that were negative, but we found this to be a little gem. We tried 3 small plates, and one large. The small were all good- especially the green beans and the house made orecchiette. The large plate we tried was the black cod, and it was cooked perfectly. The only thing to improve upon would be the crispy tofu accompaniment. It was very bland, and could use something salty/tangy/spicy to round it out.
Their service was fine and the ambiance was very peaceful. We will go back.
Our waitress was great! Food innovative and tasty. Would go again for sure !
Service was amazing! Really made my boyfriends birthday dinner a special one. Food was outstanding. Will be back!
We enjoyed 1909 so much on our recent visit we went twice in 5 days!! The food was exceptional, different, interestingly presented and delicious! We loved the whole experience. Serving staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend 1909 and Chef Moran’s amazing cooking! Thank you!!
Our first impression upon arriving at 1909 Kitchen was good - the setting on the wharf is beautiful and the interior decor is pleasing. We chose to share a few plates, both small and large size. However, we were very disappointed with the size and value of these items. For example, the “locally caught black cod” was of minimal size (barely enough for one person to eat) and priced at $38! We saw a few pizzas passing by and wished that we had ordered a couple of pizzas instead, as they looked good and were more fairly priced. After paying an outrageous amount for our meal and still feeling hungry, here is my advice - don’t bring your appetite but be sure to have your wallet at Kitchen 1909!
Stunningly delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere, with a beautiful view.
All staff were polite, but need some fitness. Eggs were overdone, server didn’t ask for preference, one meal was forgotten at the pass for a long time. The quality of the food was not what I had read about online. Perhaps the burger bar in the same resort is better, as it is from the same kitchen but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to make this their breakfast go to unfortunately. Over all a little disappointed with our experience at 1909 Kitchen.
The Tuna was ins of the best starter i ever had.
The cod was okay, but the side was small. In total it was for that price a little bit too small portion.
Absolutely Amazing!! A group of us had the chefs choice menu with wine pairings and the food/wine were truly beyond expectations. If you are in Tofino, this place is an absolute must to visit. Thank you for an amazing experience!
Best we’ve ever had in Tofino. The sharing idea is a great concept.
Our fine dinning experience in Tofino was previously limited to the Wolf in the Fog and in my opinion 1909 Kitchen is just as good and perhaps better. The menu choices are different than you will find at most fine dinning establishments but don't let that keep you from trying anything offered. Believe it or not I chose the cabbage rolls and was amazed at how good they were. They most certainly are not your mother's cabbage rolls!
Service was excellent.
Menu - wine list - cocktails - lots of innovation.
Our first impression of 1909 was not particularly a good one. After having booked a week ahead, and confirming on the automated OpenTable system, we arrived at the hostess station, gave our name and she promptly told me she didn't have a table reserved for us. I showed her the confirmation on my phone and she said "oh that happpens all the time - that system doesn't really work very well, but it's okay, we have a table for you anyway" So she showed us to a table in the middle of the restaurant - all the window tables were taken. I'm thinking to myself - perhaps if the reservation system had worked, I could have had a nice view table.
Anyway, the evening improved from there. The setting is very pleasant, with lovely views. The food was good, particularly the Bouillabaise, although we felt it should have been served with bread to sop up all the delicious broth. We did order bread, but it seemed to take forever to arrive.
Our dessert was scrumptious - the Tiramasu. Almost made me want to return just for another serving of that.
Food was EXCELLENT! Very healthy and delicious! And the price was very reasonable!
It was ok but certainly not what we expected. The waiter was unfamiliar with the on-tap beer selection. I had to go to the bar to point out the beer I wanted. He then challenged me on the pronunciation of Juan de Fuca. The portions were small and very expensive and not overly impressive. I had bouillabaisse with mostly empty shells and unpeeled prawns for $50.00. We also shared the Cedar plank Cod with a lot of bones and inedible deep fried tofu cubes. The view was amazing but be sure to bring sunglasses if dining during sunset hours. Had lunch at Hatch that same day and was very happy with service and food.
We had Oliver as our server and he was very attentive and detailed we enjoyed our dinner!
Table was great . Waitress was friendly.
I feel like the menu was very limited. The waitress told us that the food is more for sharing with others so portions are smaller , which we had no idea. We prefer more food for the price u pay. Pizza was tasty .
Thanks again . My family has made 1909 the place to eat and meet every time we are in Tofino.
The Chef has created a wonderful menu for all to enjoy with new dishes each time. All 5 of us had something different from the menu and we all went home very satisfied and happy with our choices.
I was delighted that chef had mushroom gnocchi with foraged mushrooms from the area. After watching chef on Top Chef Canada I was hopping that he would have a mushroom dish on the menu and I was not disappointed.
I would say this was a 5 star meal and a 5 star chef thanks again Chef Paul Moran.
We had a nice time and the food was excellent. It was my parents 50th anniversary and I had made note of it in my booking. Didn't expect anything, but was a little surprised that no one at 1909 made mention of or congratulated my folks.
