1856 Bar and Grill
Serving wines on tap, a varied wine list, craft beers with focus on local brews, &, inventive cocktails are available.
Came early to have a chat with family over dinner, then stayed for a couple of live songs by a local musician. Lovely evening!
There was some issue with the server and the bartender had to wait on us. He was super nice. They brought me the wrong plate so I had to wait an extra 5 minutes.
Even though there were issues, I would recommend this place. The food is good and I am hoping that the service issues were just an anomaly.
My husband and I took two of our Grandchildren on a Saturday around 4:15 pm. We enjoyed the food and service was great. Recommend trying if in Lawrence.
Whether you sit at the bar for a drink and a bite to eat, or sit down with a group for dinner and wine, 1856 delivers on flavor, variety of dishes, price points and warm professional service. Most recently, we were a family group of 6 dining near the bar area, including three out-of- towners from Atlanta, NYC and Beijing. We ordered a number of appetizers (tuna tartare was delicious, tasty buffalo wings, along with the baked pesto and goat cheese, which they were able to serve that is no longer on the menu.) Their salads are delicious (best Caesar!), and chef-made pastas are also top notch. (We ordered the Pomodore with tagliatelle and pork shoulder and the beef filet special came with a side of pasta with a delicious tomato-based sauce.) The KC strip was also very well-prepared. Everyone was most impressed with the relaxed warm atmosphere, attentive service and execution of a variety of delicious dishes and chef specials at a very moderate price for the caliber of food served. (Alex is also a wonderful bartender!) We locals will be back, and continue to share this gem of a local restaurant with friends and family!
The macaroni and cheese fritters were awesome. We ordered chicken friend steak and steak, both delicious. Our friends had the Cuban sandwich and chicken also both great!
My husband and I went with several friends for lunch. It was a group of 10 and they did all kind of efforts so we can gave a nice experience. Food, service and ambience were excellent. We will go back again soon.
Service was great, ambiance was great, and the food was good. Good selection of food but the menu is sort of unorganized and confusing.
Food was wonderful. Service was great. They accommodated a good size party on Mother's Day without a hitch. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great food and lovely cocktails in an open, inviting atmosphere.
Beautiful open patio door night with small breeze. Food was delicious, as were the cocktails. We could carry on quiet dinner conversation without yelling.
They were very accommodating to our large party
We enjoyed our experience at 1856. Attentive staff and very good food. The menu had a good variety. Enjoyed the doors that open to the sidewalk on a nice evening. We would go there again.
Like the new menu, and can't beat the location. Service can be a little hit or miss.
It was our 30th wedding anniversary. I let the restaurant know when I made the reservation. No mention at all. The server was a nice guy, but didn’t seem happy to have us at all. The food was good, just good. Nothing spectacular.
The food was great. The server was helpful and fast. Great overall experience!
This is one of the worst meals we've had. Macaroni balls had a weird taste. Steaks were chewy and the pasta bolonaoze had a weird taste
The food was good. Fried pickles were about the best I had. Not enough meatballs on the meatball sandwich, but it was tasty. The server did a good job but there were too many tables per server, so service was a bit slow and rushed.
Food was good but our three meals came out at three different times. The side of asparagus came out before all meals, even though it wasn’t an appetizer! The crust on the creme brûlée wasn’t crunchy and there was no pre-meal bread (like there used to be). Despite this it’s a beautiful space and when the service bugs are worked out I’m sure it’ll be just fine.
All was just OK. Not sure if we would dine there again.
I ordered a salad with salmon, but got chicken instead. It wasn’t worth sending back and having to wait so I didn’t say anything. I was charged correctly and it was good.
Particularly great service from the host and Alex, and a perfect place for Valentine’s Day. Thank you!
Great food, Great service. The waiter was quick to refill our water. My salad came out fast and the fruit was delicious. My husband had a steak that was prepared perfect.....good prime meat. I tried the gluten free pasta with chicken..and loved it.
We will be back A LOT!!! Seated quickly...nice seat overlooking Mass Street!!
Kitchen was still working out some timing issues. One patron didn’t get his main dish until the rest of the table was finished with their main course. Wait staff very apologetic and gave us some drinks and desserts for free. Appetizers and desserts were wonderful. Some main dishes needed some improvement.
I made a reservation on Open Table for dinner. When we arrived the restaurant was closed for renovations which left us in a bind to find someplace to eat for a party of five. The management needs to stop taking reservations during a time that they know will be closed.
I made reservations through opentable but when I showed up it was under renovation. Another guy walked in behind me because he ordered food online. So much for my first date..
Open table made the reservation we drove 30 miles and the restaurant was closed for renovations. Update your files very disappointed
Good food service Enjoyed experience.
We had a lovely meal and a pleasant time on the occasion of our 44th anniversary. The food was outstanding and the service gracious and friendly.
Food was delicious, service was top-notch. We had so much fun!!
Host definitely gave away our reservation to another large group so we were upstairs in a booth/table that they pushed together and was uncomfortable. Some of our orders were incorrect. Coffee was lukewarm. We said all this to the waitress who was extremely nice - not her fault at all - but said there was no where else to move us.
Service was a little slow and the server placed an automatic 20% gratuity on a party of 7. Never was offered a refill on my tea.
They were closed. Someone should have passed the word on to Open Table so that I couldn't make a reservation.
We recently dined at Genovese prior to a basketball game. It wasn't busy. Service was friendly and prompt. The food was good, and good variety offered on the menu. Best of all was the tremendous value at Happy Hour!
Service was exceptional and the food was outstanding, that red velvet cake was to die for! Definitely will be back.
They had no chef and we were told that when we arrived. They had closed for several hours because there was no chef. Waitress was unable to answer common questions. Food was mediocre. Had eaten there before and enjoyed all but one entree. Very disappointed this time.
Unfortunately we waited 45 min for our entree. Instead of offering an already open bottle of wine, the server should have suggested we put our order in before a table of 30 ordered. We had been there long enough having appetizers for her to do this without rushing us. Also, I don’t really care tgey hadz party of 30, I only care about my dinner and my experience. It’s not an excuse so stop telling me about your table of 30.
We had a party of 15 for Mom's 80th Birthday and it went flawlessly. Food was excellent, atmosphere was excellent. It was great to show other out of town family a really good night. Thank you.
They have s lovely weekend breakfast and brunch!l and not too crowded!
none of us enjoyed our meals. undercooked. overcooked. ingredients did not smell or taste fresh. we have all eaten there before and enjoyed it. this time was definitely a bad experience. kitchen is off their game.
Small portions but very good food!
