1817 at Guinness Open Gate Brewery
Fabulous time, great atmosphere. Fun to look around at the exhibits, though unfortunately the brewery tours were full. Recommend coming early to enjoy outdoor atmosphere. Reservations essential for dining room on weekend.
My party had a great time. The only issue, sad to say was one of my friends had to wait quite a while for her flight to come out. A couple of wait staff came over and took her flight list and placed it back down. She was the last person to get her drinks. My other friend had ordered the avocado crab toast, which was difficult with all the additional toppings on the toast.
Great Time! Highly Recommend it!!!!!
Great atmosphere, beer selection, and food. The service is excellent.
The food was amazing and our server was great in answering all our questions. My only regret is that we wanted to be seated by the windows and was seated in the center of the dining area.
Excellent food. Great beer flights. Will return next time in Maryland.
Will definitely return and try the outside bar, and different menu items
The food was over-priced and the service was really slow. My chili was too spicy to eat so I ate the bread only. Beer was good, as I would expect.
Our waiter Guillermo (sp?) was excellent and knows the menu well. He was very informative as it was our first time there. The hosts were not pleasant however. We walked up and the two hosts were standing there looking straight at us and didn’t say anything. I had to speak first and tell them we had a reservation. The female host rolled her eyes and said that they will call us when the table is ready. The encounter was anything but warm and friendly. Overall we enjoyed ourselves and the waiter made up for the lack of customer service from the hosts. The food Came out quickly and was delicious however the crispy pork belly was not crispy at all. It was more like they seared it on both sides just to be cooked enough to be eaten.
The food is a hit-or-miss. Crab Bisque and Guinness Burger were pretty good, but one of the flatbreads was pretty bad while the scallops were overpriced although not bad. The flourless chocolate cake was okay but overpriced too. Service was okay; I had to ask for my water to be refilled every time even though my waiter could obviously see that it was empty. The only things that redeemed the night were the different Guinness flavors unavailable elsewhere, Crab Bisque and Guinness Burger. Pretty loud. We reserved a table (preferred a booth in the reservations) for two; when we got there on time, we had to wait several minutes while we saw them split up an already small table into what seemed like a 2x3ft table as close to the door as possible. No privacy. Not comfortable. Too loud with music that didn't fit the (beautiful) decoration and architecture. Felt like typical bar/club music. Food was overpriced (except for a couple items and drinks). I was so excited to go to the Brewery for over the past year since I learned about it, I've also spent a lot of time earning money to spend at expensive restaurants that I hope is worth it: this experience was extremely disappointing for me, and I will not be coming back.
Amazing piece of Ireland right in the heart of Baltimore!!!
The people, the food, & THE BEER!!!
The location is breathtaking!!!
1817 at Guinness Open Gate Brewery is truly a unique place to dine and is one of the new gems of the always up and coming dining scene in Baltimore. I will be coming here on many more occasions with new people so they can experience a wonderful evening. I hope to see some new dishes as well as classic added to the menu. Perhaps a twist on Irish dishes as well as classic ones would be a nice touch.
Appetizers (pork belly and Brussels sprouts) fantastic, entree (beef stew) good, desserts samples just okay. Cherry one was just a mouth full of cherries at the bottom and chocolate one just a mouth full of chocolate crumbs at the bottom. Tasted good, but layers we're off.
Lastly, try the red wine Guinness..it's amazing!
The place is very nice, on the second floor so you have a view of the whole brewery. The Brussel sprouts were my favorite! The aoili was delicious as well. The kale cesar was good, not heavy on dressing. The chicken sausage had too much sausage in my opinion. Overall, it was a good experience.
Everything provided was wonderful. I would just say that I felt rushed by the service – from ordering to the timing of how were served even though it was a later evening dinner reservation (7:15pm). Our appetizers were out for less than 10 minutes before our entrées came out as well.
Fish was overcooked and soggy - bummer for $35. Not going back - stick with the beer downstairs...
Awesome food, service, and beautiful location. The beer selection was amazing! Can’t wait to come back and go on a tour of the brewery!
Wonderful experience. Wonderful staff. Great beers. Great time! Highly recommend
Thank you for the glowing review, Samantha! Please come back to see us again.
For those who enjoys beers and great atmosphere, this is the place for you. Great Courtyard and Great beer. I would recommend the Tap Room for a quick bite to eat. I would not recommend 1817. I think their food is a bit pricey for what it is. I ordered the Bangers and Mashed and it was not bangers at all. It was Knockwurst. That is not a Bangers. If you can import Irish brew Guinness then you can import real Bangers. The appetizers are good, but the main entree is a lacking.
Donna, thank you for visiting our brewery and 1817! We're sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your meal though. Please share any feedback with us at NewGuinnessBrewery@diageo.c om so we can ensure a better visit next time.
Food took a long time but the manager explained it was because the kitchen was understaffed due to Labor Day. He was honest about it and took the appetizer off the bill as a gesture. It didn’t change the wait but the honesty made up for it. We’ll go back.
Atmosphere outside was great. Dining atmosphere was good, but drinks & food took a long time to get. Appetizers and first round of drinks came within a reasonable time. Second round of drinks took 30 minutes to receive. Entree's took more than 30 minutes and food was cold. It was a holiday Sunday, Labor Day but they did not have enough staff.
Thank you for visiting 1817! We're sorry you had a long wait time and appreciate your patience. Please share any additional feedback with us at NewGuinnessBrewery@diageo.c om so we can ensure a better visit next time.
The food was very good, but overpriced. Also there is no kids menu, and very few options on the menu that are kid-friendly. Service was not great (slow, had to ask for water glasses to be refilled, had to pack away our leftovers at the table), and when you pay $34 for an entree, you kinda want good service. The restaurant is modern and has nice panoramic views. If you are a beer-lover, you will put up with the short-comings. Next time, best to leave the kids home and allot more time, enjoy a leisurely - like really leisurely - beer.
Loved it, so European and I will come back with my family.
Thank you, Erika! We can't wait to host you and your family.
It was our first time at 1817, and it exceeded out expectations. I pass by it everyday, and I never would have guessed it was that nice on the inside, and on the outside, for that matter. If you have kids, bring them. The outdoor area has plenty to do to entertain them. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly, and the drinks, well... those speak for themselves! I would highly recommend 1817 to anyone.
We appreciate the positive review, Shonda! We hope you'll be back to dine with us again soon.
The beef stew was fantastic! Large portion and the beef was tender. My husband had the burger and he said it was fantastic also. The servers were very knowledgeable about the menu and the beer selection. Everyone was very friendly and positive. Comfortable and enjoyable experience
Thank you for visiting us! We hope you and your husband will be back for another date night soon. Cheers!
Just don’t eat there. Overpriced and limited menu, gf found plastic wrap in her soup. They did try to make up for it with a free round of beer and 2 free entrees but still. Plastic wrap? Wait staff was great .
Brandon, we are so sorry to hear about this inconvenience during your visit. If there's anything else we can do, please email us at NewGuinnessBrewery@diageo.c om. Thank you!
We attended brunch and the food was delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meals and the variety of beers available is amazing. Something for everyone.
We're so glad everyone had a great experience! Hope you'll come back to try our lunch or dinner menus next!
Outside area and building are really cool. Food was OK at best. Server was very nice and very accommodating.
Jason, thank you for visiting 1817! We're sad to hear you didn't enjoy your meal though. Please share any feedback with us at NewGuinnessBrewery@diageo.c om so we can ensure a better visit next time.
Open Gate never disappoints. Great service, excellent food. We will be back.
Very attractive venue. Our waitress was very attentive and interactive. The food was very tastefully done and good.
We're happy you had a great time, Annette! Thank you for dining with us.
Second visit. First visit was outstanding but second visit not as good. I ordered the same dish because it was good the first but this time it was too peppery and not very well prepared. The beer was good and the service was pretty good. I will go back. Mostly posting review to encourage management to work on making sure food is prepared consistently.
Hi Rosie, thank you for sharing this feedback! We're sorry you didn't have a consistent experience and will be sure to pass this feedback along to our team.
Great atmosphere and good food. Please go lighter on the salt. The crab bisque was too salty and shrimp in the chopped salad were ice cold.
We appreciate the feedback and will be sure to pass along to our team. Thank you!
Great beer, impressive tour / beer tasting and good food. Take the tour; it’s worth it!
Incredible beer menu! Great ambiance-really neat place.
Overpriced food on a limited menu. Pricey but all food portions are small, appetizer-size. You have to request salt/pepper shakers for your table. We will not be returning to the Barrel House. The brewery tour was awesome though! It lasted about 45 mins, was filled with lots of interesting historical facts and included beer tasting for $15.
We would definitely recommend and already have. We have eaten here twice in the last three weeks primarily because our first experience (reservation for 4) was so wonderful. We immediately coordinated schedules and reserved our table for eight for the return visit. All staff we encountered were very knowledgeable and from dining, to beverages, to the tours and tastings everyone in our party enjoyed the experiences.
The food was great and Justin, our server provided information on the best food and beer selection. Love this place!
This was our first visit to the Open Gate Brewery and we will return. The food was excellent. There were many more beer options that we expected. The restaurant looked great. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.
This was our second time at 1817 though the first time was very different as there were 7 adults and a toddler. Granted that time was also a very good experience just a lot noisier overall.
This time was just my wife and I and we had a very enjoyable brunch and the noise level was much more restrained; but it wasn't as busy as our first trip since we were there earlier in the day this time.
We both had the 1817 burger which were very well prepared and delicious. We started off with a flight each, the Guinness brown bread with Kerry Gold butter and the cinnamon rolls. We actually got an order of the bread to take home.
When we finished we went to enjoy the lovely weather at one of the picnic tables they have set up. They also have tables with Adirondack chairs set up also.
All in all it was a very enjoyable day.
It was great.
