Welcome to 1799. This is Franklin’s Kitchen & Bar Room. Where neighbors and travelers sit side by side, and a good meal becomes something more. I made the reservation 3 weeks prior and specifically requested one of their private booths. When I arrived I was seated elsewhere and inquired about my seating request. After a little checking I was seated as originally requested. The server started a pleasant chat and I knew by her questions she had read the comments in my reservation. As food was delivered I requested a second mixed drink from the bar. 15 minutes passed and I had almost completed my meal when I asked server about drink. Her reaction confirmed she had forgotten it. About 5 minutes later the drink appeared-there was certainly no sense of urgency in dealing with the bar. The oysters were raw….not quite what is suggested by menu (“basted”….and server said they were char-grilled). The trout was average, salmon was “uninspired”. The Parmesan-crusted gigante beans were delicious. In summary, everyone was personable and courteous, but service—beginning with seating, meal, and bar service were just average. Was expecting a top-tier experience based on ads and comments. It was not.

Been many times before and food was the excellent but this time not so. My wife had trout and it was bland- no real seasoning. I had the lamb ribeye ($68) and it was tough (ordered medium with little pink) and no flavor. The bread has changed. ($5 per serving). Not sure what has happened? New management or chef or kitchen ??

Initially received wrong order, waited for issue to be corrected. Asked for salt and received an empty salt dispenser. Did receive choice of free dessert for wife birthday.

This place was absolutely amazing from the service to the food. Our waiter was phenomenal and knowledgeable. He gave great recommendations. We had the Bison strip and the rainbow trout and shared the potatoes au gratin. Everything was delicious! We will definitely be back.

It was a wonderful surprise to walk into 1799 and discover such a beautifully decorated restaurant. The romantic touches throughout truly set a special mood. You don't always associate hotel restaurants with such a quaint and inviting ambiance, but 1799 certainly delivers. The exceptional service was the next highlight of our experience. Timmy immediately made us feel comfortable and promptly brought us some of the dishes we were eager to try. And the food! Everything was absolutely delicious and incredible. From the warm bread to the decadent dessert, every dish was tastefully prepared and presented. A special shout-out to the general manager Sarena A. for making us feel so welcome and at ease. As local Franklin residents, we are keen to continue promoting 1799. We look forward to the next visit!

They have a new menu (just in the last week), with some very good choices. I went with the old standby, though, the Petit Filet Oscar with smoked green beans and bernaise sauce, and my spouse had the Cedar Plank Arctic Salmon with Salt Roasted Carrots as her side. We also split the wedge salad. The wedge salad was excellent, not smothered by dressing like sometimes happens elsewhere. Had blue cheese, quail eggs, bacon and tomatoes in it as well. The Filet was cooked to perfection, with just a bit of crab on top (note: no asparagus in this version of Filet Oscar), and the green beans were also excellent. My spouse's salmon was cooked perfectly, and tasted delicious. I would say the carrots were a bit too al dente, but otherwise fine. Oh, I also had an old fashioned before dinner, which was also excellent. Service was fine...not too fast, not too slow. Overall, a very good meal!
