Voted best steaks and most romantic restaurant at the beach.
We always enjoy our meal here and owner is very accommodating.
My husband and I are from NJ and came to DE in October. Everyone recommended 1776. It was so great that we couldn’t wait to eat there again this past weekend. The place was packed and everyone seem to get the same great service as the next table. It was not as loud as you would have expected. I love the restaurant.
This was my 2nd visit last year had great service. Had the same server as last year and service was not very good this time around. Food was still very good!
Great place - food always good. service is amazing. Love this place
Absolutely LOVED 1776. We are going back for our anniversary. Every bite was amazing. The service was amazing. Our server was wonderful! 5 stars doesn’t feel like enough for this restaurant. Can’t wait to go back!!
This was my husband and I’s First time dining at this restaurant. The service was great and the food was phenomenal. The owner stopped at our table to ask about our meal and he was super nice. We will definitely be returning back to this establishment!
I made my reservation for Valentine's Day right after New Years. Very disappointed that we were seated in the bar area and the portions of the sides were much smaller than normal, will probably stick to coming for lunch.
Busy night but 1776 ran flawlessly. Food, beverages and service were outstanding
As always, the food was delicious. Ellie was very attentive and nice. It was our Valentines Day evening the day before, which is our tradition. So is going to 1776!!
Cuisine, service and atmosphere were excellent, as we have come to expect. Though it was Valentine's Day Eve and the restaurant was extremely busy, service was friendly and attentive, and we never felt rushed. Filet mignon and salmon entrees were perfectly prepared, and one of our dining companions and I each ordered the appetizer special - pieces of sweet lobster tail in the sauce usually served with escargot. Chef Tammy is so good that 1776 is one of the few restaurants at which I know I can order any special and never be disappointed.
Great food and attentive staff. The tables are placed close together so it's hard to not overhear others conversations. It make it hard to have a conversation with your own tablemates.
Wonderful service and food. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Was a great evening even if an app came out frozen in the middle.
Really great dinner and service. Everything was wonderful. Timing on everything was perfect and would absolutely come back!
We had a reservation and were the one of the first to arrive at the restaurant. While the host was on the phone speaking to a guest (which was fine), he pointed us to a table by the front door. It was very windy and cold that day and even if there was a double door (as he later explained) we did not want the table. We were willing to wait till he was off the phone to discuss seating options. He pointed us again to the front door table and appeared slightly annoyed that we wanted a cozier table. Other than that, the food was excellent.
Great service from multiple people. The food was very good, which it must be to have 1776 survive at the relatively high price point.
Very nice restaurant.
Expensive but we knew that before we went.
Would only be able to go for some very special event.
While we waited to be seated for our table, we had a great conversation with the owner Tom. The food was perfection served to us by our attentive waitress Jodi.
Our server, Robert was excellent, with a dry humor. Very knowledgeable about the steaks and specials. Manager was quite knowledgeable about the beers. Ambiance was good, maybe not great. We very much enjoyed our meals and overall experience. We will definitely be back!
This was an anniversary dinner . Enjoyed our meal. We will never understand why their desserts are $10 each.
Service good. Crab cake tasted a bit funky. Not a lot of flavor. Steak was good.
Food was wonderful. However, the reservation and seating system was poor for this type of steakhouse. When we arrived, there was no table available and eventually we were placed at a table literally next to the kitchen door.
We've enjoyed many lunches and dinners at 1776 and have never been disappointed by any aspect of this well-established fixture on the Delaware shore dining scene.
On our most recent visit, a Saturday evening, the house was full and a sign at the door cautioned that the restaurant was fully booked for the evening. Thankfully, we reserved ahead via Open Table and were promptly seated. Our appetizers (scallop chips), salad (mixed field of greens), entrees (salmon, eight-ounce filet) and dessert (house-made lemon meringue pie) were fabulous. Despite the packed house, service was friendly, courses were well-paced and both steak and fish were perfectly cooked, just as we ordered them. Jazz pianist Bernard Sweetney plays on Friday and Saturday evenings, just loud enough to be heard in the background but not so loud as to interfere with conversation.
Several new steakhouses have opened in the beach area within the last year. They're good, but literally twice the cost of most entrees at 1776. With consistently excellent food, dependably friendly and professional service, and a comfortable dining environment enhanced on many evenings with live entertainment, 1776 offers value that can't be beat.
Love this place! Will keep coming back and bring more customers with us. Thanks!
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience; the service, food and attention to detail were terrific and would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone
Excellent steak and scallops! Great VO Manhattan! Attentive, knowledgeable waiter. Never rushed! Great evening for our special occasion. See you in April for our anniversary.
We had an awesome anniversary dinner. We definitely will be back.
I took my sisters to 1776 for a family dinner. We have a great experience. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We plan to go back soon.
We were a party of six old friends who had not seen each other in over a year. We appreciated the soft piano music in the background which allowed us an easy catch-up conversation. The food was excellent. I had the catch of the day and the fish was perfectly prepared. The others enjoyed their entrees and the dessert takers raved about the cream brûlée . The waiter was attentive but not hovering. A wonderful meal!!!
Wait staff was friendly and prompt. Food was delicious. Lemon Drop Martini was worth coming back for.
Great food, service and libations. We look forward to our next visit!
It was our first time there and really loved it! Owner was very personable. It would of been nice to be able to hear the piano player better, especially since we booked our reservation to be there for the “entertainment”, We highly recommend it and hope to be back soon!
Service in incredible, but the food is just not good. Steaks are just sub par. I ordered the Delmonico and it was terrible. I had been to this restaurant before and it was not good but it is so popular that i decided to try again. Again, I am just not sure why everyone loves the steaks here as there are so many better options in Rehoboth and Lewes.
My wife and another married couple had a great dining experience. Service was outstanding, food was excellent and even sitting close to the piano we were able to carry on a conversation without having to raise our voices. Will recommend this restaurant to our new friends at the beach.
We had the most tender filet we have ever had! Service was impeccable, not invasive. Piano player was right next to us and we could still hear each other.
Great place, will go back very soon and bring some freinds!
After more than 3 years of living in the area we finally made it to 1776, after having passed by it by dozens of times on the way to the movie theater in the same strip mall. The outside is very uninspiring, but the inside opens up to a different world. A very nicely done interior with great ambiance and food to match. Service was good, although the piano was a little hard to hear if you weren't up close. Had the black ravioli as an appetizer, the barrel cut steak as a main course and the brulee cheesecake for desert, all excellent.
Outstanding as always. best steakhouse in Delaware hands down
We are new to the area and had heard very nice things about 1776 and decided to check it out at lunch. It was merely ok. They have a very limited luncheon menu, which is fine, but basically it's sandwiches and salads. It was very slow on Saturday, literally there were only two other tables with people in the restaurant. One table was two gentlemen and they were so loud we might as well have been seated with them and they were across the room. We had a calamari appetizer to share and it was sub par to say the least, about what I would expect from a chain restaurant. I had a salad with crab cake and it was alright but the dressing which I had served on the side was way too sweet. The menu listed desserts and we asked about the chef's special and were told that it didn't exist at lunch which was news to us since it was listed on the lunch menu. Overall, I don't see any reason to try again since there are so many restaurants that are great in Sussex County. I am disappointed though, 1776 has a great reputation and we didn't get any indication as to why it is so highly thought of. Not sure that I'd want to risk the expense of a dinner there if the level of food is the same.
