Poor service. Food took awful long for a burger and salad
This restaurant in Hellertown is a jewel. We’ve eaten there 3 or 4 times now and always enjoyed it. Food, service, and atmosphere are always wonderful.
Good food, nice ambiance, good lunch get-together spot.
While we had previously enjoyed several meals at this venue including my wife's office Christmas party; this visit was disappointing. The server immediately confessed that he was new but made no effort to remedy any shortcomings that come with a new position. He failed to bring water when asked and did not return to the table to take our order for fifteen minutes after the drinks were served. Our salad course arrived a full twenty minutes after the order was placed. Our entrees were done well and arrived hot. At no point during our over two hour dinner did our waiter stop to ask if everything was okay, (ie. water). It will take a lot to get us back again.
I decided on this restaurant because I had read great online reviews and because it was a good halfway point to celebrate my wife's birthday with family. What I mean by a good halfway point is that I live in Union County, NJ; my daughter lives in Warren County, NJ and my son lives in Harrisburg, PA and 1774 Grille my brother-in-law had the porterhouse steak; my wife thoroughly enjoyed her chicken dinner, and everyone else enjoyed their entrees as well.
I'm not sure when, but I will most definitely be returning here for another meal when I can have dinner again with my family when they don't feel like driving all the way to NJ. Now if I lived in Hellertown, PA or nearby towns, I would definitely make it a point to dine here at least once a month, the food is well worth the trip.
The dining area provides nice ambiance. For the price, the food was only average and did not provide the taste experience that I expected. The ice cream/sorbet dessert choice though homemade lacked home crafted flavors. I would expect a restaurant in Hellertown to know its clientele and what demographic they are serving; I do not believe that they do.
We live nearby and return frequently because the menu continues to change,
With new offerings and weekly specials that are very good.
We shared three appetizers, and loved them all.
We had carried entrees, and were happy with all of them, as well.
Lovely quiet local dinner
Ate outside. A loud night on the streets of Hellertown.
Mediocre at best. Ran out of iceberg for wedge salad on a Friday evening. I ordered a “kale Cesar” and got spinach. Did bartender notice? I definitely know the difference! Owner or manager didn’t acknowledge us while we were sitting at the bar.
Try to support local eateries but...Asian spring rolls were drenched in oil. I ordered scallops on bartender recommendation and they were ok.
Why isn’t there any good restaurants in Lehigh Valley?
The service was excellent. The ambience in the dining room was OK - the bar area looked much cooler. The ribeye was outstanding as was the burger. The veal & fettuccini was not good and way overpriced at $30. The scallops were also only mediocre. Our bill for a family of 4 was $235 - expensive compared to other places that we frequent in Easton such as Ocean, Sette Luna, Oak.
Food and service are excellent. This was our second time visiting. First visit was for lunch on a weekend sharing eggrolls as an appetizer and then fish tacos and open-faced steak sandwich which was essentially French Onion soup (flavor-wise) on a plate...delicious. Second visit was for an early dinner enjoying carpaccio and eggrolls (again...yes, they are that good) along with seasonal salads which were both excellent. We're beer snobs so I'll say the offerings were lackluster but there is a great local brewery down the road a bit if you feel so inclined before or after your meal. Found the staff very pleasant and the atmosphere very comfortable and clean. We like the scrolling screens of local history. Bar area was busy on a Friday evening. Definitely recommend!
The food was average in preparation and lacked the flavors as described in the menu. The cost of the meal was far in excess of quality presented. They market themselves as high end restaurant but have a long way to go to attain that designation based on our experience!!
We were pleasantly greeted by the hostess when we came to the restaurant for Father’s Day brunch. Our server was excellent. The food was good.
First visit to 1774 Grille & Tap; would definitely go there again; would recommend to others. Service was great; waitstaff very attentive; took care of the "little" things that made all the difference. Food was fresh and nicely presented. Shared an "off the menu" appetizer. Our salads were the Beet & Goat Cheese and the Baby Frisee and Bibb. Seared Sea Scallops and Marinated Smoked French Chicken Breast were our choice of entrees. Shared a decadent chocolate brownie dish for dessert. Nice pinot noir during the meal...fine coffee with our dessert. An overall fabulous dining experience!!
Three of us met for lunch; it was the first time at this restaurant for all of us. We sat outside on the porch, which is a really nice setting although close to the road with traffic. Our waitress was friendly and eager to please. The food options for lunch were creative and diverse and we all liked our selections. The inside of the restaurant is very nice and looked like it would be a great environment for dinner. We'll be back.
Went for Mother’s Day. The service was absolutely terrible. It took long to get drinks and we were never served water after asking several times. Our waiter didn’t write down our order and then we were given wrong things or had things missing.... ugh. What a shame because it’s a cute place but that put a horrible taste in our mouths!
Went on Mother’s Day our sever gave an order for another table before ours, I was not happy with this and told them so. Other times I’ve gone here it’s always AMAZING
I took my mom here for Mother's Day and was very disappointed. They either over-booked or were under-staffed (or both). We waited over an hour for our food and only saw our waiter 2 or 3 times. We were probably seated for 10-15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. We ordered bottomless mimosas, but since we only saw our waiter twice before getting our bill, I wouldn't call it bottomless. They had tables so packed in the restaurant, making it extremely loud and difficult to hold a conversation. When our food finally came, it was just okay. Definitely not worth the hour we waited for it. Hopefully others have a better experience here when it isn't a holiday, but I would not recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
We never had a chance to actually sit down. I think they took too many reservations for Mother’s Day which was surprising because you had to leave a CC # to reserve it. Waited 30 mins past our res time and decided to leave because took 20 mins to order a drink, they ran out of OJ for mimosas, flat champagne, flat ginger ale and didn’t carry basic bourbon my husband drinks. Maybe it was just a bad day to judge the restaurant but no one sitting had food and everyone just seemed to be really unorganized. Even the free valet in the front was no where to be found.
It was Mother's Day and they were completely overbooked and understaffed. We waited an hour for our table and our order was finally taken at 1:20 pm even though we had a 12:00 reservation. Kim the owner failed miserably in that she basically ignored many disgruntled customers including us.
Always great food. The waitresses have always been friendly and great.
The servers are very cordial, friendly and attentive. I had two good cocktails and the shrimp and grits was very well seasoned! I would definitely go back to try other items on the menu! Portion sizes are very adequate so plan on going on an empty stomach!
Second time there - first was a Sunday evening. It was quiet in the restaurant and we had excellent service and the food was very good and well presented. So took a friend for a Thank You dinner and it was horrible!!! Rolls were supposedly homemade, flat and doughy - when mentioned to waitress she said they are working on them and I mentioned how this wasn’t what I had a few weeks before - she said they most likely were store bought!! Then the calamari that I had before - was half the amount with more peppers than calamari and a lot of crumbled fry batter. The salads were 98% lettuce. The caprese has two very small slices of mozzarella with two slices of tomatoes on top of a MOUND of mixed greens. My beet salad was the same - again NOTHING like the first visit. My guests “sweet potato hash browns” were two 1/4” slices underneath her steak and my monkfish and garnish was over salted and overcooked! Then the ricotta cheesecake came out in 2 triangles that were maybe 3/4” high and dry! I was So incredibly disappointed. My guests margaraita was mostly water. The last group I went with ordered mixed drinks said the same. The only thing that was decent was my glass of prosecco. The waitstaff was inpatient with me as I didn’t sign check immediately. There was only 1 other table in restaurant - they weren’t closing either as it wasn’t even 9 pm. So overall if you want to keep up with some of the other restaurants in the area - consistency is VITAL!
The renovations of the historic building was done so tastefully. The owner gladly answered questions about the venue and accommodations for special events. the food is outstanding and the portions are generous. They have local vineyard wine and brews. It was pleasant to sit out on the patio to dine. Keep in mind it can be noisy since it is right on street level. Second visit here and have not been disappointed.
We went to this restaurant for lunch when we were in Hellertown a few months ago. We decided to go for dinner. The waitress was great. The food was great too. We split the calamari and wedge salad. I had a burger- i have not had a great burger here for years. I am not a fan of the burgery and think its overpriced. My husband had the tuna. We loved everything. Great tap beer selections and the waitress recommended a wine for my husband and he said it was good.
we will be back.
Love this neighborhood spot. One of our favorites. Menu is kept up-to-date seasonal, so always nice to have different options. Cocktails are really yummy too!
Fantastic atmosphere! Great food! Friendly service! Recommend highly for a flavorful, hearty, and fresh meal!
The food could not have been better selection was great. The service was terrible, forgot to put in our appetizer but sincerely apologized. Did not return to the table to ask if we wanted more drink. We had to hunt the waiter down for a dessert menu. Owner came out and Comped our dessert for the mistake. Waiter brought the bill out and it included the comped dessert!! Lol, that's how the whole night went. Anyway, we made light of it and the food was so good we will definately go back and give it one more shot. Will look for a different waiter though.
Everything was wonderful
Really enjoyed our meal. I was disappointed though in that the advertisement in the Go Guide said Jazz brunch but there was no live music. I didn't understand why they called it that.
Otherwise, everything was great.
I was really disappointed with our Easter brunch. The service was horrible. Our waiter was never around. We paid $12 for bottomless mimosas and only was able to get 2 in the hour and a half we were there. I had ham with vegetables. The ham was good. My vegetables were chopped tomatoes with a few bland, cold boiled brussels sprouts thrown on top. My husband had the lobster benedict. It was cold and the poached eggs were more the consistency of hard boiled. We had family in from California, and quite frankly, it was embarrassing. We won't be back.
Good meals except fruits that were not in season. Entrees a little high priced.
Wow. What a place. Food is excellent along with service. Was a quiet night and nice and cozy. Will get there as much as possible when we visit from Texas.
Our meal was great with the exception of our server disappearing midway through the evening to never be see again. Eventually someone else brought our food out to us and asked if we needed anything almost 30 minutes after the server vanished. I would recommend the meal and the ambiance but the service needs work. Also the prices are a little high. We will give it another try as maybe they just had a bad night.
The service was excellent; friendly and attentive. The food was very good. 1774 is a nice entry in the Farm to Table restaurant niche.
This was our first time and we will definitely go back! The food was excellent as was our server Joey!
Good time good food. Salad dressing was not to our liking. Servers could be more polished. Great atmosphere, great entrees, nice portions.
We have been to events at the Terrace previously, but this was our first time for regular dining service. Overall unimpressed by the experience. We were here for Valentine's Day and Bethlehem Restaurant Week, and ordered off that menu. My appetizer came out wrong, and then took some time to have the correct one come out. Then my entree was wrong too, but I decided to have it anyway since that was my option B, but the fish was undercooked and bland. We took dessert to go, since it was over 20 minutes after our plates were cleared. I could see the staff was stressed (when they were actually on the floor) but it didn't help with the incorrect meals/bland food. Would not mind coming back again for a banquet, but would not come back for private dining.
