The food is better now than the past three restaurants that were in that place. A welcome change!
We went on a recent Saturday night. My wife and I have been eating out every weekend, but exclusively outside since COVID-19. There were nineteen people ahead of us on a list for outdoor seating, so we agreed to eat inside. The views of the falls and the village are spectacular, but I thought about taking a picture of the inside of the restaurant and sending it to DeWine because there was little to no evidence they were practicing social distancing. I'm not sure they could put any more tables inside if they tried. I wouldn't go here on a weekend night if you're even remotely squeamish about the virus.
The food itself was very good. Their biscuit appetizer was wonderful and the portions were large. My wife enjoyed her seafood dish and their pork ribs were excellent. Where dinner got really messed up was they brought our entrees maybe sixty seconds after the salad and appetizer arrived. The manager did comp us the appetizers as a result, but for what is now one of the higher end restaurants in the village the timing of the arrival of the food was totally unacceptable. We didn't order dessert.
If we didn't still have a lot of value on a gift card we'd been given, I'm not sure we'd go back between the density of the seating arrangement and the issues with service, but we'll probably give it a second chance because of the food. With that said, we'll probably wait for a weeknight with a raging snowstorm and relatively few people in the restaurant, and wait until we're done with our salad/appetizer before ordering our entrees.
The space has so many tables crammed into it that there is no way anything is space 6 ft apart. We sat in a banquette across from the window. My husband had someone 2 feet from his right side and I had someone 2 feet from my left side. There are 3 people at a table maybe 4 feet across from us. The walkways are so narrow we repeatedly watched wait staff bump into one another. The service was uneven we waited 10 minutes until we saw a waiter. The couple next to us gout their appetizer then 2 min later got their meal. The manager did come speak with them. I had the salmon which was good . My husband had the steak frites . The steak was practically raw and chewy but he didn’t send it back because it took so long to come. We loved Jekyll’s it was a nice upscale location for a lovely quiet dinner. This place is like a Friday’s with a slight upgrade . Dissatisfied won’t go back.
Avoid going on weekends if you want a peaceful dinner. Very loud and crowded. We received our main course before we finished eating our appetizers.
Food was good.
Food, service and view were all exceptional! Will be back soon!
Location and Food is amazing. Best view in Cleveland
Extremely friendly and attentive staff. Beautiful view and great updates to the building. Food although priced similar to prior establishment - had less overall options and less attention to detail. Was not asked how I wanted my steak prepared, options for vegetarians very limited...appetizers while decent were a bit overpriced. Drinks took a long time to arrive - between 10-15 min minimum. It’s a new establishment during a unique situation - so appreciate there are details to be ironed out. Again great atmosphere with very attentive staff... I will visit again in the future- after they have had more time to settle in.
we went to 17 river grille to celebrate my son's birthday...we sat by the windows near the falls..view was great. we had wonderful honey biscuits, a great pal salad, a fantastic steak and the best warm carrot cake for dessert...we all enjoyed ourselves and glad we went there for the celebration..
We arrived early for our reservations. Very accommodating nice views of the fall! We asked to move seats to get the fall experience staff was very accommodating. T
It’s such a nice spot. We loved the outdoor seating and the friendly young servers. The food is ok. The tuna bowl was really eh and unfortunately 3/4 of us ordered it. Not poison but not great either.
The biscuits were outstanding. The rest was so-so. Simply unremarkable. Disappointing.
First time there. Beautiful environment. Food was good and ambit was great
food was excellent, view of the river amazing, server you could tell was new, not very attentive , otherwise great dining
Superb experience. The ambiance was amazing. Food was delicious and service was excellent as well. The new layout is fantastic and we had great seats as well.
Noise level is moderate but not bad enough to dampen your own voice.
Overall, 5 star experience
Great view of the falls. Music playlist was top notch, very nice Saturday night that I would recommend to others.
Food was amazing!
Arrived early but had to wait at least 15 minutes past our reservation time. Hostess was very nice and kept checking back with us. The restaurant is beautiful... looks much larger now with new layout. Bar was packed, as was outside area. Drinks were just ok. They were out of the only IPA on draft. Cocktail was average at best. Biscuit appetizer was small but good. Menu has a nice selection of salads and entrees. Service was attentive.
The view is outstanding! The overall atmosphere is great. It is loud, but manageable.
Since opening in August, this has become a regular Friday night stop (or midweek escape) for our family. We live just up the street and the relaxing space, tasty food, and nice setting are a great way to begin the weekend.
Though the menu offerings have been nice since day 1, the recently-expanded version (another half dozen or so choices) adds just enough more in the way of entree and dessert choices to finally make the menu feel complete, not truncated.
As the restaurant hits its 1 month birthday, it is beginning to be more consistent in food quality and service - and we are beginning to find some real favorites on the menu, including the 4 super, new-to-the-menu-this-week dishes we enjoyed tonight: a good tuna/salmon sushi, a fantastic tuna nicoise salad, delicious trout w/lobster (full of chunks!) butter, and a subtle, surprisingly great carrot cake.
17 River has become the center of Chagrin's dining and social scene almost overnight. A great spot we will continue to enjoy. (Oh, and the views...)
Wonderful food, service and ambiance! My daughter and I had a great time.
My experience at 17 River Grille was amazing! We went for my mother's birthday and she had a great time. The food and service were EVERYTHING! Not to mention the view of the river. Be sure to request a window seat when dining in! We will be back!
Very good would recommend it. Loved the scenery!!
Service was horrific I had to go to the bar to get my own drinks could never find a waitress and management was not helpful
The view from this restaurant was excellent the service was OK. Completely disappointed on every item we had on the menu. For appetizers we had calamari, the biscuits and oysters. oyatet‘s seemed like they had been Sitting for a while. We had the pork Melanies and a burger for dinner. The burger was extremely greasy. The pork was over done on the outside and the breading was soggy towards the center. We would not stop back in here again unless it was just for a drink and the view.
Loved it! They are really going out of their way to make people happy. Delicious food too.
2nd time here and both times had excellent food and service. Nice job and welcome to the neighborhood!!
Food was great. Diverse menu. Veggie burger very unique and delicious. Pork Chop Milanese was just right. Key Lime Pie authentic and tasty. Service a bit disjointed. A lot of gaps between courses. I'll be back though.
This is a beautiful restaurant and the food was generally good. My biggest complaint is that this restaurant is doing a terrible job with social distancing. Tables are way too close together. No one is enforcing guests wearing masks when they walk around the restaurant. Service was mediocre at best. It was just too crowded. I wont be going back until the pandemic is over.
My boyfriend and I went here for date night Saturday. I worked in the restaurant industry, including management, for 8+ years so I was expecting some kinks/long waits and that wouldn't have bothered me. However, this place blew me awaaaay. For our 5:45 res I'd made a note that we'd like a patio table (knowing it's not guaranteed) and we waited about 15mins at the bar until we were seated. The view was absolutely gorgeous! We ordered the wagyu carpaccio, pan chicken, ribs, and key lime pie and everything was incredible. Portions were so big we both had enough for lunch the next day. Our waitress Mariah was great and attentive, we'll be asking for her next time.
Lovely experience. A little loud at the falls
Good service great view good food will repeat. Staff was great had 830 reservation and waited till 850 to get seated very busy staff was accommodating
This place is perfection. From the food, atmosphere and service - we will be back (often)!
Beautiful establishment. The biscuits are a must! The lemon parm chicken is one of the best meals
in Cleveland, yes I said chicken.
Incredible service ( thanks Marcus, Marie and Courtney)! The food is incredible as well. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. You must get the heavenly biscuits. We loved everything about it.
Our service was great and the food was so delicious. The Heavenly Buns are a must! Well worth the caloric splurge!!! Love the diablo sauce on the Cast Iron Chicken Meatballs. Totally made the appetizer. It was the perfect evening for eating Al Fresco! I cannot wait to come back and explore the entrees! Keep up the great work 17 River Grille Crew!
It's no unfair to say that the ambiance is the cornerstone here, and it delivers. The servers are very nice and attentive & the place is sure to be a staple for years. Food was just ok - oysters are average blue points and the sushi was built to please the novice. We've dined here twice now, the lemon chicken seems to be the go to menu item & it is well prepared, albeit not super flavorful. We'll be back again, certainly with them well.
The food was very good. The service was on par. Next time we will ask for a better view of the falls.
Much improved ambiance/decor from its previous incarnation as Jekyll's Kitchen. Staff seemed more enthusiastic. Simple menu will probably work well for them and mean better execution and consistency. Will see if they can keep up the good work to match our initial experience. Clearly worth a second visit.
I hate to write this because I know the place is new but....The service was beyond bad. Both times and I know they are new but it HAS to improve. Not only inexcusably slow but our server acted very annoyed and basically hated her job and wanted us to feel her pain. Which fine but maybe don’t be in the service industry and make your guests (who are paying a lot of money) feel like a total inconvenience to you. Likely will not go back for a very long time.
Unfortunately this was probably the worst dining experience we have ever had. We were rushed to order from the moment we sat down. We had an 8:30 reservation and were sat at 8:45 were told we had to order immediately because the kitchen closed at 9. Later the manager told us they don’t accept reservations past 8:30pm for this reason however after looking there are available reservations on Sunday evenings all the way up to 9pm. When trying to order they were out of many items, had we been informed of this we could have made our decisions faster. Some of the food was good but some food came out cold or not the way we expected it to be. We were missing an appetizer altogether because they ran out but we were only told when we asked where it was. Desserts were served with the wrong flavor ice cream. Overall the view is really the only positive thing about this restaurant. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out at some point but we will certainly not be back to find out.
Also tables are not spaced properly according to COVID guidelines.
