    1609 Restaurant is possibly the best restaurant in New Kent County. This was our second dinner there and the quality and quantity of the food is exceptional. Amanda, our server, is very personable and attentive without being intrusive. The entire staff is friendly; your are greeted with a smile and warm "hello!". I had the shrimp and grits for dinner. Five large grilled shrimp were tender with a smoky flavor. The grits were well cooked yet firm and not mushy. I had the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. It was a huge serving. The cake was moist and dense with a deep chocolate flavor. Ask for a table at the window overlooking the track. Even when there are no races, the view over the two ponds is wonderful with Canada geese coming and going. I realize this restaurant is at a horse racing track but that takes nothing away from the restaurant. If I could request any changes it would be table cloths and dimmer lighting.

    Really really disappointing. Food was cold. Prices were a bit high. Waitress was kind but we had to wait a very long time for each item. Pork shank was way too salty and clearly leftovers from previous evenings. Vegetables tasteless. We opted out on dessert. It’s a casino! It is not an inviting restaurant as pictured on open table. Oh, and lots and f cigarette smoke at the entrance. So much so our clothes smelled of tobacco smoke when we got home. They really need to do some major changes.

    Great food option in New Kent. Food quality, presentation, and service were excellent. Limited menu options (surprised to see there was no steak or pasta option). Prices are a bit high. The hourly announcements from Rosie’s downstairs were a little annoying. Overall, glad to have an upscale food option in New Kent!

    This restaurant has a long way to go in order to reach "casino" style luxury. Didn't mind spending $20 per plate for Thanksgiving dinner BUT what we received was NOT a $20 meal! 6 adults, 1 child ate at a cost of $320 while 6 adults at a Casino in a neighboring state had a 4 star all you could eat buffet for $118! You tell me what's wrong with that picture. While we LOVE Rosie's being available in Virginia we will not return to 1609.

    What was advertised as a “Thanksgiving Feast” was far less than that. The paltry portion of turkey featured white meat that tasted a processedand dollop of near-minced dark meat. Gravy tasted like it was from a jar. If there had been some white bread under it, it would have been an adequate open-faced turkey sandwich at a diner. Sides were better—the cheddar grits were delicious as were the homemade mashed potatoes. But overall for $19.99 what we ended up was not a bountiful Thanksgiving feast like what was pictured in the ads, but a diner-quality turkey dinner at a price point well above what a diner should charge. $5 dollar soft drinks just added insult to injury. Service was energetic if inexperienced. She tried hard. The restaurant itself lacks atmosphere. No effort to create a Thanksgiving atmosphere. No effort to make this feel special. I’d have been better off with the excellent burger and fries available downstairs. Very disappointing.

    Thank you for a wonderful evening. This was a first experience and our family had different Thanksgiving experiences this year because children had moved away from home. This was the first year our whole family was not together. It felt very different for sure, but we had a great meal and service. Everyone was very nice and polite.

    We were there for the Thanksgiving Feast. Everything when we got there was great fast service, took order right away. Then it went downhill. Everyone in the restaurant got their food before ours. Server kept the tea coming and the biscuits. About 50 min after we got there the manager comes over tells us order was not put in at all. Tells us she will put a rush on it and we will get free dessert. 28 min later we got our food and it was cold. I mean it was pretty good but after waiting that long I was expecting a hot meal. We ate most of it because we were so hungry. So the waitress comes over to take our dessert order and we ask for that to go. And I ask for the manger to come over she never did. But the waitress came over and said she comped our, our meal. I said tell her thank you. On the way out the manager was walking right toward us and she turned her head and didn't even look at us. I said mam she kept going. All I wanted to do was tell her thank you. And we would have give the restaurant another try. Well decided not too. It was so aggravating we didn't even play the slots as much as we would have on the way out which we had planned to do. I don't know if this was a isolated incident or what but I will not return to eat there. But I will go back and play some slots.

    We'd heard the food was expensive and of questionable quality but we had to try it. We were the only patrons in the restaurant at 6 p.m. the day we went. The server was absolutely wonderful and very helpful. The food, however, left much to be desired. The 'southern' greens are NOT our forte and on my wife's plate (of course). Yuck! And her 'roasted chicken' was nothing more or better than any rotisserie you can buy in Food Lion! Definitely nothing to write home about. My shrimp and grits were OK. I've had so much better from both a savory and properly cooked perspective at other more reputable restaurants. My shrimp were overdone and as tough as I'd ever experienced in my half dozen times choosing shrimp and grits (since I really don't like grits...coming from PA). The server was very congenial and supportive but, unfortunately, was not in charge of the kitchen. I'm certainly glad we weren't there when the place was full. The kitchen on the first floor is head and shoulders above the 1609! I do not recommend the current restaurant.

    The staff is top notch. The food was very good. I doubt I’d order tuna poke again though. My brother and sister-in-law showed up unexpectedly and the hostess quickly made room for them which was very nice.

    The food was good but service was slow and unorganized at first. Some sniping between waitresses. Perhaps picturesque during the day, we dined at night.

    1609 has a wonderful & friendly staff, will give good recommendations as for menu choices. Prices really good, and the atmosphere & ambiance was perfect for a date night. Definitely will be making reservations again in the near future.

    We will go back. I think they are still pretty new and improving. We had the 50 cent Oysters which were very fresh and tasty but tiny. My husband had the Crab Cakes which were delicious with no filling! I had the Shrimp and Grits which were okay but needed some Cajun spice in my opinion. They were a little bland. The wine was very good and so was the Velvet Cheesecake Dessert and the Coffee was fresh. Not quite as good as I was hoping but still a nice dinner over all. I was surprised that the only beef on the menu was a Hamburger.

    My thoughts were the food was horrible and for what we got and paid $ 94 Short ribs there was no bone in them and it tasted like roast beef Shrimp and grits was like a soup And $17 dollars fo one crab cake that was like a crab ball Would of been better if there was more selection to choose from like Steamed oysters on a half shell Steak possibly Only thing that tasted good was the drinks Hopefully this feed back will help in the long run we will definitely not be coming back and will definitely let anyone know the same

    As usual, the service was excellent and friendly. The view is nice. The meatball appetizer is enough for two (maybe more) and is yummy! The crab cakes are loaded with crab meat. The chocolate cake and salted caramel cake were great. My only quibble would be that the entrees and sides might have a little more diversity. Overall, definitely recommended!!

    Excellent food and service. Presentation of our fried oysters was wonderful as was the crispy rib appetizer. Overall I look forward to coming back and trying some other items on the menu. Happy hour drinks were great.

    This was my third visit to 1609 and I am going to try every entree. So far the crabcake, salmon with roasted root vegetables and the shrimp and grits have been outstanding. The view of the revitalized Colonial Downs racetrack is stunnning. If you live in or around the New Kent area you will be so pleasantly surprised at the caliber of this restaurant. Or if you don't and want a fun afternoon at Colonial Downs go make some bets and end the evening with a very enjoyable dinner.

    The food is over priced for what you receive and level of knowledgable food service. No salt or pepper available unless you ask, no butter with the hard overbaked biscuits, grits and carrots were under cooked with the 30.00 entree, and for 17.00 crab cake appetizer only one crab cake. And a dirty, food covered dish on our table we were to use for our bread. Has the potential to be a very nice place if you have seasoned, knowledgable staff in place for cooks and service team.

    This is the second time my wife and I have dined at 1609. We both agree that the food and drinks are very good . The overall experience , service, ambiance, etc. Extra Good. I made my reservation thru OPEN TABLE, that was fine, but friends who wanted to join us a few days later got the no reservations available message. I mention this only because Friday night we were greeted at the entrance with a sign that said ..reservations available.. You might consider an alternative way to make reservations ..phone number or your website. We live in Brickshire and look forward to many more dinners at 1609..Thanks, Ken Hislop
