Excellent bar staff and beautiful ocean views. Great choice for a warm evening!

The restaurant refused to honor a confirmed Open Table reservation for outdoor dining. The harried hostess, quite unapologetically explained that 1606 does not take reservations for the deck— yet this was the only type of reservation available on Open Table. The hostess actually blamed Open Table rather than accepting responsibility for the fact that management is too inept to manage its Open Table account properly. Bait and switch? Instead we were seated in a joyless function room with unmasked diners (Covid, anyone?). Atmosphere reminiscent of a home for the aged dining room. Food arrived room temp to cold. Dirty dishes piled up on the table. The polite and cheerful waitress was clearly not trained to serve consistent with $36 entrees. You can and should do much better in Gloucester at local places with more honest operations.

Met an old friend here for early supper on a Monday afternoon. We picked that time knowing it would be quiet. I arrived early to give the server my credit card and to request a birthday candle on our dessert. She was friendly and helpful throughout out meal and delivered the dessert with candle as planned. I had the Caesar salad to start and we both got the 1606 Burger which is always good. I am a fan of their Caesar salad so usually get one when I am there. All in all we had a nice time and the dining experience was pleasant.

We enjoyed a lovely Easter dinner at 1606. It was a prix fixe menu with great options for appetizers, entrees and desserts - hard to choose just one from each! It was a gorgeous day so we got to sit outside on the deck. Food was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. A wonderful time from start to finish.

Good food, great atmosphere and service! Very pleasant experience!

Anniversary

I was a guest and I had a reservation and my party was no accommodated for the bar which was requested at booking

Always a lovely, lively atmosphere. We sat at the bar and even though they had plexiglass dividers we were sitting on top of the other person on either side of us. The service was terrible, it wasn't busy and we kept trying to flag down the bartender to order food. So we ended up leaving after 1 drink and going elsewhere.

Got there and restaurant was not that busy. After 10 min our waitress came over with a menu and took our drink order and we ordered shrimp cocktail for an app. No water for table. Shrimp were dropped at table with no plates or utensils. Shrimp were good size but cocktail sauce was tasteless. We noticed our Waitress picked up a large private party in a separate room. Quite a bit later We told her about shrimp and ordered our meals. My wife had swordfish blackened which was excellent. I had the half chicken which was horrible. Looked horrible on plate and tasted even worse. Asked for dessert menu but waited 20 min before our waitress came back. That’s after I asked another waitress where was our waitress. When she finally came back for desert order I Told her it was too late and said her service was subpar. She said it was due to large party. I complained to on duty supervisor who said she would tell the general manager. We never heard a peep. I would have given lower grades but breakfast next morning was very good with huge portions. Also guests were allowed to close shades during our entire dinner. Most of our view was now gone.

AMAZING CRAB CAKES

Patio seating on a warm sunny day was perfect. Food was slow out of the kitchen but when it came it was perfect. And great service from the waitstaff.

Make sure you ask before ordering! I am allergic to fish. I ordered a lobster Cobb salad without the lobster and was told there would be no adjustment on the price. My husband was not happy.

My parents and I had lunch here. My mom and I had the lobster roll and both were really sick for the next two days. Bottle of champagne was great as was my dads steak

Overall good. Food & ambiance good. However, the appetizer was brought out at the same time as the main course and they forgot to put a birthday candle on the dessert as I had requested prior to the meal.

Wonderful place to be! I was just a little disappointed they didn't follow through with the appetizer & wine specialty they had offered for the night. Why offer it if you are not going to follow through?

I love it there, however, and would go back again!

The lobster bisque was to die for. I'm from Maryland so I am picky about crab cakes. But your appetizer dish was very good.

Fabulous ambiance out on the deck next to the fire-pit on a windy late-winter afternoon (appreciated the complementary blankets!) Excellent menu choices, bolstered by hot toddies; we watched the seagulls and the setting sun over the ocean, and almost forgot about the pandemic. Beauport is our go-to for special occasions.

The lobster bisque is divine! Haddock was great too!

Came for a special occasion and requested particular seating but we were sat right in the middle of the dining room. Menu is confusing - is it fine dining or a gastropub? Wrong entree came out but error was fixed quickly. When right food came out, it was tasty. Would not go back to again, especially for a special occasion. Service was average.

We ate out on the porch on an early spring day of warm weather, in front of the firepit. It was lovely and the food was excellent. The water view is wonderful for Covid escape!

I revived my glass of wine after my soup.

We had the clam chowder and the lobster bisque as appetizers. Both were served luke warm which was disappointing and I found the lobster bisque very bland. The lobster meat was tender though. I would not order either again.

We both ordered the prime rib. I had MR and my guest had an end cut. The best part of the meal was the twice baked potato. The meat was so bland I had to ask for steak sauce, salt and lemon juice to help.

I was left with no beverage for quite awhile. I had to catch the servers eye just to get another wine.

I will say the home made steak sauce was amazing. That was the only saving grace.

Overall I would not visit this restaurant again.

Just ok service, ok food. Come forward the view and don’t eat here.

Breathtaking!

The food was great! The shrimp cocktail was huge, and definitely worth the cost. The short rib sliders were amazing. The beef tenderloin entree, the pork shank entree and the salmon were great as well! We had a member with gluten and dairy allergies, and the restaurant was very accommodating to ensure that she had plenty of options and was aware of what she could order off the menu. Also cocktails were great, "By the Fire" was by far the favorite of the table.
