1500 OCEAN at the Hotel Del Coronado Ratings and Reviews
Absolutely wonderful. Great staff, excellent food and a beautiful location.
We were treated to a table on the veranda, overlooking the interior grounds of the Del, with a stunning ocean view. The sunset was beautiful and the staff turned on the heater in the awning at just the right time.
The meal was wonderful; the squid ink pasta, lobster salad, green apple sorbet, roasted lamb, and cream brulee were all prepared to perfection.
I will most definitely be back! Thank you for a great meal and experience.
Our dining experience was awesome. Our waiter explained everything on the menu clearly and made some recommendations which were very helpful. Every item we ordered was delicious. We sat inside the restaurant but at the front where we had a great view of the ocean as we ate. Definitely fine dining, but worth the expense!
This restaurant is attached to the historic Hotel del Coronado. The food here is incredible; it is expensive, but the quality is beyond comparison. They have an excellent option to have 4 items for $75, which is a great deal for a restaurant of this type. We had the veal short rib appetizer, which melted in our mouths. The black spaghetti very delicious (dungeness crab and jalapenos are an unusually delicious combination!) and the Alaskan halibut was cooked to perfection with a light sauce. For dessert, we had a delicious brown butter cake on top of a layer of Italian semi-freddo (pistachio I think) and raspberry port sauce. We had our own quiet private booth and a nice view straight out to the ocean. We had a wonderful time!
Headed to 1500 Ocean for my husband's birthday celebration. We had the tasting menu and wine paring. ALthought it was expensive, it was worth every penny. The food was delicious, as well as the wine paring. We had fun, and had great seats by the window. We ate there a little late and just missed the sunset. If we go again, next time we are in San Diego, we will be sure to get a sunset dinner time.
I came here with a friend visiting from out of town- this was her top choice based on reviews she had read about some of the higher end restaurants in San Diego. We were seated outside and able to watch the sunset from our table. The food was beautifully presented, our server Sebastian was one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and everything was seasoned and prepared very well. We had a great time, and now have a great memory with 1500 Ocean to look back upon. Thank you for a great experience.
Food was great and enjoyed the wine pairing. The outside ambience at the sunset grill was lacking as there was no music playing. It was a was noticeably quiet except for the working sounds of a restaurant. Service was excellent. Love the firepit before dinner.
The service was top-notch. Since we dined after dark, we missed the view, but it is supposed to be equally top-notch. My only complaint was the spill-over noise from a group in what I assume was a (nominally) private dining area, whose use of a PA system made me feel as if we were dining in a Holiday Inn restaurant with a bachelor party in high gear in the next room.
I absolutely loved my experience at 1500 Ocean! My boyfriend of 5 years and I chose this restaurant to end our day in Coronado celebrating our anniversary. The view of the ocean was beautiful, the service was amazing, and the food was incredible! My boyfriend and I don't really get to treat ourselves to fine dining often, so we weren't sure what to expect, but this was more than we could ask for. I ordered the lamb and my boyfriend got the New York steak. Both were incredibly delicious dinners. We ordered the sorbet for dessert and were also given an extra scoop of sorbet, cookies, and macaroons for celebrating our anniversary with them! We were more than thrilled when we left and would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone.
Overall the experience was a good one. However, given the prices of $75 per person for the four course tasting menu it should have been extraordinary. Service was good, but the food was over priced considering the other choices n the area. You go to be able to say you've been there.
We were seated next to a large party that was extremely loud. They were so loud we felt as if we were yelling to one another in order to hear ourselves over the din of this one group.
For some reason we had two waiters who were trying to wait on us throughout the night even though they both knew about the other. This amounted to our being interrupted an inordinate amount of times to be asked the same questions over and over again. Very annoying and this also helped to ruin our festive mood.
The portions were too small. The wine list was ridiculously expensive. All in all, not a good value for your money.
My wife and I went to 1500 Ocean for our anniversary. It was a wonderful evening. The food was outstanding from the appetizers to the dessert. Excellent wine selection. The wait staff couldn't have been nicer and more knowledgeable about how each course and item was prepared. It was an overall great experience.
We celebrated our 40th anniversary at 1500 Ocean at the Hotel Del Coronado. The weather was cool and blustery, but the service and food were warm and inviting. We loved it! Jesse, our server, did a great job of explaining the menu and offering suggestions. The food was innovative and delicious.
