1492 New World Latin Cuisine - Midtown
The food was good, but the service was horrible. We were forgotten about a bunch of time, beer was brought warm as if it was sitting on the counter for a while and they poured it in a cold glass to give the illusion it was cold, our server came back 4 times to ask me what I ordered because she couldn’t remember and when my food came out it was still wrong. The restaurant is soooo loud, we had to keep repeating ourselves across the table so the others could hear us. Kind of disappointed.
Very nice moderately priced restaurant with good food. East to converse. Great service.
The food tasted great and the portions were satisfying. Ambience was great for conversations.
Fresh, well-seasoned food with a latin flair! Servers were attentive, the atmosphere is retro/quaint. Highly recommend.
Great food and a pretty reasonable tab for a party of 6. We were at a round 6-top and could easily hear one another.
Our meal was great! I ordered the brisket taco & loved it! My friends split the seafood enchilada & could not stop talking about how yummy it was. The service was great, & it was really well priced! Not my first time there & definitely won’t be my last!
Overall yes. The food and drinks were good. The service was slow and they were not good with checking in on you for drink refills, chip refills, etc. The atmosphere is loud so it is hard to have a conversation with someone.
Food is excellent!
Food was just okay. Not great, but i expect fajitas to come out sizzling. The chicken fajiltas tasted like they were run through the oven. Everything was pretty expensive, too. $40 for a not so great meal. Probably will not go back.
Absolutely awful experience here recently. Group of six, no food for over an hour. Pathetic excuse of a server. Completely over coming here.
Great food! But service was very slow and inattentive.
Back to back same experience so what I thought was a fluke the first time I’ve now decided is the norm. Margaritas were the only 4 star item we ordered. Appetizer we got the 1492 quest and guacamole. The quest was not even warm, quite cold like it had been sitting out for quite a while. The guacamole was just ok, not awful but not worth eating either.
3 of us ordered fajitas and all were awful. Shrimp was dry and cold and the chicken and beef meat was again cold.
Our waitress also kept mixing up tables with drinks and food and we were not impressed. We all left and said that was the last time we everyone to 1492. Used to be a favorite but not anymore.
My office group went there to celebrate March birthdays. We were a large group. We were seated promptly and the waiter came over promptly. Paul was an excellent waiter and had a great personality! The food was great, too! We will definitely go back.
The food is excellent, unfortunately the service was poor. Drinks were forgotten, poured sloppy and incorrectly. Our meal took well over 2 hrs to get. We have been here numerous times, having the same server. I feel service is inconsistent.
Waiter quit serving us after we paid the bill.
1st time going and had an absolutely amazing experience. The food, beverages and customer service was spot on. Looking forward to another visit!
Maybe I ordered poorly. My companions enjoyed their food although the black beans were cold. I had the duck tacos and they were flavorless. The queso fundido appetizer was delicious, and the mid-town people watching through the front windows was enjoyable. We’ll try it again.
Food was amazing! I loved the 1492 Club special. We sat by a window which would be great in the summer but a little cold.
It was a cold evening and we had to keep our jackets on because there was not enough heat on/ front door opening so it wasn't quite as cozy as it normally is. The heat seemed to be turned up as we were leaving. Staff is very efficient and nice.
Food is always consistent and yummy. We got there early and then the crowd roar was a bit overwhelming when trying to catch up with girlfriends.
our table was ready on time, the atmosphere in the bar area was awesome for my friends and me. We enjoyed margaritas before dinner. One of our dinner orders was messed up in the kitchen and the manager comped it. The food was amazing. We enjoyed our dining experience and will probably return.
Well it was our first time there, a friend recommended.. it was very loud I couldn’t hardly hear my husband and the waitress had to question everything we ordered like she didn’t remember.. she got my drink wrong 3 times. I had the pork carnitas and they came out on steamed taco shells and the minute I picked them up to eat they all fell apart so I had to eat with a fork. I think the white Queso and chips was the best thing we ate.
Such good food!!! I had seafood enchiladas, my husband had a pulled pork dish, and my friend had an open face tamale. All three entrees were superb! We also shared a side of their coconut rice, which was perfection, and the house queso dish was also delicious! I would go back to this place just for the chips and salsa. It was honestly the best Mexican/Latin food we have eaten in a long time - fresh, delicious, and not your boring every day restaurant Mexican food. The only thing I would have changed was the noise level. It was so loud in the restaurant that it was difficult to have conversations with your table. Maybe that just means I am getting old . . .
Food was ok, not great. Waiter was very attentive. Restaurant is always super loud and if you have a party of two, your table is always by a door or the kitchen.
It was great food, wonderful server Ela. Had her help with our choices. Perfect! Seafood enchiladas and pulled pork.
I took my girlfriend for Valentine's day and we were pretty disappointed. The service was pretty bad. I had to wave down the waiter everytime we needed anything because he didn't really check on us. We had a couple drinks and they were all really weak and not very good. The food was alright, my girlfriend's duck enchiladas were good but my seafood enchiladas where pretty bland and not very good. I don't think we will be back.
Food was great except the carne aseda was under cooked. Service was excellent.
Love the food. It's just very loud and difficult to have a conversation at your own table.
Our first visit prior to a show downtown. The waiter provided a knowledgeable rundown of menu choices. Not only did we have interesting choices, but the food was extra tasty. Thank you.
Great place to eat!!! We will be back!!! Thanks!!!
The food, as always, was fantastic. The service usually is top-notch. Unfortunately, this time around I can't say the same. Very inattentive waitress.
Lunch service at 1492 is great! I go often for business lunches. Dinner service is poor. Last night, it took a long time to get water, setups and our order taken. Our beers never came even though we asked our waiter a couple of times. I finally went to the bar and ordered them myself after our food was delivered. My husband’s order was wrong. Being seated next to the swinging doors of the kitchen was very distracting, as it appeared that perhaps the staff was having difficulty and talking loudly to each other. No apologies and we were charged for the beers.
I love this restaurant, great food and drinks!
Always consistently good on all fronts. Wish they still made the Perfect Margarita in the shakers and poured straight into a martini glass .
The menu has changed since my last visit and not for the better. I took a suggestion from the waitress and had the pork shoulder. Bad choice! The other meal at the table was enchiladas and they were very greasy.
Love 1492. Always great experience. Took some 1st timers w/ us and they enjoyed it as well.
I have been to 1492 many times and sadly this was the first bad experience I’ve ever had. All of our food was cold, the rice was over cooked and mushy. We had the queso was cold too. I asked our waiter to heat it up and he did but not much. I’m hoping this message gets to management and they will solve these issues because I really like 1492.
The food was fabulous. We went for lunch with friends and we all enjoyed the food. Best salsa anywhere.
This has been our special occasion restaurant for birthdays several times over the last few years. Tonight I was highly disappointed. We made a reservation for 7:00 and were not seated until 7:30. We were then seated at a table only partially set with plates and silverware. Our first two bowls of tortilla chips were half filled with crumbs. It took an extra long time to receive our food, which took a while for the server to bring out with three separate trips. My tacos were not even hot and the corn tortillas were hard like they had been sitting out. Chicken fajitas came out just as strips on a regular plate (not on a skillet)-maybe this is how they serve them now???
Four of us had dinner reservations. Three orders came out okay and one (chicken enchiladas) were cold in the interior and had to be sent back. Gave the appearance they were frozen and reheated. Problem was corrected in reasonable time. I did not pay the bill so I have no idea if there was any compensation for the cold food. No real apology that I could discern from staff.
