13 Gypsies is a cozy, intimate Spanish tapas restaurant. You can also find the influence of other cuisines throughout the menu. Primarily utilizing Spanish techniques to prepare both creative and classic renditions of Spanish dishes, Chef Howard and Chef Kevan operate a true craft kitchen. The two of them prepare and cook most everything from scratch including breads, cured meats, cheeses, sausages, spice blends, pickled vegetables, and desserts. This practice of making nearly everything in house promotes waste-free cooking and higher quality food. Our wines are mainly from Spain, and our beer is Florida local. We are located in a two-story Spanish-style building built in 1923 by Henrietta Dozier, Jacksonville's only female architect in the early part of the 20th century. You will find eclectic, maximalist religious iconography adorning the walls and original floor tile. We have few tables, so reservations are highly recommended. Last seating is an hour and a half before closing time.

Fun, inventive dishes. A great place that blends vegetarian and meat-based options. My favorite thing, though, is that 13 Gypsies is tiny and it really does make you feel that you're in a cool restaurant on NYC's Lower East Side or even in Europe. A great way to travel while still staying in Jacksonville.

Always a fabulous dining experience. Food items change and we get to try new dishes each time in addition to the tried and true staples. Food is freshly made and good portions so you can try many different small dishes.

Everything I expected and more. I love 13 Gypsies, the Decor, the service, and the food - all so interesting and top-notch. I dined solo on a Saturday evening and tried so many delicious dishes that were expertly prepared and had amazing service and recommendations to top it off. I will continue to return and although it's nice to share tapas with a companion it's almost better to dine alone and take home leftovers. And the Sangria is delicious!

Have not been here for 4 years, boy what a mistake not to return! Food good and very diversified options all across the menu. Honeyed ricotta was a great starter for us. Portions are not large, we easily consumed 10 plated between 4. Tres Leches cake was awesome. Good service, good wine. Great night

I ordered about half of the menu on this visit, and I was blown away by almost every dish. The gnudi, octopus, and chorizo were some of the best dishes I have ever had. I would love to return to this spot and try even more options on my next trip!

My husband and I had another excellent meal at 13 Gypsies. Reservations are a must since this is a very small restaurant. Our table was ready when we arrived and our server made sure that service was efficient so that we could get to the symphony performance on time. The new wine glasses leave a lot to be desired - very small, almost like scotch or bourbon glasses so there is no way to enjoy the bouquet or aerate the wine by swirling. I was suspicious about the size of the pour so I tested at home and found that in fact these glasses hold about 6 ounces if filled almost to the top. But again, they are not ideal for enjoying wine. All the food we ordered was delicious with one caveat. The risotto was cooked with ham that night and it was very salty so I did not enjoy it. But all in all, a nice meal and we will return.

Good, simple, consistent tapas. The new gnudi recipe was so so versus the previous trips. Rest was all pretty good especially the mushrooms Sevilla. Wish on a couple of the dishes that are served with toast points that they added a couple of extra peices. On busy nights they could really use a second waiter. Never have an issue with reserved seats being ready on time.

I wanted to love it so much, but underwhelming :/ service staff was excellent very polite and attentive. Portions were extremely small for the price, and just not anything to go wild over. :/ beef was good but super tiny. The gnocchi was like large blocks of cheese that was just charred enough to have the burn taste that lingers and not in a good way. It was just meh and like eating a block of cheese :/ cheese cake had previously frozen blueberries which really took away from the whole thing :/ cake itself was good.

We have had many wonderful dining experiences over the years at 13 Gypsies but found the portions this last time to be considerably less but the price was the same or more. Each tapa was barely a forkful for 4 people….very disappointing!!

The only bad part about this restaurant is the fact that you simply won’t be able to eat everything on the menu. Everything was so good that I purposefully ordered food with ingredients I normally don’t like (in this case it was Olives, Bleu Cheese, and cauliflower) and everything was STILL amazing! Best restaurant in Northeast Florida, and it’s not even close!

First timers, our party of 4 enjoyed sharing 8 dishes, plus bread and dessert. The waiter said 4 people would typically get around 10 dishes, served in 2 flights. When we ordered, we told him the 7, and figured we would order a few more things once we picked favorites, but we were satisfied after the 2 flights, and dessert sounded good. Next time we will probably order 9 or 10 dishes and perhaps split the dessert. 3 of the 4 of us are more meat eaters than veggies, so our selections went accordingly. We enjoyed - Vietnamese meatballs - kind of spicy, but good flavor - Spanish pork mojo skewers - excellent spices - Crispy potatoes - nicely fried potato nuggets with a mustard sauce - served HOT - daily special smoky chicken thighs - really good - Mongolian beef skewers - excellent, very flavorful - Zanahorias (spiced carrots) - wow, I wish I had the recipe for this - Brown butter haddock - we all agreed our least favorite. We ate it, but would not order again - Mushrooms Sevilla - I'm not a mushroom eater, but the other 3 LOVED this - Peasant bread - fresh, toasted bread with a good Spanish olive oil with salt/pepper - Tres Leches - really...REALLY good tres leches with a wonderful whipped cream icing. We all wanted to try the risotto, but the flavor of the day was black olive, which none of us like. Next time I really want to try the gnocchi, and hopefully a better flavor of risotto (plus others...) Total bill for 8 dishes plus bread plus 3 desserts plus 2 soft drinks after tax and before tip was $108 for 2 couples. Seems like it should have been more, but I didn't look at the detailed receipt. Some would need more to eat than we had, but it was a really good meal at a good price. Service was good, and the food came pretty quick. We went on prime time Saturday, and I had to reserve about 3 weeks in advance to get that table. I'm sure you could get one quicker on other days/hours. Great place!

This is the perfect place to share your food. The portions are just right for trying a few bites of many dishes. The quality of food is reflective of the price so it’s not a place we come often, but definitely our first choice for a special occasion. Andrew was very friendly and gave us just the right amount of space.

Excellent eating experience; very efficient, knowledgeable service; small but tasty wine list at very affordable price points. Sampled four tapas suggested by our white and they were all knockouts. The big score, though, was the tres leches dessert. I'll be going back.
