1269 Restaurant and Bar
Starters needs an update. Main courses are way better then the starters. Also suggest to update the menu and take off skin on chips if you don’t have it. Staff is superb and they accommodate all your needs. Will definitely come back...AJ
Bottomless Roast is always delicious and very good value - will definitely be back!
Still awaiting my points for booking and eating at the restaurant...
We arrived Friday night, to meet friends in the bar, and found entertainment - which was surprisingly very good. Noise levels in the bar were not to loud so you were able to talk and listen to the music. Not sure why the musicians were in the corner, slightly obscured by posts and furniture.
On Sunday we had lunch in the Restaurant. For a hotel chain, the food was well executed, tasty and good portion sizes. I had the Sunday roast dinner; beef. Very tasty and tender. The only feedback would be the Yorkshire pudding was overcooked and dry, and the pumpkin was too sweet for my taste.
We also had breakfast. Usual Hotel selection, but better quality ingredients that the average Hotel (keep this up 1269!).
Arrived for them to have no record of the booking, but seated anyway on a table which was missing glassware. We were missing menus and pushed to order food and drink. Our mains arrived on the table whilst we were waiting for our starters to be cleared, this left us with no cutlery but our now luke warm mains on the table. No offer for extra drinks. No check back on the food. Only prompt service of the evening was when it came to paying the bill. Shame because the food, although slightly cold, was lovely!
great food and service!
We went there for mother's days and the service was impeccable along with very tasty food which was great value for money.
We went for the Roald Dahl themed afternoon tea, we were really disappointed. It was like little to no effort had been made. Our table was set up for tea, but there was nothing special, no table cloth, no Roald Dahl themed decor, just a Roald Dahl afternoon tea menu. And then the actual food itself- nothing to write home about. I’ve had much better afternoon teas, costing less. In terms of service I could hear the waitress being told to ask us what drinks we wanted and after being prompter she did come over a few times to see if there was anything else we wanted.
The menu is fairly standard but the quality of food is very good. I had the fish and I also had the Caesar salad whilst I was saying at the hotel and both were very good quality. The service is good. At the time I was staying at the hotel the atmosphere was very quiet so the service was not stretched but overall the servers were helpful informative and extremely prompt with their service.
We went there for my husband's birthday dinner. The staff were wonderful when I asked for a birthday dessert at the last minute. They arranged a dessert plate that said Happy Birthday and helped us keep it a secret until after dinner. The food was excellent with generous helpings. It is a hotel restaurant, so a bit quiet except for hotel guests. We live nearby and find this restaurant offers better value for money than the ones we find on our high street.
Not but scones were not fresh...
None of the above. They did not have a record of our booking. That did not matter as we were the first in the restaurant. the roast beef selection was as follows:
Beef overcooked and dark brown, even as the first in the restaurant at 12.30pm. We like medium rare beef, not an unreasonable request in a four star hotel restaurant. Not surprised the restaurant remained about 1/8 full, if that, on departure.
The menu stated roast potatoes cooked in goose fat. What was on the plate were new potatoes in their skin, that had been baked without fat. There was only a small amount of gravy and as for the yorkshire pudding, it looked like a squeezed rolled up dry object that had not been allowed to rise or change shape and was just warmed. The vegetables were okay! A dreadful meal served by pleasant staff. A waste of money and the pleasure of a Sunday meal out!
We went to 1269 for a family dinner on a Sunday night. It was a limited Sunday dinner menu from which we could choose 2 or 3 courses. The choices were broad enough to satisfy all of us, and we were happy with every dish, from the appetizers to the desserts. We were especially impressed with how perfectly cooked the steaks and fries were - better than in more expensive restaurants we have been to! Next time we are going to try the Sunday lunch. This place is a real find!
We stayed at the crown plaza hotel and thought we would just have a bite to eat in the restaurant attached not expecting too much and we were pleasantly surprised the food was delicious and the restaurant decor was lovely and we would definitely re visit for a meal even if we are not staying at the hotel
1269’s magical afternoon tea celebrating British Novelist, Roald Dahl ,sounds nice, so i thought i would book it as a thank you to the Grandparents for doing childcare over the holidays.
We arrived to find they had no record of our booking.
The area they put us in had no atmosphere or ambience, did not lay the table properly, had to ask what connection there was to Roald Dahl , so got given a dogeared menu with his name on.
It was all very ad hock and clear they were not prepared, so decided to leave.
Went to the Bull hotel instead and got the sort of afternoon tea you would expect,a table already laid out with a table cloth, china cups,a menu with tea choices and in an area that had some atmosphere.
So to be fair i could not comment on how good the food was, never got that far.
Great food and service. The team are so friendly and the cocktails were great!
One of the poorest Sirloin Steaks I have been served in a long time, Very dry and quite tough.
First choice wine was not available so had to pick a substitute.
Saving grace was the lovely staff and their response they gave to our pre-notification that it was our Wedding Anniversary.
Not sure what smart casual means anymore but shorts and tee shirts seemed to be the accepted dress code in the evening
Lacking in ambience ,,shame as the food was very good.
We enjoyed great ambiance, and tried several starters, which proved to be a great idea. Starters were very tasteful and delicious. Great ribeye steak, and very good hamburger.
I had the Friday night steak for two deal with a bottle of wine. We got a choice of tables to choose from and my disability was taken into account for ease of access to and from the table. The order was taken promptly by a very pleasant waiter, and the steaks were amazing. The deal itself was very good value taking into account quality of the food and the ambience. I will have no hesitation to dine at 1269 again.
Very empty for a Saturday night.
Top prices but not top quality.
Ok, but wouldn’t go back again.
Some staff great others need English training. The food was very average so overpriced for what we got n
Excellent Sunday lunch and good portions. House red was also good value. Service and surroundings were also good. Highly recommend.
Extremely attentive and friendly staff with good food, not hurried.
Booked this restaurant for our anniversary so was disappointed that it was quite large and impersonal. We had asked for a quiet table but were seated next to two very loud women and there were no extras for being an anniversary (so why ask when booking if it was a special occasion). Overall the food was quite good, my husband's steak was very good and although for me there was a vegetarian menu, it was nothing special. The service was slow considering there were not many people there at the beginning and we had to ask for the vegetarian menu and cocktail menu and were not asked if everything was ok during the meal - rather left to our own devices. Overall, an "ok" restaurant but not for a special occasion.
We had the most fanastic meal !
The steak autopsy 4 steaks
all cooked how we like
(as rare as you dare)
Very hospitalbe staff.
& once the meal had finished
They bought me a birthday cake
(well it was my birthday)
I was very touched
We had our booking moved back by 30 mins because of another large booking on the same evening. The service was not great, it was slow, we had to ask constantly for additional drinks, and chase them up. We were seated at 8pm, but did not get our starters till at least 9pm, which is a lot later than we expected. The food was fantastic, but we felt let down by the service that was provided.
We were staying at the hotel for my wife’s birthday so naturally booked ourselves a table here and was not disappointed we had the meat tasting plate which was well worth the 80£ it’s cost for the two of us sharing.
The steaks were cooked to perfection and the side that accompanied were delicious would thoroughly recommend this restaurant if your ever in the area
Amazing Sunday lunch at a very good price - fresh vegetables and homemade Yorkshire puddings - generous portions
We took our parents for afternoon tea and the table was set up when we arrived. Truth be told we could have done with a bigger table as everything was a bit squashed, but we managed. The food was delicious and plentiful but we weren't offered any refills once it had gone. We also had to ask at the bar for the tea as they didn't ask us what we wanted before, or during the delivery of the food. That said, it was a nice afternoon overall and our parents enjoyed it. The hotel itself is lovely and in great grounds, so it's a bit of a gem. I had been to the hotel before and will probably go again sometime in the future.
Apart from them not receiving my booking through this booking service the staff couldn't have been better. It was a great Roald Dahl themed afternoon and good value for money with a glass of champagne too.
