We are definitely foodies dining at approximately 75 out of 100 top rated restaurants in the gta keeping in mind we are also health conscious and mostly plant based. Even for a plant based and or meat eating individual this restaurant fits the bill. Spencer and his staff are all amazing and catered to our kids as we’ll while making some outstanding drinks that were not all on the bar list. Worth every dime or dollar 😋

R&D was a great place to eat dinner! We got the bibimbap and seafood chow mein and couldn't have been more impressed. They have delicious food with absolutely amazing drinks. The only downside is the amount of noise in relation to where we saw. We sat in the front lounge area as opposed to the dining room in the back which could have been why it was so loud. Other than that - great place and would recommend.

Sumerlicious menu was good, but didn’t live up to the hype. We ordered an extra item off the regular menu and it was the worst part of the meal. Would go back to see if it is better when it’s not summerlicious but overall underwhelming.

We had a reservation at 5:30 and we were seated right away. The decor is amazing, a mix of metals and rustic, super cool for photos! The staff were super attentive and always made sure we had our drinks, water, food etc. I loved that they waited for us to finish one course before they brought the others because the tables are a little small so it is hard to fit a lot of stuff on them. Overall the decor is so cool, food was amazing and the staff were some of the best!! Will return soon!

Worst experience ever. We had reservation then a tall guy just sat us at front while whole dining room was empty. He told us that’s for reservations. Sounds like we didn’t have reservation eh? We asked if we could seat there, he confirmed, after we just sat he said it’s for big party... but the big party never came while I was dining, he sat other 2 people there. LOL sure. I asked about daily special 5-7pm, he was being so rude just showed me the corktails on summerlicous menu, and said they don’t have the special. Food was really bad, we ordered salad literally looks like some ingredients should add to chow-mien. Lol jokes. Not recommend.

Service, presentation, ambiance were all excellent. The cocktail my husband ordered, Rich Girl, was the smoothest whiskey drink we’ve ever had. The menu promised a lot, but the food didn’t deliver. It was pretty bland. Maybe it was just what we ordered? The experience was so good that we’re planning on trying again.

Great meal! Sat facing the kitchen which was absolutely great to watch Chef Eric and his sous chefs work. Food was outstanding, very large portions and excellent cocktails.

We chose this restaurant for two reasons, we love Chinese food and we are so excited for Eric from Master Chef to be partnered with Alfred in this awesome opportunity. The food did not disappoint. It was flavourful, innovative and elevated from traditional Chinese cooking. Yum!! Our waiter was a contrast to Eric's humility which is what drew us to this fantastic chef. Our waiter was impatient, rude and in a snit for the entire time. It was though he had personally taken on the attitude of achieving the success of the restaurant. It brought a lot of tension to our table. We were taking out guests to thanks them for a kindness they had extended to us and had to apologize for the evening instead.

R&D is consistently the best meal I'll eat in any given month. The menu is constantly evolving, the music is fantastic, and the TV above the bar playing old kung-fu movies is just the icing on the cake.

Can't praise this place enough

WOW. Sophisticated, cool, delicious. Reminds me of what you could find in NYC or Paris were when those cities were more interested in being cities and less in being tourist machines.
I was in Toronto for only 5 days- I had to go to R the fried rice was like none we had before. The brown rice ice cream was spectacular- I would not have ordered it and was ever grateful when our waiter (who was wonderful) brought for us to taste. The lobster, the kalbi tostadas, the dou fu fah... I could go on about every item we ate and how I regret the things we did not get to eat. Let me paint you a picture of our date night: my husband and I are dressed to the ninth, we are drinking a glass of some languedoc of sorts, in a beautifully decorated room while grandfather's dumplings are dancing in our mouths, some old kung fu movie is on a screen and Lamar's King Kunta is playing on the air. Seriously, chef Eric, you are EVERYTHING and your staff is amazing. It seems ti me that you, like your city, Toronto, are simply not receiving the many accolades you deserve. Thank you for feeding us extraordinarily...

The starting app buns were good and we enjoyed it very much. The cocktail hour drinks were okay, but wasn't interesting for its value. The main course (bibimbap) was a miss and it was soaked with overly spicy sauce. We were told that the rice would be crispy at the bottom, but the rice remained wet and slimy.

Our sever was excellent and attentive. He recommended a bowl of steam rice to counter the spice for our food, but we had enough and lost our appetite for our food.

Overall, we went in to R&D with high expectations thinking the winner of master chef Canada was going to be there to supervise and maintain quality and control of the food. I think there is room for improvement, better quality control, and consistency is important.

Very average food, server didn’t have much knowledge of the food, provided zero help when recommending number of dishes and size description. Food was either too salty or not enough flavour.

The value for the food is AMAZING. For 5 people out for a social, sharing meal - we spent $63/person with two alcoholic beverages per person and SEVERAL courses, nobody left hungry. A self-proclaimed foodie, this food was fantastic, cannot wait to go back!

The food was really good but the service was ok. Firs time I came it took 20 mins between each course , we reserved the Valentine’s Day special just to be told they didn’t have anymore but then they brought it anyways which was confusing . The second time the server kept forgetting about us and we had to flag down a server all the time .

We had an amazing dinner and couldn’t have had a better experience. The waiter explained nearly all the cocktails to us and we ended up picking two we were super happy with. He helped guide us through the menu and answered our many questions. Each dish was excellent. We were so pleased that we just continued to order more items. Highly recommend to anyone!

Went for our daughter’s 15th birthday and she loves MasterChef. She was delighted to see Eric Chong preparing the meals. Lovely dinner, very tasty. A few more vegetarian options would be great. Would definitely go again!!

The Spring Rolls aren't worth it, I suggest getting the chow mein and duck. Service was fairly slow and they seemed to have too much of a lax attitude when it came to service. We were 5 people and were only served with one water bottle. We liked the ambience but restaurants who do the couch seating need to remember that the table height should be proportionate to how high or low the person will be in relation to the table. Overall, would recommend for drinks with friends and sharing plates.

Great food. Looking forward to returning to enjoy the delicious duck that I saw flying out of the kitchen.
Suggestion to whoever set up the seating availability, Counter seating should be the “Bar” Or “Chefs Bar” (where we ended up being seated)
I had selected Bar when reserving as I was under the impression that it would be a table in the Bar area.
Ended up smelling like food the rest of the evening.
Also, we waited a little longer to be served than normal.. seemed as though our waiter was unaware we had arrived, luckily a fellow waiter asked us if we had been served and suggested some great choices. Overall good experience.

Always an amazing time there. Eric has this place pumping out great food and I love the fact that they update the menu ever so often. I miss the smoked ole fashioned cocktail though.

R Pork Hock Sliders; Fried Rice; and the Sweet 'n Spicy Tofu - the names may sound plain but I assure you the dishes aren't anything like you've had before. That goes for the cocktail menu, too! I can never choose just one and stick with it, because the bartender is so creative - they are ALL delish! My favourite (can never remember the whole name but it's Buddha's Secret or something like that) is SO good. I promise this is a sincere and genuine review - my family and I truly LOVE R&D and I can't say enough great things about it! - T Wright,

I think the menu is too limited. I enjoyed a few of the bites we had but found very few items on the menu that really appealed to me. I heard in the past that the short ribs were good but they were no longer on the menu. Same with the Tuna ... it was no longer on the menu as well.

Perhaps it would have been better if we had a larger group and could have shared the duck but there was just two of us and a whole duck would have gone to waste. Perhaps you could serve 1/2 duck for smaller groups?
