About Quiessence at The Farm at South Mountain
Zagat says, "Set in a historic home with a warm country feel", this "romantic" South Phoenix "gem" matches its "magical location" with an American menu based on "local, sustainable, handcrafted" ingredients and a "deep" wine list; "impeccable service" and a "calming" ambiance.

Quiessence at The Farm at South Mountain Ratings and Reviews
We went on a Friday to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We had the most amazing experience. The food was incredible in appearance and delicious as well. We took pictures of each tasting to capture the moment. Go early as it took us 3 hours for our 6 course tasting. We went at 5 pm and it was perfect. It allowed you a few minutes to check out the Farm before your first course.
The description of the ingredients and presentation of the food belied what we experienced in lack of flavor, except for the fruits of the sea appetizer. The brown bread was flavorless, the soup ingredients were bland, the scallops were underdone, the churros were chewy. We were seated at 8:30 and received our fourth course at 11:00. The long delays between courses were the reason we didn't send anything back.
The wait staff were attentive. We were told there was a problem of pacing in the kitchen. The manager took the charge for one of our glasses of wine off the bill.
This was the most expensive and most disappointing dinner I've ever had.
We spent the past 3 New Year's Eves at Razz's in Scottsdale and it was wonderful from start to finish. If they hadn't closed, we would have repeated our experience.
It is unfortunate that the food at Quiessence is so good because it is undercut by the horrible dinner service. Came for the 5 course tasting on NYE, each course took about an hour to be served, with no apologies from management or the servers. The front of the house staff carried on as though nothing was wrong. All the diners were visibly upset and the entire night was mismanaged. My boyfriend finally asked our server what was going on with the food and that was the first time the problem was acknowledged. We talked to the manager who was in denial about the state of the evening, and made no apologies until we expressed our dissatisfaction. My boyfriend asked for half of our meal off, and his request was granted. Thank goodness he did, because although we received a discount the meal still cost upwards of $300. I sincerely hope the other diners had the sense of doing the same thing. In addition, this restaurant had the audacity to threaten a $50/person 48hr cancellation fee, for a dinner service that they could not handle.
Long story short, I could not recommend this place less. The food was good but not enough to make up for the clueless management and staff.
To start, my wife and I chose this restaurant based on an article which proclaimed it as the “Most Romantic Restaurant” in Phoenix. New Years seemed like a perfect occasion to test it out.
When we arrived we were greeted and a nice place to wait while our table was prepared, it did not occur to me then how many people were waiting for such a small number of available tables.
We were seated late, albeit only by about 10 minutes, but that set the standard for the night.
After being seated, our server attended the table and was very nice and knowledgeable about the restaurant and property - all downhill from there.
Being NYE the restaurant had made their menu a mandatory 5 course tasting menu with an elevated price of $125 per person. We order a bottle of wine with our meal.
The bottle of wine arrived 20 minutes after we ordered it, and the first course, a charcuterie board, arrived 40 minutes after the wine.
The second course, a salad and soup, another hour later.
We made it to the 3rd course, the first cooked item of the night, which arrived 3 hours after our seating despite 2 requests to speed things up.
Our wine was depleted and the food was not nearly the quality for the price point. Our server did not seem to care that we were underwhelmed, and no action was taken until we asked for our check at the completion of the 3rd course.
The manager, the only saving grace, was extremely apologetic after delivering our check. She also removed all the food from our bill and enticed us to return with a $50 gift card.
I can’t say for sure that we will use the gift card at all.
My wife and I have been here half a dozen times over the years and have very much enjoyed the restaurant in the past. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience for our New Year's dinner. We were seated late to reservation, and our 5 course meal took 4 hours to be served without any apologies or explanations. Simply inexcusable considering the price we paid for the very best and received the very worst. We won't be back.
I took my wife and some friends for New Years this year. I have been to this restaurant before and the entire experience was outstanding, I had a couple of issues with our event with the primary being forced to a set menu that had limited options. I was not made aware of the set menu when I booked this reservation but I could not adjust due to the timing of the notification (I learned of the set menu 48 hours prior to our dinner). The other issue that I had was a waiter that was either new or stretched beyond his limitations. For the price of the meal (with wine it ran around $1000.00 for the four) I would expect better service. I understand that this is a farm to table restaurant and that all courses were prepared with extreme care but my feeling leaving the restaurant was good food / great drink / average at best service but for the price I expected more.
We have dined at most of the top-rated restaurants in the Valley. Quiessence is in a different league than almost all of them. This is exquisite farm-to-Table. We had the five course tasting menu. All of the courses featured local ingredients, were truly creative and melted in the mouth. There was one misstep. Our steaks were over cooked. But as soon as we pointed this out, they immediately removed them and cooked us new ones, which were done to perfection. They also gave us a $50 credit and a gift card, and the front-of-house Director personally apologized. The setting is lovely, and they strongly encourage leisurely dining. Quiessence IS expensive. But you are paying for an experience that mist of the other Open Table restaurants with a 4-Plus rating can’t begin to match. For a special occasion, this is as good as it gets..
Everything was amazing. From the timing of the food that comes out between each dish to the knowledge the waitress (Patricia) had on each dish and the pairing of the wines! The food was delicious from the first bite to the last. I would highly recommend doing the 6 course with the wine pairing. Wowsers!!! That was awesome!
The location in Phoenix is a hidden gem. Quiet country setting with great ambience. We had the 6 course meal and each course was an amazing creation. The duck pate is phenominal, as well as the pistachio soup. The fresh goat cheese was to die for. The whole meal from start to finish was expertly described by the waitress. and the wine selection was quite good.
I would definitely recommend going and will return myself.
Food was outstanding, different from your regular place, don't forget to ask for dessert. Really looking forward to try a different season's menu, service is also top notch.
The place is perfect for celebrating a special ocassion, outside seating in the garden provides a good place to have a nice conversation.
Disappointed. Two hours in, we were only getting our third course of a 6 course meal. Then they told us at almost 10pm that the dessert we ordered at 7:30 was no longer available. After we told them we didn’t want the other options, the manager told us the dessert was available...
The food was spectacular, but the restaurant was too slow and we did not appreciate the dessert fiasco. They offered us a gift card after we had paid our full bill, but that did nothing for us since we are from out of town. The waiter was nice, but I am not sure what was going on with the rest of the meal dynamics.
An amazing meal that will linger on the taste buds for a long time to come. You can't get more romantic than this secluded little restaurant. Just be prepared to make a night out of it. Our five course meal took three hours. The couple next to us couldn't handle it and bailed after only getting through two courses in two hours.
Food was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff but oh the wait. Serious kitchen issues. 5 course tasting should not take 3+ hours. We watched same exact course coming out to other tables while we watched patiently. Need to seriously upgrade seats if you expect us to sit so long.
Amazing food with beautiful presentation. We did the six course tasting and it was tremendous quality of food. The waiter was kind and enthusiastic. The only issue was that the speed of the kitchen was glacial. It took 3.5 hours for our meal and frankly it was even slow to get us our pre-dinner drink (20+minutes). Beautiful place and if they can get the service to match the food, it would be truly fantastic.
This place is absolutely stunning. Such a romantic place. The staff are incredible and so friendly. We have been here 3 times for our anniversary and always have the best experience. We would highly recommend this place for a special date or night out with your love.
The food is just awesome. I would love for them to get Michelin rated. I have been here 3-4 times of the last 2 years and I have been impressed each time. Beautiful atmosphere and fantastic cocktails and food choices. If you like farm to table food prepared by a master chef this is the place for you.
We hadn't been back to Quiessence in far too long. We had a fabulous, slow meal, with great service, under the stars on the lawn, for a special occasion. Outstanding drinks and delicious food. Most of the yumminess is sourced locally, many vegetables and herbs from the property. This truely is a PHX gem and we highly recommend it.
