Afternoon Tea
Treasured memories are made at Seattle"s Queen Mary Tea Room, where exquisite teas, delicious meals, and mouthwatering desserts are savored. Once inside, guests are intimately surrounded by Victorian elegance. The ambiance is accented with English bone china, delicate lace, and rich wainscoting. There are generous helpings of authentic British cuisine, the solace of good friends, the warmth of beautiful full leaf teas from around the world, and shelter from that occasional Seattle rain shower. Queen Mary Tea is the destination for so many occasions; birthdays, baby showers, or just a place to take someone for something special.

There are going to be people who love the way the place is decorated and overlit, and I am not one of them. But the servers and fellow diners created a friendly ambiance, not formal at all. Tea was tasty, as was some of the food. Still, one of my sandwiches was dry on all the sides--WTF! Gingerbread with whipped cream was amazing, although snickerdoodles were a bit plain. The shortbread with sorbets was a bit too large and clunky--cookie should not be large than the sorbet, people. The little pecan bar and salmon mousse were standouts. At $42/head, I think the service could be a bit more polished. Did I really need to ask for my tea after finishing the first course?
Everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves, even the men, who patronized with an assuming note in the restroom saying how the men must have been dragged here. (Get with the times, people.) There were stories and pretending at each table, I am sure, but there was not pretension.

This is a very small tea room. My mother in law kept getting bumped by the staff with no apologies. Our waitress/server was very professional and nice, when she was around. We waited for at least 15 minutes to order our tea, she apologized which was nice however we didn’t see our waitress/server for so long and when she came back to check on us, it was to let us know we had 10 minutes remaining on our table! We would’ve paid and vacated the table much sooner if we could’ve asked her or someone else for our check.

Great tea room for kids; love the special tea menu they provide for them. The food is fantastic!! The only qualm we had was in the excessive clutter and lack of waiting area. It would be great if there were seats in front, and not quite so many trinkets for kids to grab onto in the entry. A bit cluttered and stuffy. But otherwise the food and service were top notch, and we would most certainly come again!!

We called ahead because my mother is gluten-free and vegan, and myself and my brother also in attendance are vegan, and we know that sometimes these restrictions cannot be accommodated. They said on the phone that they were very accommodating and had many options for these restrictions and not to worry, just let the server know. Upon arriving and getting seated and mentioning our restrictions, the server looked concerned and said that they only had a soup and salad option. We came to discover that they only do not accommodate you in any way. They do not serve an afternoon tea (arguably the primary reason for going to the queen mary) that is without dairy, eggs, or gluten. We accepted this, knowing that this happens, and decided on tea and lunch, only to discover they do not have ANY other milk but regular. So we were forced to spend an exorbitant amount of money on herbal tea and salad - which we can easily make at home and was nothing special. We also had very poor service, only seeing our waitress once and having to call over two other waitresses multiple times for items we needed. I don't know why they don't have more options. And if they insist on being so restrictive, they should be aware of this and when someone calls in ADVANCE to ask this question, they should be honest. Especially when they charge you $20/person if one of your guests doesn't show up or you cancel. Insane. Won't be going back.

I love the Queen Mary. My daughter was visiting from London so we went. She obviously hadn’t been in a while.
And we found out it’s the oldest tea room in America 😊

Wonderful Afternoon Tea. It’s always a fun experience in this quaint little restaurant. Food was excellent, server was very nice. The manager even stopped by to ask how we were enjoying the restaurant. Everyone was friendly. I appreciate that they are even very conscientious about asking if anyone has food allergies or special requirements.

Don’t forget to stop by their store a block away. It has so many wonderful treasures. Great place to buy a special gift or get tea. The service is the shop was exceptionally good.

This is our favorite place for a fun girls day out.

My sister and I take each other to the Queen Mary for our birthdays every year. It never disappoints. We have been to high tea at the Plaza, the Empress, and at many small establishments. This is our favorite. Love the intimate atmosphere. The tea is Devine.

Cute little place, food was good.....service felt a bit rushed and we never really had a dedicated server so not really personal attention. It's probably just a one time visit for us.

Very disappointing visit. The wait staff were completely overworked and had a difficult time keeping the orders straight, even when they took notes. Service was extremely slow, and when our food finally arrived, it was not correct (we had ordered vegetarian and received the meat plates with the afternoon tea). It had taken soooo long to get our food that it didn't seem worth it to ask it to be remade. The wait staff were super kind and comped us food, but overall it was just too busy and chaotic to be a relaxing afternoon tea.

Had a ladies tea with a few friends. Love the cozy, kind of zany, decor and ambiance. They clearly love tea here and their selection is amazing. The Afternoon Tea platter is stunning, simple and delicious, we left no pastry uneaten! It was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours - definitely recommend a reservation as it's tiny and always busy!

We had a girls high tea with five family members. We greatly enjoyed the British flare of decor, tea and food service. I absolutely plan to come here again, but next time without kids. Perhaps a child 7 and up but not younger and most definitely not a baby. Which was my mistake. The environment was slightly uncomfortable with the tables so close and the heat. Though I'm sure if it we're just adults and not me stuck between my two children, I'd have had a much more proper time. Loved Afternoon Tea and highly recommend.

This is definitely an enjoyable experience, and something that's a little different from the usual Seattle eatery offering. Prices make it more of a celebratory event destination. Beware at peak times, we had a reservation on Sunday afternoon and service was incredibly slow - our food (chicken salad and quiche, salad & fruit) was delicious but took an hour to arrive, and I had to remind our server three times for the milk to go with my tea. Also worth bearing in mind - their menu is limited for those preferring dairy free. I would go back, but more likely at quieter times. Their tea emporium down the street is great for tea buying and all kinds of treats.

This was a delightful afternoon tea, full of goodies. The sugar cookies, served with the sorbets, were the best we had ever eaten. The sandwiches were good. As always, it may not look like a lot of food on the three tiers, but it is very difficult to finish. The leftovers came home with us to enjoy later. There is an emporium across the street where we bought the sugar cookies and the tea that was served. All and all it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon tea.

We have been here many, many times. The service has always been impeccable. Unfortunately it wasn't that way on our last visit. In the past the service has made our experience so special. Server did not interact just took our order and left. We were given our check without being given the chance to look at the dessert menu. I had to ask her to see it. This tea house is so fun and whimsical. It's a bummer that the server took a little of that feeling away. However, because of past experiences we will be back.

Got stuck in traffic so we were a little late for our reservation, but since we called to let them know, they were prepared to get our tea and food out so we could still have time to enjoy it before the 2 hour limit. Very attentive, polite, and friendly staff, with wonderful food, made an amazing experience. The place is small, and there were more customers than what I'm used to, but it was still quite relaxing and enjoyable for me and my party.

A Gluten Free Paradise! - Took my newly diagnosed celiac friend to Queen Mary's and it was the first time she felt "normal." Transitioning away from gluten is hard, and the GF scones at Queen Mary's are out of this world. Always a delight, and you always see a happy little girl in crinoline bouncing away delighted by the experience.

On this day however, the staff was somewhat new, and our service wasn't on par with the usual treatment. We stood for 20 minutes in the tiny entryway while five tables sat empty and we waited for them to be reset. Arthritis, a bad back and knees, made this wait very painful. I even attempted to request a seat at a not set table to relieve my pain. My request was not understood. Once seated and sipping tea, the rest of the experience was a delight.
