Q is simply the most authentic sushi experience LA has to offer! It is expensive but a truly unique experience.
I try to eat at Q at least every 4-6 weeks. For me there is no better sushi in Los Angeles. The chef is beyond talented and the fish is so fresh and flavorful. It’s always an excellent experience with fish that takes you away to a whole other level! Love it!!
Chef Hiro never fails to impress. Quality, service, ambiance A+ Thank you for another amazing experience. Needlefish, beakfish and shima-aji to name some of the amazing pieces served and that Egg cake dessert! Thank you as always, until our next visit. Thank you Chef Hiro & Mrs. K.
As always Q never disappoints! We always leave very satisfied each time we go to Q. Chef is the best!
One of my best sushi experiences in LA. Q Sushi delivers a straight up Tokyo level sushi experience, my business partner and I loved every minute of it. We left the restaurant still hungry and headed to Grand Central Market for a taco, thus the 4 stars.
Not worth the money.
550 Dollars a 2 sans alcool pour 15 sushis , même si le poisson est rare c’est trop abusé.
550 $ for two persons and for 15 sushis , it is a pure exaggeration.
Q Sushi is a very romantic place to have dinner. The interior design is quintessentially Japanese, elegant and understated. The service is quick and attentive. However, the sushi itself is served in such an old school post-Meiji period style that most folks may find it underwhelming. What makes the sushi less than ideal? It comes down to the vinegared rice style, as it is VERY sour and pungently flavored, which easily overpowers the fish being offered. In addition, given it's traditional style, the cuts of fish are small, so each nigiri is a bit unsatisfying, and the pace of service is such that a meal takes 2 hours, but will leave you hungry. In fact, after spending almost $300/person for our dinner, we went around the corner for a slice of pizza at Joe's to cap the evening.
It's a great place to take a date for a romantic evening, but you won't leave full or particularly impressed by the food. Greater sushi can be had in many spots in town, for less coin, which is unfortunate.
Chef Hiro was outstanding in his execution and process with handling multiple groups that we all started at different time and ended the meal at the same time.
this is the best sushi in Los Angeles, in a wonderful setting.
Preface... I've visited Japan about 30 times, and been all of the best sushi restaurants in Los Angeles, including every one of the four sushi establishments that buys direct from Tsukiji. While the fish is pretty good here, the rice is really too vinegary, and selections of fish were rather uninspiring. Furthermore, the sake price points are quite egregious compared to competitor offerings. Finally, the ambiance is so sterile you feel like you're waiting for the dentist. Honestly, I'd save your dollars and try Shunji or Matsumoto... much better ambiance, food, and value.
Perfectly pure sushi! No risks or crazy, obvious innovations. Chef presents a simple and flawless menu with the help of two other staff who keep drinks full. The no-phone policy set a wonderfully quiet and distraction-free ambiance. Price will be an issue for some. I believe the cost is fully justified by the quality of ingredients, expert preparation, and level of service.
Super expensive for poor experience.
Delicious, easy, accommodating, very serious tho
Excellent dinning experience. Already recommended to friends.
Just myself and it was amazing!
Very good. Second best to Sushi GINZA in LA.
Q is consistently great! The tuna (akami, chu toro, o toro) and the sayori are exceptional. The assorted sashimi this time was excellent too. Lovely and attentive service.
Very good fish, nothing that stand out over other good sushi restaurants.
Thank you Chef Hiro, Mrs. K! The best, should definitely be on the must-try list for sushi in LA. Slice of Japan in downtown LA. Excellent service! Masterful indeed!
I was a bit confused when I first heard there is only one head chef who will serve 10 customers at the same time. This is because Omakase style sushi dining usually requires personal attention to each customer: what the person is drinking and eating, and how fast the person is eating. That being said, there were certain times when the delivery of each sushi piece was delayed, but overall I think Chef Hiro did a good job giving personal attention to each customer. In terms of food, everything was fresh and I could taste the details of each fish. However, as some of other reviewers mentioned, both the number and variety of sushi pieces seemed little limiting for the price being paid. A tip for future customers: get to the restaurant 10 minutes early and ask for the middle seats that are right in front of Chef Hiro (if you arrive late, you might be put in the corner seats where you can't observe the hand-skills performed by Chef Hiro).
One of the best experiences in LA, amazing service and food quality A+
Can never go wrong with Chef Hiro / Q. Thank you chef!
Spectacular sushi. A true 5 star experience. A little slice of Japan in downtown LA. Worth every penny. Perfection.
Wonderful Evening ever! I will go back to Q again. Really like the environment and quiet bar there.
It was so dang delicious! Went with the $200 option Chef's choice. At the end of the meal before dessert, The chef asks you if you want to eat anything again. It was the right fullness level, I was very satisfied!
First time for lunch and service was impeccable as always. Started off with sake while I waited for my dining partner to show up. Started to drool and dream as I watched the diners beside me getting their meals.
It’s best not to skimp with the smaller tasting menu. There are many items that you will regret not getting.
His iwashi was perfectly prepped and salt pickled. I havent had one that was seasoned so well and complimented his strong vinegared flavored rice.
Always a fan of kombu marinated shrimp and it was exceptionally well done...the flesh was firm and luxurious bouncy. Something that likens itself to perfectly raw lobster.
Thank you very much for a fantastic meal...it made me forget it was just lunch.
A+ quality and service! Each piece will make you look forward to the next bite (that Japanese Perch).. Great ambiance, thank you Chef Hiro & Mrs. K, always a pleasure to dine at Q. The best.
Exceptional night with Chef that discussed each course and was very helpful! Highly recommended!
My experience at Q was awesome. Everything was just perfect!! 👌
Food was excellent but after a 15-course omakase tasting menu, and 3 additional courses, I had to go across the street and eat two tacos to fill me up.
It was a bad start because the lady working there as a manager grabbed my front of the camera while i was takig a video of the interiors, then the explanation was we dont want customers being filmed, so i said is there customers inside? Because i was the only customer in the store. It was the first reservation of the day. I have zero clue why she just came out the door and grabbed my camera instead of talking to me, which was extremly rude and disrepectful.
Consistent quality/service, always great to see chef Hiro in his element. Thank you for the excellent meal, until our next visit.
For starters it's pricey, but the fish was the freshest I've ever tasted. Sadly, the experience started on a sour note. When we arrived there were six open seats at the bar, we were placed in the corner furthest away from the chef. We asked to move so as not to be close to the bathroom and they basically lied and said a party of four was coming to the other seats, only to watch two separate couples be seated many minutes apart. Since it was my wife's birthday and the bill was over $700 I would expect that they would have allowed us to move since we got there before the other couples. While it was good, in my opinion, it's not worth a 2nd visit - there is a lot of amazing sushi in LA for a fraction of the price, but if you're a die-hard fan put it on your bucket list.
I don't where to begin. I was celebrating my dates birthday by taking her to this magnificent gem of an experiential delicacy. I'd only experienced Q during a lunch following mediation with the Quinn, Emmanuel guys. This time I needed to have the full experience. I came prepared with an exquisite bottle of champagne, which they allow for a modest $25 corkage fee. We also had a nice, dry sake to start from their excellent selection. Upon entering, I was actually pleasantly surprised to see Chef Hiro, as on the previous occasion he was not present. My date was unsure of exactly what to expect. The ambience was beautifully curated, everything fit together perfectly, the music, the company, the drink, and last but never ever least, the food. All of the fish was amazing, the sardine was my personal favorite, while my date was enamored by the toro. Everything was exceptional, the fish was perfectly cured or covered in excellent, but subtle sauces. There were point during this experience in which I was transported, I felt like I was in Mid district Tokyo. It was only until after we left, and went outside into the Urban DTLA jungle that I finally came back to earth. I genuinely don't think this experience could have been any better. I forgot to mention that we were the only two people in the entire restaurant, therefore we had all of Chef Hiro attention. I cannot wait to come back.
The place was great very subdued, reminded me of sushi restaurant in Japan. The food, the quality of the fish was excellent. I would come back to this place for sure.
This place costs a pretty penny, but it’s an amazing experience as you watch a master at his craft. So, if you can appreciate that you are paying for more than just “sushi” this is a place to try. The omakase will take your breath away. It is truly magical. Sit at the bar and you will make friends easily with other diners as you marvel at the sushi being purposely placed on your plate. Even the ginger is astounding. Such a great place to celebrate a special occasion.
Chef Hiroyuke is the best! The variety of courses that he presents is magnificent. Q has became our go-to for fine dining Japanese cuisine.
