Sushi
Taking purity and simplicity as its manifesto, Q provides an unsurpassed omakase dining experience. Q features Chef Hiroyuki Naruke's expression of Edomae cuisine, a historical preparation dating to the Edo-period of Japan that was the first to combine raw sashimi-style fish with vinegar-seasoned rice. Q offers a refined and intimate opportunity for guests to savor and celebrate uncompromised Tokyo-style sushi here in Los Angeles. Our 26-seat dining room matches the care, creativity, and craft of Chef Hiro's cuisine, melding Japanese tradition and striking modernity. Lighting sets the scene, featuring hundreds of glowing orbs that converge above the sushi bar and direct focus to Chef Hiro and his culinary artworks. From the undulating ceiling to the bar itself, the dining space reflects the deep Japanese appreciation for wood in its relaxing natural form. Furnishings include contemporary interpretations of Japanese Zaisu chairs, and tables that feature centuries-old joinery technique

My husband and I were looking for a great sushi place to eat at on Valentine’s Day in LA. We are from Dallas and are used to spending extra to eat at 5 star restaurants where the fish is flown in daily from japan. The fish did seem slightly more fresh sans the extra 3 hour flight to Texas, which was a pleasant surprise.

With that being said, $525 total for omakase (we didn’t drink alcohol) for 2 should come with a better dining experience. Maybe a little more explanation about the fish and where it is from... maybe enforcing the “no pictures” rule. Not quite sure, but something was lacking.

This place was okay, but we’ll be going somewhere else next time we’re in LA. Also, the valet is part of another establishment next door which made the wait quite long. Not really sure how this place made the Michelin guide. Dinner felt somewhat rushed.

My biggest issue was with the final course— the egg cake. A traditional ending to omakase that was ruined when the chef placed the cake on the same surface he was cutting fish on. It was as if we could taste all 20 courses all over again. My suggestion would be to ditch desert, or find a more sanitary place to slice it.

Not particularly exciting sushi. Standard. I asked for just hot sake since the saki was pretty exclusive. It was $65. Didn’t seem worth it.

Q is my favorite sushi place to go to in LA. The fish is outstanding and changes with what is in season, and the service is impeccable.

The word "perfection" exists for this restaurant. Hiro-san is one of the best itamae's in the states. No chefs even in Manhattan can top him :)

700$ for 15 ‏ sushi bites which each one taste like hell!!!!! ‏ i’ve been in many Omakase style in my life and this one was the worst!!!! It was a birthday dinner for my fiancé And I after we done with this horrible dinner and experience we left next-door to eat pizza because we was still hungry and discussed by the food we were served. I was so disappointed because I wanted to go to this place for a while. Please save yourself the money in the bed experience this place not deserve any Michelin star!!!!!

I’ve never posted a bad restaurant review before , but had a really interesting experience after having dinner here on Thursday night, January 23, 2020. It started well. The restaurant was gorgeous, if a little too sterile looking. We were greeted at the front by a really stern front person, who told my friend that he couldn’t take a picture of anything. Chef was friendly and accommodating and was really cognizant if we had any food restrictions. There was only the 200.00 Omakase that night, which was fine since we were celebrating. The amount of food was fine. I can’t remember how many types of fish we had that night - it was very tasty while were eating and was just the right amount. Now, for the bad part -since leaving the restaurant, my friend and I have been violently ill. Not to be too graphic, but we have been constantly going to the bathroom all through the night on Thursday, all day Friday. It is now Saturday and it is still going on. We have traveled all over the world and have eaten at the highest end restaurants and to street food and have never been this sick. I’m not sure if anyone else got sick that night, but just wanted to call attention to this matter. We are really disappointed because of Q’s reputation and the recommendation of a couple of friends. Maybe, it was an off night, but I would think twice about coming here. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again with other patrons!

Service was great. attentive to filling my water and removing dishes. The fish was so good. I could tell alot of prep went into making the fish taste so fresh.. none to minimal fishness. Im not a fan of the rice though due to personal preference for sweeter vinegar rice. I think the price was reasonable for the well prepared courses. comparable to Japan

Food was good, variety could have been better for the price of $200. Only 15 dishes & no additions offered by chef after the 15th piece of nigiri served. Service was abrupt and waitress was rude, with 1 Michelin star & a mandatory 20% service charge.

The food - outstanding as most diners write. I appreciated the classic nigiri and the quality of the fish.
But a meal is a wholistic experience and on that level my meal was miserable. I arrived a few minutes before my 8pm reservation. I was seated at the bar, and the waitress gave me a beverage menu. After a few minutes, she walked by and took the drinks menu. Didn't ask me if I wanted anything, just took it and seemed kind of hostile about it. I waited patiently as my food started arriving then told her I wanted to order sake, and pointed out the one I wanted, Dassai 50, a sake I have had many times. She said, that's very sweet and we do not recommend, we recommend this and pointed to something twice the price. Why offer a total of six sake choices and have one be something you do not recommend? So, I ordered a sake in between prices.
Meanwhile, all the other tables paid their check and left. They had all been there since the beginning of the 6 pm seating and extolled how wonderful their lengthy meal was. Since I was the lone diner my courses came back to back, sometimes I still had food in my mouth when another piece was set down in front of me. There was only the most perfunctory explanation of what I was served, I was never asked what I like and do not like, the chef seemed on autopilot to serve me a set menu of choices. I felt like they could not wait for me to leave so they could close up.
By 8:44 I had paid my check and was out the door. For a meal that cost over $350, this was a painful, disappointing and utterly unacceptable experience. However, since there is a mandatory tip included I "had to" give a $50+ tip! There are so many great sushi restaurants in LA, avoid this one like the plague.

Q is the best sushi restaurant in Downtown LA. It is a completely different scene from Sugarfish, but it depends what you want. If you want a romantic quiet restaurant that is all about food and service, then go to Q. If you want a buzzy and noisy scene, go to Sugarfish.

This is an aesthetic experience of the highest order. The chef is a master. Every course is a balance of taste, heat, sweet, texture and visual design. The fish is so fresh. Some selections are from our coast, some from Japan, etc. Everything is so elegantly complex and simple at the same time. And the interior of the restaurant is exquisite. i can't wait to return

This was one of the worse Sushi meals we have ever had. It compares unfavorably to many of the middle of the road sushi restaurants around LA, let alone amongst the several other popular high end prix-fix “omakase” only Sushi restaurants.

The rice was dry and a little chewy. Most of the fishes were tough and smelly. My first dish, was an oyster with a broken shell inside that I had to spit out. The food was prepared in an assembly like fashion for the 10 or so customers at the counter all at once rather than custom for each customer like it is customary for “omakase” meals. We kept waiting for the next dish to wow us but that moment never arrived. There was no personal interaction with the chef except at the moment he dropped the food in front of us and told us what each dish was. The meal ended abruptly with a steamed egg cake. Super average. Nothing was special about this experience. It felt like an absolute scam aimed at young tourists primarily. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone. We spent $720 in two people including the extremely average and overprized sake. I can think of at least 10 sushi restaurants around LA where my wife and I coukd have had a 10 times better meal for under $150. I’m not sure how this place is surviving. I should have known better based on how easy it was to get a reservation at the last minute.

Don’t waste the money. This is not the restaurant that supposedly had a Michelin star. It doesn’t even come close.

Overall amazing experience. Dinning room is intimate and tasteful. The only critique I would say is that while the variety and overall quality of fish was great, for $500+ for 2 people, I was underwhelmed by some of the fish courses served. Some fish seemed like they were fairly ordinary especially for high end sushi (i.e. I would have expected to be served at a $60 dinner, not a $200 per person omakase dinner). They did serve multiple courses of blue fin tuna (otoro, chutoro, and maguro), and opening dishes were nontraditional and unique. Overall outstanding meal and worth a visit if you are big sushi fan. Note, pace of dinner is slow 2 hours, but watching the chef is a show in itself, viewing a master in action.

I read the description, and my expectation was really a Japanese style restaurant. Do not get me wrong: the food is superb quality, but ir misses in how you are treated im Japan when you have a meal. Reception was cold. Service was cold and without a soul. And the price is real high just for that. I have paid a higher price for an Omakase, but with a top service which leaves you totally satisfied. The description is not accurate in saying you feel like in Tokyo. I do miss that feeling.
