Very good fish, nothing that stand out over other good sushi restaurants.
Thank you Chef Hiro, Mrs. K! The best, should definitely be on the must-try list for sushi in LA. Slice of Japan in downtown LA. Excellent service! Masterful indeed!
I was a bit confused when I first heard there is only one head chef who will serve 10 customers at the same time. This is because Omakase style sushi dining usually requires personal attention to each customer: what the person is drinking and eating, and how fast the person is eating. That being said, there were certain times when the delivery of each sushi piece was delayed, but overall I think Chef Hiro did a good job giving personal attention to each customer. In terms of food, everything was fresh and I could taste the details of each fish. However, as some of other reviewers mentioned, both the number and variety of sushi pieces seemed little limiting for the price being paid. A tip for future customers: get to the restaurant 10 minutes early and ask for the middle seats that are right in front of Chef Hiro (if you arrive late, you might be put in the corner seats where you can't observe the hand-skills performed by Chef Hiro).
One of the best experiences in LA, amazing service and food quality A+
Can never go wrong with Chef Hiro / Q. Thank you chef!
Spectacular sushi. A true 5 star experience. A little slice of Japan in downtown LA. Worth every penny. Perfection.
Wonderful Evening ever! I will go back to Q again. Really like the environment and quiet bar there.
It was so dang delicious! Went with the $200 option Chef's choice. At the end of the meal before dessert, The chef asks you if you want to eat anything again. It was the right fullness level, I was very satisfied!
First time for lunch and service was impeccable as always. Started off with sake while I waited for my dining partner to show up. Started to drool and dream as I watched the diners beside me getting their meals.
It’s best not to skimp with the smaller tasting menu. There are many items that you will regret not getting.
His iwashi was perfectly prepped and salt pickled. I havent had one that was seasoned so well and complimented his strong vinegared flavored rice.
Always a fan of kombu marinated shrimp and it was exceptionally well done...the flesh was firm and luxurious bouncy. Something that likens itself to perfectly raw lobster.
Thank you very much for a fantastic meal...it made me forget it was just lunch.
A+ quality and service! Each piece will make you look forward to the next bite (that Japanese Perch).. Great ambiance, thank you Chef Hiro & Mrs. K, always a pleasure to dine at Q. The best.
Exceptional night with Chef that discussed each course and was very helpful! Highly recommended!
My experience at Q was awesome. Everything was just perfect!! 👌
Food was excellent but after a 15-course omakase tasting menu, and 3 additional courses, I had to go across the street and eat two tacos to fill me up.
It was a bad start because the lady working there as a manager grabbed my front of the camera while i was takig a video of the interiors, then the explanation was we dont want customers being filmed, so i said is there customers inside? Because i was the only customer in the store. It was the first reservation of the day. I have zero clue why she just came out the door and grabbed my camera instead of talking to me, which was extremly rude and disrepectful.
Consistent quality/service, always great to see chef Hiro in his element. Thank you for the excellent meal, until our next visit.
For starters it's pricey, but the fish was the freshest I've ever tasted. Sadly, the experience started on a sour note. When we arrived there were six open seats at the bar, we were placed in the corner furthest away from the chef. We asked to move so as not to be close to the bathroom and they basically lied and said a party of four was coming to the other seats, only to watch two separate couples be seated many minutes apart. Since it was my wife's birthday and the bill was over $700 I would expect that they would have allowed us to move since we got there before the other couples. While it was good, in my opinion, it's not worth a 2nd visit - there is a lot of amazing sushi in LA for a fraction of the price, but if you're a die-hard fan put it on your bucket list.
I don't where to begin. I was celebrating my dates birthday by taking her to this magnificent gem of an experiential delicacy. I'd only experienced Q during a lunch following mediation with the Quinn, Emmanuel guys. This time I needed to have the full experience. I came prepared with an exquisite bottle of champagne, which they allow for a modest $25 corkage fee. We also had a nice, dry sake to start from their excellent selection. Upon entering, I was actually pleasantly surprised to see Chef Hiro, as on the previous occasion he was not present. My date was unsure of exactly what to expect. The ambience was beautifully curated, everything fit together perfectly, the music, the company, the drink, and last but never ever least, the food. All of the fish was amazing, the sardine was my personal favorite, while my date was enamored by the toro. Everything was exceptional, the fish was perfectly cured or covered in excellent, but subtle sauces. There were point during this experience in which I was transported, I felt like I was in Mid district Tokyo. It was only until after we left, and went outside into the Urban DTLA jungle that I finally came back to earth. I genuinely don't think this experience could have been any better. I forgot to mention that we were the only two people in the entire restaurant, therefore we had all of Chef Hiro attention. I cannot wait to come back.
The place was great very subdued, reminded me of sushi restaurant in Japan. The food, the quality of the fish was excellent. I would come back to this place for sure.
This place costs a pretty penny, but it’s an amazing experience as you watch a master at his craft. So, if you can appreciate that you are paying for more than just “sushi” this is a place to try. The omakase will take your breath away. It is truly magical. Sit at the bar and you will make friends easily with other diners as you marvel at the sushi being purposely placed on your plate. Even the ginger is astounding. Such a great place to celebrate a special occasion.
Chef Hiroyuke is the best! The variety of courses that he presents is magnificent. Q has became our go-to for fine dining Japanese cuisine.
What to say about Q... I've been wanting to go here for some time because of its reputation. The experience definitely lived up to the hype and my expectations. Chef Hiro cranks out about 20 courses in 90 minutes and they're all stellar. Very traditional Japanese omakase restaurant. Would love to go back to try the menu as it changes over time from what fish he selects....but the cost is VERY high. Between dinner, 2 glasses of beer and (shared) 2 bottles of sake with 3 other people, my share of the tab (after revisiting 2 dishes & service fee/tip) was >$400. I've been to some great omakase sushi where I was drunk at the end from so many beers and was filled up to my eye balls in amazing fish for 2 people for less than that. So while the overall experience is GREAT, its definitely not for the faint of heart with their pocket book....
One of the best places in LA to get premium sushi. Spring for the Botan menu highly recommended. A+ service, consistent quality. Thank you Chef Hiro, Mrs K. The best!
Excellent service 10/10! Excellent ambiance. Ordinary quality fish.
If you’re looking for a nice dining experience I highly recommend!
If you’re looking high quality fish, I do not recommend. If you’ve enjoyed high end sushi before you will not be satisfied with Q’s selection.
Chef Hiro and his staff really set the bar for us as far as dining omakase style at a sushi bar with a sushi chef. Being able to sit front row watching a very focused yet friendly sushi chef at work - presenting his talented pieces to his guests was a one-of-kind experience with Chef Hiro. It is pricey but worth it. The ambiance was quiet and elegant. Definitely somewhere I’d recommend taking someone on a date or even to have a light dinner party with friends. In each piece presented, you can tell how different it is from other sushi places. Very fresh, very tasteful, very detailed. His one staff that did all the clearing of dishes, refilling of water/drinks, and gracefully welcomed and thank’d each guest at the door was very on point and did not miss a beat. Mind there were 10 of us in one sitting at the bar, and she was minding all of our each and every move - whether it was showing us to the bathroom or pushing our chair back in when we sat back in.
They do include a 20% service charge which two ladies who sat next to us showed their dismay with sarcasm when their check was presented, but at a place like this with nothing but impeccable service and food I should hope they include a service charge for people who do want to enjoy the experience but get cheap around the gratuity percentages. Job well done to Chef Hiro and his staff at Q Sushi. We’ll be coming back when we visit LA again.
Minimalist perfection from a true master. The omakase menu unveils itself slowly over the course of about two hours and it’s pure inspiration. A little slice of the Ginza in downtown. 10++
Best sushi/sashimi experience I have ever enjoyed!
The chef is skilled. I had a really nice communication with him
Best sushi I have ever had. Highly recommended
Best sushi in LA. Exquisite fish, excellent quality and presentation.
Authentic sushi. Great quality.
Amazing quality and service as always. Seasonal fish was excellent, not to mention the egg cake (can literally eat that for B/L/D).. Thank you chef Hiro and Mrs K! A+
Definitely a must try for sushi purists
Extraordinary service and amazing sushi!
Sushi was slightly disappointing for the price
There was little variety in the dishes and preparations were uninspiring. The sushi was nothing more than rather average fish over rice. If looking for a touch of lemon zest, yuzu or any other subtle complement tp the fish, go elsewhere. At one point, five out of six pieces were tuna. This was a total disappointment. Just go to Sushi Zo where the fish is reliably excellent if looking for omakase.
Sublime in every way. Never had better sushi outside Tokyo. Eric and Hiro are both graceful, creative and masterful. Very expensive, of course, but well worth it.
best sushi in los angeles
One of the worst meals I've had! And the price tag was ridiculous. A huge disappointment. I would never go there again.
The ambiance was very intimate and personal. It was just a group of my friends and the sushi chef and waitresses. The entire experience was unique. However for as much as we paid I expected more food. In terms of quality the food was great. In terms of quantity, it was lacking.
Extraordinary experience, outstanding food and service, wonderful discussions with the chef, felt very welcomed, thank you for a special evening.
Some of the best sushi I’ve ever eaten outside of Japan. Served by graceful, friendly chefs (thanks, Erik!) in a grand space. The superb experience does come at a price: Dinner for one, with a $200 bottle of sake, was almost $500.
This is the place for people who like to experience the authentic high end raw fish. I went for dinner tasting menu. Only a couple of plates that are cooked. The sauces are delicate and tasty. I couldnt believe how the real wasabi can be so mild. It’s fun to observe how the chefs prepare food for you one bite at a time. The fish are fresh from various parts of the world. One fish (I don’t remember the name) tastes like coconut meat with the crunch and everything. It would be better if they offer more than one desert.
