Q Haute Cuisine (formerly La Caille) Ratings and Reviews
Our family had a lovely New Years Eve dinner at Q Haute. The food was exciting, interesting, tasty, well prepared....obviously a very talented chef in the kitchen. The staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. A lovely place to experience fun gastronomy! We look forward to dining there again!
We went there as a family. We had never been at Q for dinner so the tasting menu was a bit of a surprise (although it was mentioned when they confirmed the reservation). We thought there may also be a la carte options, but there weren’t. That being said, the food was very good and original. The 7 course menu was too much food, but included a lot of variety (fish, poultry, lamb, etc.)
We liked the little tour of the restaurant and kitchen in the middle of the meal. It was nice to stretch our legs and see a restaurant kitchen. Service was very attentive and the food was delicious. Definitely a special occasion place. We’ll likely go back on a night they have the 5 course tasting menu (weeknights).
When I made last night's reservation to celebrate our 27th anniversary, I did not read about the set menu, so it was a scary surprise to find out about the 7 courses! I knew the courses would be small, but I usually do not eat a lot, so thank you for thinking about accommodating my needs, in the first place. No worries, both my husband and I had the 7 courses and, eating just half of everything, I managed to try all the good stuff. My favorite was, of course, the "Big Mitch and His Expensive Surprise", accompanied by a very nice Jurançon.
Having a tour of the kitchen (the appliances are amazing!) and explanations about the building's life and renovations was a plus, which made the night even more special. Congratulations and a bit thank you to all the wonderful staff and specially to Josh, who even gave me a bit of Sumatran coffee beans to try at home!
I regret that we celebrated our 6th anniversary here.
-Lamb that was tough and under-seasoned
-Molecular gastronomy that has made the jump from unexpected to inedible (The panna cotta was congealed and chewy)
-Wine pairings designed to save money
There were a few bites throughout the night that were good. The ahi tuna phyllo Cup; divine! The chicken and squash ravioli; mesmerizing!
I will say that the front of house and overall customer service levels were good. The sommelier could tell we were not enjoying our meal and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and valued.
This really comes down to food. If you sit down for a 7 course tasting menu, and pay the corresponding price, you expect a certain level of quality. You will not find that here.
Frustrated, describes both how I feel, and the execution of the menu.
I would not recommend your restaurant for anything, to anyone. Here is my review that I left on Trip Advisor website:
Three hours of wasted time and money. A seven-course dinner consisted of a tiny appetizer, a pasta dish (one piece of chicken ravioli - yes, JUST ONE PIECE), a small piece of tasteless, overcooked beef, and a few more equally revolting items. Total bill: $480 (including tips) for the three of us. And we did not order any booze.
The portions were not tiny - microscopic. It looked more like a silly joke.
For those who go there, seeking a new experience: have a dinner before dining at Haute Cuisine. Oh yes, they will give a tour of their kitchen. Instead of food.
Folks, this is a blatant scam. I've never been more insulted by what they passed to me as "dinner". All three of us felt like idiots.
We had a wonderful evening. The food was amazing. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.
We especially want to mention our server Josh, he was great and shared his vast knowledge of wine and food which made the night even more special. We will definitely go again and would recommend to our friends and family.
I was very impressed by all the food choices. We each choose a 3 course lunch and loved every bite. The restaurant is very accommodating to food allergies etc. and the service was amazing: knowledgeable staff.
The ONLY downsizes are: parking is a challenge and they charge $4 per person for still, tap water... Still scratching my head on this one!
This place is a little fancier than I would usually choose but my husband received a gift certificate so my sister and I went for lunch... it was awesome and really quite affordable for a NICE lunch date. It is nice dining but not so nice we felt out of place. Service was great, nice and professional. The food though--SO GOOD. We enjoyed a lovely 3 course lunch and everything was delicious! Would defiantly return!
Chefs night was a magnificent culinary journey.
The secret yet not set in stone menu can be tailored to your likes and dislikes.
The meal was amazing - the flavors, textures, colors were stunning and the overall presentation was breathtaking.
If you are looking for an upscale meal to please all senses then you can't go wrong here.
It was our first time at Q Haute and we were pleasantly surprised with the creative and tasty dishes we sampled on a 10-dish tasting menu complete with a kitchen tour to boot!
We also had a chance to do tea pairing from our sommelier who schooled us with various samples that truly complimented our food and interesting anecdotes about tea - we had a very memorable 11th year anniversary celebration with a very engaging 3-hr dinner!
Thank you for making it super special and for handling the gluten-free sensitivity with so much care. Keep up your good work!
Very very good. It's expensive though. It was my hubby's birthday so I wanted to treat him to an experience instead of just a dinner. For the two of us with the tasting menu and the wine pairings with tip it was just over $500. Ouch. It started off exceptional with a story/pairings and it was really amazing. Then they sort of forgot about us. By the last two courses it was taking 20 minutes and we were told "we got a really big group of 16 so we got busy" that was annoying. We were there 3 hours.
Right on Q! We've been coming here for years and keep coming back thank to great service, delicious food and a pleasant ambiance. The Costco coupon provides excellent value, however be sure to get the 'included' beverages before deciding if additional is desired.
Our tasting menu dinner paired with tea was unforgettable. Josh's extensive knowledge of wine and tea made the experience second to none. We are sure to come back to Q on our next visit to Calgary. Thank you for the hospitality of the Chef, Josh, and the whole staff.
I would say this was a cool experience for my wife and two adult kids ( 25 wedding anniversary) was to expensive though and my son and I were still hungry after even though we had 6-7 courses. Again this was a neat experience but the value was not good. It was $425 for 4 of us with no wine, I had 3 beer, everyone else had water. Great service! I don't know may come back for 50th!!
Unexpected value - you are treated like Royalty and get excellent value for your dollar. I think this restaurant is overlooked thinking it will be too expensive...2 course meal for $20 and pampered service - i've paid more for a hamburger and french fries with no service and not as great a food. Highly recomment this for business, family, social, dates, you name it! It's good to be spoiled - give it a try!
Went here for a special occassion. It was outstanding. This place is so much more than just somewhere for dinner. It truly is a full-on culinary experience. The food was excellent and service was above and beyond, even for fine dining. Do the wine pairing, you will not regret it. The sommelier is a wealth of really interesting information. Overall, we were absolutely thrilled with the experience.
We were very impressed with the staff; they were very courtious. Because there were few people, the parking was good; we found a spot without having to drive around. It would be ideal if an elevator was available for handicapped people, particularily for someone in a wheelchair. As this was a private birthday luncheon, we are unable to make more recommendations.
We can't express enough how much we enjoyed our experience. The service provide by Josh was second to none. The food was incredible. The tea pairing to our dishes was spectacular. We have never had a dining experience such as this and would strongly recommend booking a reservation for an evening you will not forget!
Qhaute is simply outstanding. My husband and I had our wedding reception there and just recently celebrated our one year anniversary there this weekend. The service is beyond words and we could not stop talking about how exceptional our experience was. From the food to the very personalized touches, we were swept off our feet. We will be back to celebrate more nights at Qhaute.
This particular evening was a bistro night where we enjoyed 4 courses and decided to add the wine pairings, which were a great touch. I loved how kind all the staff were and the tour into the kitchen was a very memorable experience. It was a very romantic restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and we are looking forward to coming back on a weekend to try the 7 course meal.
The most over-used phrase throughout the night was "life changing". We are still trying to process the 4 hours of culinary excellence that our group had the pleasure of enjoying on the weekend. There are bites that have created life long memories and we are grateful for the experience!
