Among the ruins of ancient Greece were items such as clay pots that revealed many clues to daily Hellenic life. PYLOS (pronounced Pee-'los) - the root word that includes things of clay - celebrates these prosaic artifacts we now recognize as great art.

Birthday in NYC
Muy buen lugar, agradable y acogedor, la atención excelente, la comida buena auténtica
Wonderful place. Food is excellent, service terrific- ask for Alexandra
Great upscale but not too fancy greek restaurant. Had a hip vibe and every seat in the house was packed!
We came with teenagers and they loved it too. Great for a family night or date.
My family came from overseas to NYC. Pylos was my first visit. Foods in particular, Octopus and Lamp chop and Sevices by waiters were outstanding and we will come back. Thank you
This was our first time visiting Pylos and we could not have selected a better restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday! We ordered as follows: Pear arugula salad with cheese and pistachios. - absolutely delicious. Grilled octopus - the best I've eaten. Grilled whole fish - excellent. Side order of roasted potatoes with lemon, garlic and oregano - reminded me of those my Grandmother made. For desert we had Christos towering Galoktobourekakia with Greek coffee. I'm running out of adjectives but suffice it to say it fabulous. The ambience and service exceeded expectations. It was so difficult to decide what to eat, but there's always next time. And there will be many return visits.
A tranquil place for lunch near Tompkins Square Park.
Very good the vegatable moussaka was better than the meat and i am not a vegetarian you can order as main course which i will next time
Always go when I’m in town
We enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner at Pyros. They had a Greek take on a turkey meal-turkey breast stuffed with ground pork and beef. Very nice. Delicious squash soup, salad and dessert. What we missed was good old pumpkin pie.
Thanksgiving meal was fabulous. We were very impressed with the food and service. Many thanks to all for a special meal.
Waiter so nice
Love the fresh fish
Food was great! Mr Arthur our server was very helpful! Hope I got his name right! Thank you!
FABULOUS ALL AROUND, WE’VE EATEN HERE ON MANY OCCASIONS AND IT NEVER DISAPPOINTS!
The food was unimaginative, not very flavorful and there was a suggestion that the fish was not as fresh as it should be.
Thank you for your feedback. Our apologies for the food experience. I can assure you that we have fresh fish daily and quality ingredients! Best regards Pylos team
An East Village classic!
Food and ambiance were wonderful. Order everything you can eat!
The booking/seating issue was very hard to overcome as we waited 45 mins outside in the cold to be seated with no real apology.
My Greek "go to" that never disappoints.
Great food, nice vibe, very authentic
Wonderful all around
Everything was delicious, service was outstanding since the minute we walked in till we left the place. I loved it, definitely will go back.
Excellent friendly service. Healthy huge portions. Not the standard Greek fare, but new flavorful explosions of unusual tastes. Everything ordered was delicious. Fish (Pistachio encrusted Sea Bass with pesto was very fresh and too much for one meal, so now I get to eat it for dinner two nights in a row.
Regular guest. Very consistant quality of food and service. Two rooms are a good noise mitigation.
Great restaurant. Some of the best grilled octopus I have ever eaten. It was tender and delicious.
One of NY's most consistently outstanding dining experiences. Hadn't been in a few years, and while the menu doesn't change (THANK YOU!!!) the food is as fresh as it's always been, the Greek wines invariably a discovery, and the service always smiling and accommodating. Reserve ahead for prime times, though late on a weekday evening we had no trouble with a last minute table for 4. Do not miss the artichoke moussaka.
The food was very good, all very well-seasoned and cooked, although perhaps too seasoned and cooked. We had the grilled octopus, fried meatballs, fried cheese (all starters) and the lamb chops. This was just a party of 2 diners. Everything was so delicious, but a tad salty. I was guzzling down water so fast. I think the octopus and cheese were wonderful, the meatballs a little too over done, and the lamb chops with the eggplant was amazing! Just wished I ordered the lamb chops to be medium-well instead of well done.
Didn’t have room for desert or wine, but would definitely be heading back here again! The ambience and service was excellent!! Such a great place for a cozy, intimate dinner with friends or family or a first date.
I LOVE this restaurant. We go there all the time and it's always, always lovely: welcoming, comfortable, classy, and absolutely delicious. This is a place that radiates good energy and pride in doing something well. It comes out in the food, the wine selection, and the service. If you haven't been to Pylos yet, GO!
Outstanding experience! I have been to Pylos several times before and was always impressed, so when the opportunity came to go back to NYC, I wanted to bring along other colleagues to experience Pylos.
Pylos has a modern Greek flare, introducing new concepts of tastes and presentations of traditional Greek cuisine. For appetizers, the Flamed Greek Chees (Saganaki) is a standout, probably the best I have ever had in the U.S. and Greece too. The Pasticcio (Greek Lasagna) and Mousaka (Layered Egglants, with béchamel sauce) were fantastic. Save room for deserts especially the galaktoboureko (custard in layered honey soaked filo) and the chocolate pudding with hints of ouzo. Wine list is impressive and priced well-for a change recommend trying the Moschofilero (white wine) which is made from a uniquely Greek grape varietal, and has an aromatic scent. Reservations should be sought at least a week in advance especially for weekend nights.
We came for a Sunday brunch and enjoyed the place and food very much. The food is not traditional Greek, rather modern reflection of Greek dishes - great experience! Interior and overall ambiance is like at the higher-end restaurant, while the prices are very reasonable.
Beautiful restaurant, great food and service.
Great food, nice waiters, cozy atmosphere
The food was delicious - there were 5 in our party and we shared a bunch of appetizers and 2 main dishes and it was all really great!
Everything was superb!! Hidden gem in NYC. Make it a point to have dinner here.
Food is exquisite and the wine selection is superb. Perfect balance of reds and whites to pair with meals, as well as, career waiters who know their menu like the back of their hand. Highly, highly recommend this place.
PS - I saw Richard Greer from pretty woman hear once during brunch!
Great place. food is great, atmosphere is really nice, service is Good and Good value. All Greek place4s shpould be like this awsome restaurant.
Love the ambiance and decor. Good food. Would definitely go back.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I can't say that I like their reservation policy which has a monetary punishment for cancellations under 24 hours. We would happily eat there again anytime.
The food was good but service was average. I was not asked if I wanted to pack my food. We literally had 40% of food left, which was a disappointment. The quality of service should also match the price point.
Exquisite and service was perfect.
