Among the ruins of ancient Greece were items such as clay pots that revealed many clues to daily Hellenic life. PYLOS (pronounced Pee-'los) - the root word that includes things of clay - celebrates these prosaic artifacts we now recognize as great art.

All good. Excellent service, food was delicious, ambiance is nice and mellow. Prices reasonable for New York. We had reservations for outdoors but due to forecast of rain, we switched to indoors. Good thing. The outdoor seating is on East 7th Street in a small shed. Looked kind of pitiful. Big contrast with the indoor space.

Pylos is a decadent twist on yiayia’s cooking served up with decadence in the East Village. Lefteris, our waiter, went out of his way to make our dining experience special, and the owner followed suit. Every dish was perfectly prepared and the meal was well coursed out to ensure we had time to enjoy, without any extended awkward pauses. The kitchen did a good job at pacing! I practiced my Greek with the staff, and they made me feel like a regular. Keep up the good work Pylos!

Was just as impressed by my most recent visit as I was during the first few years the restaurant was open. They gave us a quiet table as requested; the food was outstanding. Such a pretty venue. Will be returning soon!

My husband and I had been to Pylos before the pandemic and returned for our wedding anniversary. The decor was ever bit as romantic and rustic as we remembered, and the food was even more delicious as we remembered! The octopus was absolutely amazing. We also each had a lamb shank - the well seasoned meat just fell off the bones. The only minor issue (which the restaurant would have little control) was the noise level. Regardless, a great meal and excellent value.

The food and wine are perfect. The people who work there are gracious and helpful. It is a lovely, happy, gently elegant place to dine. I wish there were more vegetarian entrees and dishes, however.

Food and service were superlative. The pistachio-crusted striped bass was a revelation, and the chicken was a taste sensation. Our server, Lefteris, was gracious, generous and convivial. If there's a better restaurant in New York, I don't what it is.

Dined last night for my friend's birthday. We had such a wonderful experience. The food was fresh and flavorful. The ambience was perfect. I love the ceramic pots on the ceiling and our waiter, Leftis was thoughtful and generous with his time. I had the branzino with a side of field greens which I was expecting to be bitter and they were not. My friend had the lamb chops which she loved and we shared a traditional Greek salad.We had mousse for dessert which was amazing! My friend and I wanted to lick the glass clean it was so tasty. I have been raving about my experience to my colleagues and my dad. I am looking forward to dinning here again in the near future.

Once again, a fantastic experience! They accommodated our request to postpone of 2 hours our reservation, and once again our request of a particular table we asked for. Amazing food (poikilia, melted cheese, wow!), the moussaka, the delicious lamb chops and the pistachio crusted filet of sea bass and the dessert. Impeccable service (Dino was our waiter, such a professional and nice guy!). Prices have definitely gone up after the pandemic, but that's a general issue.... Looking forward to our next time at Pylos!

First time to dine here; celebrating our anniversary. Dino, our waiter, was excellent…quick, efficient, non-intrusive but there when you needed him. The moussaka was absolutely superb—best I’ve ever had. Salmon was wonderful—great presentation, perfectly cooked. The meatballs are very special…light and airy. The atmosphere is quite nice, although the location is a bit out of the way. But it was totally worth the trip! Definitely will return here; best Greek food we’ve ever eaten outside of Greece!
