Fantastic place!! Sure it was a bit pricey for the amount of food you get. But it's a resort! That's to be expected! But the meal was absolutely delicious!! Crab cake was out of this world! My husband had the Delmonico steak and I had the lemon and rosemary chicken. They were both done beautifully. Service was top notch and staff pleasant. Will definitely be going back!
Spent several days at the resort. First time we ate dinner at the restaurant. My husband said his halibut was wonderful. I had the maple brined fried chicken. It was to die for. I usually do not get fried chicken out because I am always dissatisfied. This was wonderful. We were offered dessert but we were too full
I wanted this to be a good experience but sadly it failed epically.
Saratoga Springs needs a five-star experience but this isn't it. The server failed to remove the extra place settings. The wait for the first course was excruciating. No bread was offered in the interim. The ambience was sadly lacking with no effort to remove food crumbs long deposited on the carpets.
On the positive side, both the quality of the food and portions served were well above average. The service was quite superb and our waitress (server) [sic] made up for deficiencies in other areas. She radiated genuine hospitality.
The Gideon Putnum could quite honestly be everything Saratoga Springs needs but is not yet there. This could be a terrific place and my hope is that the management will take this friendly critique in the spirit in which it was intended.
Horrible service bordering on incompetent. Made reservations for my wife and 2 daughters. My daughters meals came out prior the appetizer we ordered and my wife never even received her main entree. When it was brought to the waiters attention, he said he put the order in now but it would be another 20-30 minutes. My daughters were already done with their meals so my wife just left, frustrated. At least my wife's meal was taken off the bill once she complained. Unreal!!
Fish not cooked as requested. Waiter then explained, after serving it over cooked, that it couldn't be served as requested. Should have told us immediately so that order could be changed allowing us to eat together. Very disappointing particularly since restaurant was not busy.
I really wanted to like it, because it's a beautiful location and brunch options in Saratoga are sparse, but I was disappointed. For $40 a person, you expect more selection (for example, no waffles, no carving station). Just did not seem like the offering was worth the price. In addition, they ran out of plates, and when the next delivery of plates came and I took one, i realized I had grabbed some squishy muffin that had remained stuck to the bottom of the plate I grabbed as it went through the wash. Again, not the experience I wanted to have for that price.
This was our second time attending the Sunday brunch. The primary reason for my poor rating was the terrible service. The dining room was not crowded and we had a difficult time getting coffee, juice or water. The server never asked if we wanted a cocktail. The food was either lukewarm or cold on the buffet. Very disappointing . Will not return.
The service at The Gideon is spotty. There is rarely a hostess, in fact at 12 noon the bartender told us that the hostess was on a break. Note - this is a full service resort hotel, not just a stand alone restaurant, and this was Labor day weekend and they were almost at capacity in the hotel.
They also did not know anything about Open Table or the points etc. That said once a few more tables came for lunch, the service picked up and we were taken care of. The sandwiches are expensive but very good and the view from the patio of the park is pleasant.
The food was good, the service was excellent but the noise level was so high that you could not hear the entertainment or each other. If you want to talk to your dinner companions I would not recommend eating inside. We had no choice due to inclement weather.
Had an awful recent experience at their Sunday brunch! Came for a number of special occasions which converge in August - anniversary's and birthdays. The service was HORRIBLE - and they "automatically" added the tip to the charge as we had 8 of us. I always tip well, but in this case, I would have left no tip as we had to get our own coffee (for a VERY DIRTY kitchen area that the servers use), had no plates removed when used (this is a buffet where little service is required, but used plates should be removed), and no refills on coffee, as well as food used in buffet was not replaced!! I was concerned about the cleanliness as the area where the servers use was totally disgustingly FILTHY - and I believe we saw our server a total of two times during our whole experience. We used a neighboring table to pile our dishes upon - and that table which was unused had clearly not been cleaned off from the long-gone customers (they probably left due to the terrible service). The food was OK. . . . . . used to be dependable - no longer. The only good news is that the view of the park was amazing - but lets face it, the kitchen does not control that. WOULD NOT return - despite having gone there regularly for 20+ years as we are "locals" - poorly managed. AND, I left a message for the manager who was not there on a Sunday (big mistake), who did not return my call - but indicated when I called later in the week that he had received my message "and was just about to call me." He apologized and offered a discount on the meal - as well as a gift card to be used at a future visit. Needless to say, no discount card was ever received despite a lengthy and pleasant conversation. . . . . . WOULD NOT RECOMMEND OR RETURN!
Awful. Terrible service, no one in the restaurant on a Saturday night at 8pm- should have been my first clue. Atmosphere was totally outdated. Service was terrible, the waiter could not seem to remember who ordered what, even if it was only one glass of wine. He would come back to the table and wonder which of the seven of us ordered it...This went on the whole night, who had the cheesecake? Who had the salad? Who had the martini (oh, no one! because he ordered a gin and tonic!!)
Food was terrible. 3 of us order beef, all ordered medium. We got one rare, one well done and one medium. Guess they were hedging their bets.. Good thing he didn't come back to check on how we liked the meals until we were done. The one person who had the beef done right shared his dinner with the other two who had their beef done wrong. But we did get a free AWFUL slice of carrot cake to make up for it.
Whatever they used to do right, they no longer do. Don't waste your time or money. So many great restaurants in the Saratoga area. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
Father's Day brunch was a joyful day of well-prepared food and exceptional service! All diners at my table were impressed with the environment and the wait staffs willingness to please. The ONLY suggestion for even better service is to label gluten free options for those who are sensitive to gluten ... One person in our dining party looked longingly at what she thought might be flourless chocolate cake but reluctantly did not imbibe as she did not want to take a chance.

hmmm....busy Saratoga weekend so we booked this not knowing much. Beautiful location inside a national park. It is an old historic inn with mineral spas. You have to be able to appreciate the 'old' which is quite charming. It was cold so we couldn't sit outside but the area looked beautiful. Service was 'eh'. Nothing to rave about. Food was ok. There was a jazz duet playing and they were quite good. Overall relaxing environment. Would be a nice place to have drinks with a group. Food is fine.
Very nice brunch, but a little expensive, the warm food was not so special like breakfast and deserts, need more soups, the antepasta was not great, but ok.
Overall, nice setting and service for breakfast not so much for lunch food, (should have some shrimp dish)
Gideon Putnam was where we chose to have Easter brunch this year. We were seated in the corridor between the 2 main eating areas. If Spring was a bit later it would have had a great view. The food was very nice and had many items to choose from although I thought arugula was a little too well represented. The biggest downfall was that the buffet plates were right next to where we sat. Everytime plates were replenished, the noise level increased exponentially. The staff was checking each individual plate to make sure it was clean. We heard each plate get stacked. The noise interrupted our conversation multiple times. Consideration should be given to this issue.
