The hotel and restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The hotel is charming and elegant, but not pretentious at all. Everything was comfortable and the staff was warm and gracious. The dining experience was also excellent !! I think I had the best strip steak ever, the salmon was fresh , wild caught and deliciously prepared and we had a lovely bottle of Pinot Noir that was fabulous !! Superb overall dining experience and stay at the hotel !!
The outside eating area is beautiful. Very peaceful and relaxing. Our server was very professional and friendly and helped make a suggested, he was great. The food was very expensive, limited, and just okay. I think we may have expected a little higher quality for it being so elegant.
Let me start with we’ve eaten here in the past and it was excellent. Now bring that said I’m sure they are short staffed as everyone else is but the service was terrible. It seemed as if we were bothering the waiter. The food was cold. My burger was a frozen patty. This was a far cry from what it was in the past. And not what we expected.
Laughed a lot with our waitress and host. All in all a good night.
Food was very good. Menu selection was quite limited.
We are at the resort for my mother’s birthday. We decided to have dinner our first night in the hotel. The restaurant is clearly understaffed which is a big problem everywhere right now so we understand that. The food was actually bad as well however and that was a pretty big problem. If we thought it would improve we would have sent it back, but didn’t feel hopeful about that. Both pasta dishes were very undercooked and way over salted and both salads were drenched and soggy with too much dressing. The cocktails were good but we had to go to the bar to get a glass of wine after being told by the waiter that the wine we ordered didn’t even exist at the hotel (though the menu showed two different bottles of it). The bar was able to find it.
Small menu but great food! Bonus being in the park and just a short walk to SPAC entrance. Service was a little slow, we had to go find our waiter to pay.
Excellent food, wait staff and atmosphere. Will definitely make this a regular stop!!
If you think fairly posh FORGET THAT! Basically a small room with a bar and some tables with linen. There was a group of about a dozen drinkers VERY loud. The menu was very abbreviated and nothing even exciting. Will never return!!
Amazing on so many levels, sitting outside with a forest in front of us. They serve all tables a basket of the best BBQ homemade potato chips I have ever eaten, fresh from the fryer. ) Potato chips were invented in Saratoga!) We were pre concert at SPAC so ordered one sandwich croissant and one cheeseburger both of which came with fries with same spice as potato chips. The burge was a perfect rare one, the turkey havartu sandwich was also very well prepared and the price was reasonable. Service was attentive and despite this being a very lovely and not inexpensive hotel the meal was a bargain.
Dining outside at Putnam's was delightful. Citronella candles kept the rare mosquito away. Food and service were excellent. I highly recommend and will return.
Beautiful patio. Excellent service!
Excellent experience. Highly recommend! Will come here again!
Live music too loud for such a small space, service very slow, but overall a great location with various seating options.
Patio much nicer
nice casual dinner venue. Perfect for before a SPAC performance. Nice singer and guitarist; lovely staff. Couldn't be nicer.
Great place/ it should be more crowded!
maitre d' did not seat us, just pointed to a table, menu was limited, did not have ingredients for a listed cocktail, needs a dress code, expected much more from a place with such history
Positives: nice atmosphere, pleasant service
Negatives: cocktail menu presented was not available until next week, waitress could not offer alternative ideas for cocktails, cocktails finally served were terrible. Pizza was NOT good (how do you mess up pizza)? Service wasn't great, but not horrible either.
Menu had great choices. Enjoyed my pick. Wait staff was friendly and helpful with answers to my questions. Would definitely come again.
Please work on 1 great vegan/vegetarian option...
I had quinoa salad....little dressing...maybe but on side? And fried tofu wasn't great.
But overall it was okay.
My husband liked his roasted chicken.
This is a very elegant place for dinner. Wonderful location and ambiance. Food is good.
I love the homemade dip and ships. The hamburger was a patty not fresh chop meat.
Lovely restaurant. Batter dipped fries were amazing.
Thank You for the kind words! The fries are delicious, We will be launching our new spring menu very soon, we would be pleased to welcome you back to Putnam's for our new selections :)
Not enough servers for the valentines dinner.
No centerpiece or candle on table.
Slow disorganized service
Very casual, but all in all a great experience.
The food was good but it seems the theme is for after track or content fare rather than dinner date fare.
I recently showed up for dinner at Putnam’s on a Sunday evening. I was informed that the “open table “ reservation I had couldn’t be honored because of some computer snafu. I made the reservation 2 months in advance and showed the staff my open table reservation on my app. No luck . I drove 45 minutes each way. Disappointing.
Putnam's could not confirm that I had a reservation through Open Table. Experience was blah, as usual.
the management informed us the Gideon Putnam is not on OpenTable. They did not have our reservation.
Delicious fresh food
Elegant old-historic hotel in a picturesque setting. Menu is very limited for lunch. Luncheon restaurant location and setting in unimpressive. More what you'd expect at a cheap hotel.
Fantastic place!! Sure it was a bit pricey for the amount of food you get. But it's a resort! That's to be expected! But the meal was absolutely delicious!! Crab cake was out of this world! My husband had the Delmonico steak and I had the lemon and rosemary chicken. They were both done beautifully. Service was top notch and staff pleasant. Will definitely be going back!
Spent several days at the resort. First time we ate dinner at the restaurant. My husband said his halibut was wonderful. I had the maple brined fried chicken. It was to die for. I usually do not get fried chicken out because I am always dissatisfied. This was wonderful. We were offered dessert but we were too full
I wanted this to be a good experience but sadly it failed epically.
Saratoga Springs needs a five-star experience but this isn't it. The server failed to remove the extra place settings. The wait for the first course was excruciating. No bread was offered in the interim. The ambience was sadly lacking with no effort to remove food crumbs long deposited on the carpets.
On the positive side, both the quality of the food and portions served were well above average. The service was quite superb and our waitress (server) [sic] made up for deficiencies in other areas. She radiated genuine hospitality.
The Gideon Putnum could quite honestly be everything Saratoga Springs needs but is not yet there. This could be a terrific place and my hope is that the management will take this friendly critique in the spirit in which it was intended.
I have enjoyed brunch here many times in the past. Spent a lovely evening with family to catch up. The service was awesome. Good food. Room could use some updating
Great place to eat prior to a SPAC event. Good food and Great service! Avoid the traffic from an event and enjoy a leisure dining. When the weather is nice the outside venue is perfect!
Perfect place for dinner prior to an event at SPAC. Our server was handling our party as well as the bar and managed both well. The menu is very good for a lite bite or full meal.
Disappointing menu and extremely slow service. Outdoor patio was very nice and background singer was pleasant.
Excellent Chicken wings with the bourbon sauce. Tuna dish was excellent with the wasabi risotto. Other dish ordered was the bone in pork chop which was very good. Excellent presentation on both dishes. Kudos to the kitchen.
