Purple Palm at the Colony Palms Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Purple Palm is back! After up & down experiences over the past several years, we have now had two recent terrific dinners here. Top notch food & service. Shared two apps, curry roasted cauliflower & a short rib between the 3 of us. Both great though the short rib was the stand out. Each main was distinct, flavorful, fresh with well paired sides. Disappointed when told the grouper had sold out was more than happy with second choice swordfish. Roasted pineapple tart for dessert lived up in quality to what came before. Warm, friendly & efficient service included bringing water & a blanket for our pooch to lay on. Bravo!
I made a reservation for the last lunch seating but when I arrived they said the kitchen was closed up so we could only order from a very limited bar menu that had very ordinary offerings like hamburgers and cesar salad. So I was disappointed that I did not get what I thought I had made a reservation for.
We went for brunch thinking this was going to be a top notch experience. We were very wrong. The menu was uninspiring.
The Bloody Mary was too spicy so instead of making another with less spice, he ‘topped it up’ with tomato juice and never inquired again. It then just tasted like tomato juice.
The English muffin with the Eggs Benedict was so tough to cut through I couldn’t eat it. The coffee we ordered was not refilled.
The small kids in the pool were crying and splashing around us. We didn’t expect so many little children by the pool.
When asked how everything was, we said we had better and it wasn’t good. He just shrugged his shoulders and said oh, sorry.
Bad experience and won’t go back.
Purple Palm at the Colony Palms Hotel is absolutely delightful. We went after dark, so it was even more charming. The menu is imaginative, and the portions are reasonable and priced well. Service was gracious, warm, and friendly. There are some very interesting items on the menu showing great promise, and the starters, mains, and desserts held to that promise. For a special evening of quiet relaxation, dine outdoors in the winter (plenty of heaters); it's a bit more private and romantic. Inside has a measured "hustle and bustle," but it seemed equally gracious and convivial.
If you are not staying at the hotel and want a convenient place to eat....don't bother.
Went for lunch the other day. Small portions, big prices, noisy dining room.
Very disappointed in the Chicken Satay salad. Two little pieces of chicken on a skewer and a bunch of cabbage and corn....$16.
Other dishes at our table were also small and overpriced.
I have been here several times and always enjoyed it. This last visit was very disappointing! Service was terrible, our waiter kept disappearing and the dinner took over an hour to arrive! They did come us drinks because of the wait. The restaurant did not appear overly full so not sure why the service and speed of food arrival was so poor.
I was not satisfied with the service or quality of the food. First of all, in regards to service the meal took entirely too long to arrive to our table. Secondly, when the food did arrive to the table it was not worth the long wait...basic. I would not recommend this restaurant to customers...go to Cheeky’s instead!
We were expecting a Thanksgiving menu and not communicated that it didn’t start until 5:00 our reservations were at 2:00 additionally I called to be assured that they had a variety of options for my Vegan Daughter, they did not .
But they were welcoming and apologized for the miss understanding and the meal was very good .
The Purple Palm has the most attentive wait staff ! Any request is met with a smile and such professionalism! The setting is beautiful for breakfast, lunch or dinner! A best kept secret in Palm Springs! The management should be so proud of the staff that makes all customers want to come back for more!!!
We only get to PS from time to time but always try to get to this restaurant twice each visit . We go only once this visit however. The ambience was excellent and the service was friendly and prompt but the food was not quite as it used to be and we each felt it was a bit disappointing. Perhaps next spring we'll try again to see if it has regained its former level.
Hadn't been to Purple Palm in a while and now wonder why. Service was great, food very creative and beautifully presented. And, the atmosphere is fantastic. Views of the mountains and indoor/outdoor feeling of the place is very Palm Springs. We'll be going more often.
Perfect!! Last time we were in we specifically told the server to pace the meal slow...she didn't at all...we were in and out in :45 with 3 courses! Way too fast for us. We waited to order entrees until we were through our starters and problem was solved. Couldn't find a thing to complain about. The duck was perfect, octopus was good but a small portion. Beet salad yummm
Thank you for another memorable meal.
I looked for a romantic place to take my lovely wife of 40 years. I found it-and much more- at the Purple Palm. The ambience is intimate, cozy, serene, and just plain lovely. The service was immaculate, and the food superb. And, as a totally unexpected treat, the couple at the next table also celebrated a birthday, and the place made us comfortable sharing our celebratory mood with them.
Seated next to an uplit pool, with no noise from the street spoiling the scene, we spent one of the best evenings of our lives there. What a gem of a place!
Been dining here off and on since 2008. Experiences have been up, down and sideways. This was one of our best dinners at PP. The ambience has always been 5 stars; may be the prettiest setting in the area. The menu has again been revised and is more creative without being fussy than it has been in a long time. Eggplant and crab fritter appetizers were excellent; fresh ingredients, beautifully presented and very flavorful. Mains were the pork shank and monkfish. Both were excellent, generous portions, enjoyable sides. Dessert was a pineapple and burnt orange tart which again was terrific. Service was warm and friendly, well informed, prompt w/o being rushed. Here's hoping that the quality of this experience stays consistent and we can make PP our go-to occasion spot for ourselves and for out-of-town visitors.
Food was good but overpriced. Strip steak didn't have much flavor and sauce was overpowering. Pork belly quite good. Food server was excellent. However we were told we couldn't be seated where we wanted (2 person booth) because so many people were coming. 4 people seated on our side of restaurant when we arrived. 12 seated when we left. Annoying that there was either no flexibility or they really didn't know how to manage reservations. When we gave feedback they explained again they needed seating for 100 people that night. Makes no sense and lack of flexibility so annoyed us we left without dessert.
The restaurant location is magical, the service is attentively convenient and informative.
as for the food i can only say one of the best meals we've had in California, the Duck dumpling was a favorite and the octopus was awesome.
the Pork Shank is to die for and i can go on and on but definitely a place not to miss in Palm Springs.
