Pure Ratings and Reviews
We had a wonderful dinner on Valentine's Day. It was our first time there. Fixed menu with a great value for options offered. The house Cab wine was just ok, on the sweet side. Wonderful service and ambiance. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back.
Was very disappointed for the first time. Typically the food and service is much better but went for Valentine's Day and got stuck with a prix fix menu which was just ok. The wine included was not drinkable. Used to be a favorite that I'd recommend but not sure I'd return.
Although attached to a Holiday Inn, this is a great place. It is a combination of Asian and traditional steak house. There is sushi, fish, and enjoyable traditional fare. Our group split the starter combo which was delicious. Lamb chops, scallops, sea bass, chicken, and shrimp were all enjoyed by our table. Definitely recommend.
Wow where do I start. We checked in as a party of 2 the hostess said oh you're the party of 3.. Here we go! Our reservation being 730 the place was empty though a lovely dining room and a fantastic bar area. We had a nice table after about three minutes busboy came over and asked if we wanted water and then never saw him again, waiter came over apologized for wait asked if we wanted water we told him the busboy already asked us he apologized offered us cocktails couldn't decide and he couldn't make any suggestions because he claims they are not allowed to taste anything at the restaurant bosses rules. We ordered two really good cocktails and finally after 12-15 minutes we got our water. Another waiter came over and asked if we were being served and told him yes by two other people. Original waiter came back kept saying I don't know what's going tonite we are just shortstaffed things are being really unorganized tonite in the kitchen busboys waitstaff etc tons of complaining from the waiter bad mouthing the entire staff sorry to say guys, though he was very nice not professional by any means.
We saw some friends and they said if you can just have drinks leave because it's not that great however we chose to stay and try it out.we ordered the fried calamari which was ice cold however tasty and we certainly don't want our food spit on by sending it back, for what it's worth the filet mignon and Godzilla sushi roll was good I asked for a glass of wine and never got it until after my meal. Owners or host kept coming over was over multiple times to ask how everything was but I figured open table guys can relay this to them it's a shame a beautiful place such poor management very poor, can't blame the servers I blame the gentleman running the place it's their responsibility to make a tight ship run well. They had guys walking around the dining room picking up the chairs to see if they were in any need of repairs during dinner hours seriously?!?
Although the sushi was great, multiple issue in the kitchen made the experience frustrating. It took about 40 minutes for our appetizer to arrive due to a "mix up" in the kitchen, but there was an additional 35-40 minutes before the main course arrived. Also my meal was comped because the medium steak I ordered came to the table medium well-well done. I even overheard other table experiencing similar issues of long wait times and food "mix ups". The waiter was very apologetic and the managers try to do there best by sending the table complimentary drinks and sides, but I doubt I would return.
Service was really slow although we went at an off time for dinner, 5pm on a Sunday evening. We've done Mother's Day brunch here and had a great experience, but the 2 times we've returned for dinner, service was really bad. Unfortunate because the food is really good! Our waitress was super slow, but there was another waiter that waa more attentive to us than she was.
After being seated waited 15 min for first round of drinks and almost 45 min for app - waitress who said she was the manager claimed she didn't undrstand the hold up - terrible!!! Dinner was served after all most waiting another full hour - it's a shame the place is pretty and the food is good -worst service ever
For the price I believe there are better dining choices. I ordered sushi. When I asked for low sodium soy the waiter handed me 3 foils packets, really?? My wife ordered filet mignon. It was properly cooked but needed salt. Pure doesn't have salt and pepper shakers on the table. Is the chef that arrogant, no salt necessary.
I have gone to this place about 3 times now because the atmosphere is nice and the staff is usually very professional. Each time though I've had a problem with consistency of the food and this time was lack of availability. They were out of countless menu items this time. I can always understand running out of specials but 4 or 5 menu items seems excessive. Not sure i will go back.
I went to Pure for dinner with two other couples and found everything to be spot on. The ambiance was good; the service attentive without being intrusive and the food was excellent. Pure's menu was a mix of traditional and fusion dishes. I tried the sashimi and found it comparable to what I'd expect to find in a specialty Japanese restaurant. One of my friends ordered the scallops and found them cooked to perfection (i.e. just done, but not over done). My wife and the rest of my friends, who opted for various fusion dishes, had nothing but rave reviews, both in the terms of presentation and taste. Pure's physical layout can also be described as a fusion. You can select a table near the bar, like we did, for a lively and upbeat evening with friends. Or chose a table further back in the dining area for a quieter and/or more romantic setting.
I went there hoping it would be a new entry to our list of "go to" places in our area. The service was good and accommodating. Our server was quite attentive. The food was "ordinary". I had a rib-eye steak medium/rare cooked properly, but the meat was mediocre. The creamed spinach was soupy- 75% cream and 25% spinach. Didn't each much of that. I will go back and give it another try. I want them to be successful.
This was my second visit to Pure and both times the food has been excellent. Nice selection on the menu and not a bad dish yet. Both times we've shared several dishes and I've loved everything. This time however, we had a party of 6 and the waiter was just not up to the standard of the restaurant. Not sure if he was new, perhaps a college student home for the summer, but he definitely didn't have his act together. In the end it didn't matter because we were chatting but having to wait 20 minutes for a diet coke is really not acceptable. Will definitely go back though as the waitress on our first visit was outstanding but I would caution the management to be a little more selective on their wait staff as it can really turn an excellent restaurant into a bad experience. The restaurant is really pretty if you get away from the TV in the bar, definitely ask for a table on the upper level.
This is specific to our experience with the Mother's Day Brunch and may not be representative of the regular food and service.
-We were one of the first 3-5 tables seated, but it took 3 requests and 20+ minutes to get someone to take our drink orders.
-Multiple wait staff were milling around while people were being seated, but seated tables were being ignored (not their section?)
-I confirmed by phone that they would be able to accommodate gluten-free for the brunch, but nothing was labeled, station attendants had no idea how the food was prepared and multiple attempts to talk to a chef or one of the prep staff went unaddressed for the full 90+ minutes that we were there
-Asked about custom ordering something. Again, told that they'd find someone to talk to me, but never happened
-There was an omelet station, but they couldn't confirm that the bucket of egg slurry was just eggs (some places add pancake batter to make the omelets fluffier)
-Most of the premade sushi contained fake crab (often made out from wheat gluten) and there was no separation of prep areas, so I couldn't even use that as a fallback
-Ended up eating some sliced deli meats, cheese and some cut fruit. There just weren't any other obvious safe choices and nobody to help identify what was safe to eat
-My wife and son had their pick, but weren't impressed. There were huge clumps of unseparated pasta, undercooked and overcooked food in the same trays, pieces of packaging in the food, "something crunchy" in the salmon rolls (my son's exact words), uncooked rice in the fried rice, frozen cheesecake on the dessert stand (not "chilled", but rock hard in the middle an hour+ into the service).
I suspect that they don't have experience in this format and probably had a lot of temp workers prepping the service. A buffet brunch is very different from cook-to-order and it's obvious that they either didn't know or didn't care how to do it right. It was like a bad catering experience.
Went to Pure with my husband and another couple. Walked in and it looked very nice. Went downhill from there. We thought we were being punked. Restaurant was basically empty at first, but they asked us to wait at the bar for a table. We had a reservation. So we ordered drinks. They made us a sangria martini which was very good. Then they sat us about 20 minutes later in the still empty dining room.. We ordered appetizers, then were told the cheese platter we ordered is no longer available. Then we asked for another martini and were told they no longer have the ingredients for the drink. Moving onto dinner. We ordered our meal only to find out once again they were out of one of our choices. We got our appetizers then noticed all the other tables had a bread basket. We got ours later. I had ordered soup, but they forgot the spoon. I had to wait a while for that. The restaurant became very busy very quickly. Now about 20 more minutes go by and my husband noticed a bunch of dinners being set out on the susihi bar, just sitting there, about 7 minutes later those same plates are brought to OUR table. Unfortunately our steaks and sides are now ice cold. Not to mention my husbands medium rare steak is burnt. The waitress was very nice and very apologetic about everything. The manager finally came over with a million apologizes. She ordered us new steaks, told us to order desert and that there would be no bill for our table that evening. We felt the manager handled it nicely but way too many things wrong to go back anytime soon. The food we did get that was correct was good.
My husband and I went to Pure very much looking forward to having a great steak dinner but were pretty disappointed by what we ate. I had a NY Strip that was way over well done when I asked for medium. Also the sauce that accompanied was good but there was noy very much of it. My husband had the Rib Eye and it was not cooked as he requested either
Heard of this place from a few different sources and checked out the website. The restaurant seemed very interesting for a Saturday nite out based on both the photos and menu. We made a reservation for that evening. We were definitely impressed upon entering. The decor was contemporary and chic! Loved the look and vibe. There are entree selections for those interested in sushi as well as items for the meat lovers. This was perfect as I ordered a sushi dish and appetizer and my husband ordered a chop. I tasted his and found it to be great! My meal was great too! We had coffee and dessert as well which completed a wonderful evening. The bar area is visible from the restaurant and it looked like a great place to come for a nite out with friends. The tables there were filing as our dinner ended. Our money was well spent for a great evening!
The food was awesome. The ambiance was perfect and our waitress Crystal was so professional and friendly. She made our experience even better. This restaurant is a great find and you would never expect how great it is from the outside. Don't judge a book by its cover!! I am definitely coming back!!
Was told we would need to wait 15 minutes for a table. No problem, we waited at the bar. After a half hour and other people walking in and getting seat we inquired about our table. 15 minutes later they sat us. There were multiple empty tables in the restaurant, so I really do not know what the issue was. Service was poor with our entrees coming out before we had a chance to finish our appetizers. Also, almost got bowled over by a waiter not looking where he was going. Food was okay but not worth the price
Pure is an upscale eatery, with delectable food. Weekend dinners, especially near the bar area are not enjoyable. We were seated near the bar because the other dining area was full. At this cramped seating area we could hear the next couples cursing, and empty chatter. We waited 15 minutes before someone even came to our table. We received our food quickly, and my Salmon was awesome. Our water was never refilled. Our waitress seemed unattentive, and overburdened. And of course, we waited, and waited for the check. Weekend dinners here are too hectic, and unenjoyable, especially near the bar. I would return here but not on weekends. **TIP-If you have a reservation doublecheck that the restaurant checks you in. They had us as a "NO-SHOW".
Pure is a top-notch eatery that warms your pallet with delectable food, and your senses with that just right romantically subdued ambience. Only topped by superb dishes-(the halibut was outstanding), attentive service, and even reasonable pricing. I'll be returning to Pure whenever I'm in Parsippany. BRAVO PURE!!!
