Pure Spirits Ratings and Reviews
It was slammed with holiday goers this time but the restaurant worked valiantly to keep up. My guests truly enjoyed their lunches but my oysters Rockefeller, which I've had there before, we're disappointing. Will I go back? Absolutely. I expect to have that dish again, under more normal circumstances, and that it will be wonderful!
We had a lovely lunch at Pure Spirits-food was delicious and servers were friendly and efficient. Noise level was high however, it was during the Xmas Market time so understandable as many people were in the restaurant. We had a reservation and our table was waiting . Would definitely go to this restaurant again and many opptions available that were not seafood.
My husband and I have been to Pure Spirits several times and frequented the establishment yesterday for lunch. Everything was great. Owen, our server, was extremely pleasant and attentive. Between the two of us we had oysters rockefellow, tempura calamari, the Thai yellow curry mussels and fish and chips. Everything was excellent! Our eyes were a bit too big for our stomachs so we doggy bagged the leftovers to hold. We enjoy the setting, being in the Distillery District, both inside and when we have had the opportunity to sit on the patio during the summer. We will definitely be back!
Location and ambience was great. Food was good (mussels and fries). Unfortunately the service detracted from overall experience. We had a hard time getting our waitresses attention as she spent most of the evening with the same table full of men. Guess she was betting on a better tip from them.
Booked a reservation for a birthday dinner with my husband and daughter and it was during the Christmas Market. Great vibe and atmosphere with lots going on. Our server was friendly and efficient and overall I would say the service was excellent. Some of our food was very good and some was just fair. The raw oysters were great but they were out of Oysters Rockefeller. My husband order the tempura squid instead and was disappointed as some were rubbery and the batter was odd (pure white and did not look like regular tempura batter) The fries with parmesan were excellent to be shared. My daughter really enjoyed her Lobster Pappadelle and I had mussels in curry sauce. My sauce was OK and the mussels were fairly small. My husband ordered the fish dish and liked the borth which has a kick to it.
First time at this restaurant in the Distillery.
Had the 12 oysters for $35. They only had 3 different kinds left so options were limited but we still enjoyed the selection.
It was busy because of the Christmas market. Great restaurant and our waitress was wonderful. A bit loud but to be expected.
Will definitely return
Reliable, reasonably priced with excellent service and a decent range of offerings. But like nearly all Toronto restaurants a little too noisy. If the crowd's yakking anyway, who needs music? Only steps from the Soulpepper theatres, an advantage when the weather is awful.
Server was lovely but the hostess was terrible. I made a reservation but somehow my info wasn't in the system. When I came into the restaurant, she said she can't find my name and went silent. I showed my reservation info on my phone to her and she goes "oh not that i don't believe you, i just can't find you". And me and my husband literary stood there awkwardly for a few minutes just looking at each other. It wasn't big of deal but her attitude was very aggressive and she should have handled it better.
We were seated at the first booth near at the door...it was cold...be sure to ask for another...I will not sit there again in any other season than summer/late summer.
The menu has great food selections but the prices have definitely gone up significantly since we last visited...not sure why because nothing has changed on the interior that I could see.
One of the wait staff ran off with 1/4-1/3 of a nice bottle of wine that we ordered. We told our waiter and he did bring back a glass to compensate for clearing the bottle before it was finished.
We may give it another try...the food was good but pricey
Food was incredible! Fresh, hot and delicious- good servings and very flavourful.
Service was rushed and very low quality compared to atmosphere & food. Apps came at same time as the main course, no water refills or checking in to see if we wanted a 2nd drink.
4 friends went to Pure Spirits after a gin & vodka tasting at Spirit of York Distillery down the pathway from Pure Spirits on a Friday evening. We ordered the tempura calamari and an assortment of oysters to start and share as a table. Both were delicious. Our server told us about each type of oyster and what sauce would be best for pairing for each one. Our friends ordered the curry mussels with fries and the ceviche. They said the mussels were the best they've had. We ordered the traditional muscles and the lobster truffle pappardelle. The pasta was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. It was quite a good sized portion and the pasta was incredibly fresh. Creme sauce wasn't too heavy and it had so much flavour. The muscles dish was HUGE even to share between two people. The fries that accompanied the muscles were very tasty, well cooked and crispy. We also ordered a mojito and dark & stormy. Both cocktails were well made and took no time at all to be prepared. We were very impressed with the service at Pure Spirits and will definitely return.
We had an early reservation - 5:30 pm on a Tuesday. Perfect time as it was not crowded and service was excellent. We have been there on a Saturday evening for 7:00 pm reservation and it was crowded and very noisy. We would like to see more Gluten Free options on the menu, especially for appetizer and salad options. It was very limited.
First we sat inside but it was terribly noisy. Full room and music playing. We moved outside. Please turn the music off so guest can enjoy themselves and the company they're with.
I asked the waitress for some recommendation and thought she was right on. Valuable service!
All in all a good experience except for the noise. Not sure I would like to sit in during the winter. Will come back when the weather is good enough for outside eating.
My wife and I absolutely loved this restaurant last year when we went before Cirque du Soleil. As we were planning to go again, we decided we'd dine at Pure Spirits. I absolutely loved the Lobster Papardelle the first time and wanted it again. Unfortunately traffic that day was horrendous, so we called the restaurant directly 30 minutes before our reservation to inform them that we would be 30 minutes late. When we arrived, they had given away our table and we had to sit beside a table that was very sick and another couple that complained about everything. We were hopeful that the food would be just as good as the previous year. Unfortunately it wasn't. My wife liked her steak, but the sides were very bland and cold. My pasta was overseasoned with pepper. I just couldn't eat it. Our server was never to be found. When he did bring our beer to the table, the head was overflowing onto the floor and on my wife's dress and then onto the table. I'm hoping this was just an unexpected busy night. I'm very aware this kind of stuff happens, as I am a restaurant manager. I will be back once more to give it a try in hopes that it will turn out like our first visit.
We always come here when visiting Toronto. It's one of our favourite restaurants. We ordered mussels but the taste was off, our server was quick to offer an alternative and made sure we were going to be happy with our meal. Hats off to customer service.
We love the fresh oyster, that was our number one reason for going and you didn't let us down.
We always love going here. Food, service and ambience is always great. I tried the salmon this time which I loved but I didn't love the tomato salad it came with. It was ok, but just too much tomato. A smaller portion of that plus another veg wld be better.
We stopped in for an early dinner before the Cirque du Soleil. My husband had the special Steak Frites and I had a half dozen Malpaque oysters and the Vietnamese snapper. All the food was excellent as was my dark and stormy cocktail. Waiter was very attentive and helpful getting very quick service which left us time to get ice cream at SOMA before the show. Recommended!
Had never been to the Dist. Area. Should have sign in parking garage for restaurants. We has to keep asking how find the restaurant but when there it was great. Enjoyed but hubby would have liked to see more cooked Oyster items on the menu. Needed accessible and it was good.
Stephanie was our server and she is AMAZING! But one of our party's steaks was cold... not just room temperature, but totally cold. They brought another one and it was cold too! Her third one was fine. They took it off our bill which was the right thing to do.
