Pura Vida by Brandt Evans serves up contemporary dishes in a New American cafe. The chef, Brandt Evans, prepares unique dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. Guests can stop in for breakfast or have delicious offerings dropped off or catered for that early morning meeting. Midday visitors can enjoy African peanut stew paired with a quinoa salad, or share a plate of chickpea jar or BBQ duck confit fries.
Pura Vida serves a variety of vegetarian dishes, such as vegan nachos and burritos or the veggie big mac. Dinner or Urban Picnic options include grilled tandoori chicken, the Pura Vida burger and sides like the sea salt and rosemary fries. Guests with heartier appetites will enjoy the Ohio double bone pork chop or the smoked Ohio beef ribs. Don't forget to leave room for Smore hand pie, gluten-free berry crisp or a vegan chocolate shake to finish the meal.
We were really excited for our date to Pura Vida because they're known for their vegan menu. Our appetizer was good, and the Chinese rice was decent, but the chicken fried cauliflower was HORRIBLE. It was freezing on the inside, the breading and gravy were awful, and the biscuit was very dry. Not good at all. Our server was great, though, and bought a round of drinks once we told her. I'd say they get high marks for service, but we won't be back.
My wife and I and another couple were in Cleveland for a Cavaliers game. We chose Pura Vida due to the good reviews, and the great menu with many vegetarian and meat options. The place is modern and sleek, and the food was simply outstanding. Our server, Lilly, was a huge help and handled our needs beautifully. We made an excellent choice!!
The food was amazing! Everything we tried was delicious...African peanut stew, crispy mushrooms, hummos jar, etc. Service was fantastic...very helpful and efficient.
We had the peanut stew & the squash bisque for the appetizer which was really good. We also had the special which was the sea bass and it was excellent and done to perfection. We will definately come here again.
Other than the fancy shredded butter, the place was a disappointment. The ambiance had neon lights that changed colors way too often and the food was okay at best, despite the price tag put on it.
Beautiful, classy, contemporary decor.
Our server Kelly was great and quite friendly.
Food was good, but too salty.
I have dined at Pura Vida several times and the food has always been great. Definitely recommend it for a dining option downtown.
The food is great! I appreciate the diverse vegetarian options! The service is top notch! Wonderful place for a special occasion, but I've also been there for lunch. It's definitely more of a fancy dinner place I'd say.
Unfortunately can't get enough patrons to make this place work
Absolutely amazing food w/creative tasty vegan options. When we finished our leftovers the next day, we talked about going back to order the exact same dishes again!
Incredible dinner selection - everything we ordered was amazing! Loved the creativity in all the dishes -- even the bread and butter appetizer was incredible. Vegan and gluten-free friendly. Will most definitely be back! :)
Food was excellent, prices reasonable and portions generous.
We had a party of 12 at Pura Vida on a Wednesday for our traditional family dinner gathering. This was our first year at Pura Vida, but not my first visit. My husband, mom and dad have all been here before and love it. The other 8 were first timers and even though a few of them are plain janes, we all really enjoyed the food. We all tried each others food, I had the chicken mac and cheese and it was soooo cheesy and tasty. My husband had the bison and he really enjoyed it. Other items were the chicken and waffle sandwich, pork chop, salmon, burger and soups/salads. It was delicious and fresh! Our servers, Kellie and Lilly were fantastic and made sure our night was great. They are never really busy at Pura Vida and I just cant understand why when the food is so amazing! We love going there and now have a new spot for our holiday dinner!
First off, I want to say that the service was beyond excellent. Our server was kind, courteous and very attentive. The only thing she lacked was asking why we did not eat most of our meals. This was a party of 6. Two had the chicken mac and cheese and it was so greasy that after 2 bites that was it. Two had the hamburger and that was very greasy as well. Both ate only half. One had the bread and butter plate -- presentation was awesome, but a large pile of shredded butter and only 3 crostinis. Asked for more and was given 2 more. Very disappointed.
I've had several business lunches at Pura Vida. Food is always very good and the atmosphere is perfect for entertaining clients, etc.
We had a delicious meal! Our waiter was excellent !! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice too !! Great location -close to Public Square!! Great for vegetarians too!!
Amazing food, nice diversity.
I located the restaurant downtown Cleveland across from my hotel after I made my reservations through open table. After viewing the menu I carefully made my selection for the chicken waffle sandwich and a truffle dessert and all of it was beautifully prepared and delicious.
I found this restaurant on the web and decided to take my husband there for his 50th. Our family is made up of vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians and meat lovers alike. Everyone loved everything. I had the best tofu I've ever had in my life!!
Excellent food, lighting and comfortable seats. And as a burgeoning vegetarian - the food selection was great!
A friend and I had dinner here before a theater event. It was Halloween evening, so Pura Vida was closing early and called to let me know that they'd be offering the lunch menu only. That's certainly not a problem, as they have a creative and delicious menu for lunch. Lunch as a good array of starters, sandwiches and full plates. We stuck with sandwiches, a "pulled spaghetti squash" and a vegetarian "big mac" complete with presentation in a box! Food was fresh and delicious. Service was attentive but not overbearing. We'll definitely go again.
Faux Big Mac was delicious - better than Mc D's and twice as messy. Awesome even if you're a carnivore. My girlfriend loved it. I chowed on the pork chop with Brussels sprouts. Also had the sweet potato hash. All terrific. And the vanilla old fashioned made a perfect dessert.
Crispy mushroom appetizer fabulous.
All the food was delicious with great presentation. We've never had a mediocre or bad meal.
We enjoyed our Friday night at Pura Vida. The restaurant was very quiet, but it didn't stop us from having an amazing dinner! Can't wait to go back!
Chef Evans sources outstanding local/regional ingredients, and then executes them to perfection. the crispy mushrooms are unlike any I have ever had. One of the two best hamburgers in the entire world (and I've had thousands). Good beet salad. Chicken & waffle sandwich was great too. I recommend this place to anyone.
Pura Vida is extremely close to everything in downtown Cleveland, easy to get to. Walking in, the lighting was off putting and made us question our choice. We braved it and we were extremely pleased with the restaurant. Appetizers were yummy and my husband's squash soup was delicious. Several of us ordered the salmon. Best choice yet!
We have four people in our party -- and four very different entries -- Vegan Gnocchi, Bison RIbeye, Salmon and the Scallop special. Each entrée was outstanding. The flavors were fantastic -- creative without pretention. The food was wonderful.
Dined here on a busy Friday night with my family of 5. Everything was amazing and it was a truly wonderful experience! Pura Vida has a menu that caters to everyone: carnivores, vegetarians, and even vegans. The menu was unique and everything on it sounded so delicious I wanted to try it all. We started with cocktails. They were great! My grandma and mom both loved the Sangria. My sister had the "Smoke on the water" which was a pumpkin flavored cocktail. It is was light and refreshing and the torched cinnamon stick was a nice touch. My family started with the bread and butter with the bacon jam, African peanut stew and chic pea jar. Everything was so flavorful. The bread and butter is so fun, and the bacon jam was to die for! My grandma who is celiac was even able to indulge on the appetizers, as the kitchen carefully prepared our chic pea jar and peanut stew to be gluten free. The entrees were so flavorful, so delicious, and the portion sizes were HUGE. My family recommends the Pork Chop, chicken mac and cheese, and salmon. Vegetarian? Absolutely get the Veggie Big Mac. Hands down THE BEST black bean burger I've ever had in my life. Get it even if you aren't vegetarian, it's that good! Again the kitchen was careful and accommodating to my grandmas allergies and dietary needs. For dessert, don't skip the s'mores pie. They even had gluten free gelatos for grandma!
The food wasn't our only highlight of the evening. The entire staff was friendly and attentive. The bartenders and servers were all great, and the manger stopped by to ask how everything was and joked and made connections with us. I felt like I had dined there a million times and everyone knew me and was my friend!
Overall a great experience, and everyone in my family was impressed. I can't wait to return. I heard they change their menu seasonally to utilize local ingredients and farmers. I will most definitely be back!
We had a reservation before the Garth Brooks concert on Friday and we really enjoyed everything! The food was fresh and the service was knowledgeable and made sure to get us to our concert on time! Looking forward to another trip to Pura Vida!
My husband and I had dinner at Pura Vida on October 8, 2015. It was the best meal either of us has had. With the very first bite we were in love with our meal. The staff was friendly and professional. The restaurant was nice and clean. This was truly an unforgettable meal and we will be back😁
I loved the food here. Best pork chop in town. Parking is difficult as there is no valet and it's near many hot spots downtown. I also really liked the eclectic decor.
Mac n cheese was yummy n mushroom appetizer was the best. Server was very friendly
They have a great mix of vegetarian and non vegetarian entrees, all looked good. Mom had a pork chop that she loved, I have something called pull spaghetti squash and it was wonderful. The portions were generous and the spices were rolling! The cost was not bad. Very good server.
We had a party of eight, everyone really enjoyed their dinner. The appetizers wer fabulous. Try the butternut squash fondue.
We love going to Pura Vida....the food and service are consistent and friendly. They are not as busy as 4th Street but it is their loss! The food is really creative and the presentation is always like a piece of art! We were excited to see the fall menu and although some of my favorites are off it, I got to try some really great new items like the butternut squash bisque (out of this world) and I also had the Cod which was fresh and tasty.
We had a group of 6 for dinner and I have been to Pura Vida many times and it never disappoints. We were told it was the last weekend for the summer menu so we had to order some of our favorites before they were gone. We enjoyed the pork chop, salmon, pork special, Chinese black rice and shared several appetizers and desserts. The quality and portions of the food are always exceptional and the service is kind and pleasant. This is my favorite restaurant in Cleveland and I am surprised on how they are not sold out on weekends! If you have not tried, I highly suggest you give it a try!
The food is delicious and the vegan options are great. Our server was friendly knowledgeable and funny. The drinks were good except for the Bloody Mary which was awful. The issue here is that by 9.30 the place is essentially empty. There is not a good buzz here. It is very noisy but a little better in the carpeted area. Seating in the main area is uncomfortable.
We came here on a whim for dinner. Our server was very nice. The food was good, but not the best. The spoon bread was divine. The atmosphere, though spacious felt cold and impersonable. There were a couple of bachelorette parties the night we dined, and the restaurant is well suited for that kind of event. It appeared to be close to the night life of Cleveland.
Attentive service & great food!
We attended a vegan dinner event that was served family style. We aren't vegetarian, but the menu sounded good and it was.
