Good restaurant in Centro Historico with wide range of small plates and good wine selection. Caters a bit to locals but if you know any restaurant Spanish they go out of their way to help. Everything we had was excellent and it is a place that you can get good oysters

Super recomendado!!!!

Puntarena is in a real cool location off the Zocalo. We had a 2:30 pm lunch here after wandering around downtown Mexico City on a recent Sunday. The atmosphere is lively. The living wall lovely and a beautiful backdrop. The Pasta Fresca was fresh and piquant. The palm salad and seafood risotto were very satisfying. So much fun checking out the little shops in this unique setting afterwards.

It doesn't help Puntarena to be next to Azul, one of the hotter restaurants in Mexico City. There was nobody at the reception desk when we arrived. We waited for a bit, then finally walked into the back room of the restaurant to find somebody who would greet us and seat us. Alas, we returned to our hotel room to find that the restaurant had listed us as no-shows. Open Table fixed that, fortunately. But this is an indication of how disorganized the front of the house was.
Okay, now the good part. The room itself is fascinating, with the roof open to the sky and a wonderful vertical greenspace. The food was excellent--my wife had a lovely piece of fish with capers, and I had a generous serving of lobster and chorizo. We just wish that the front of the house could represent the restaurant as well as the kitchen did.
